Title: Re: Rwandan Silverbacks Pics Post by Bondservant on Nov 19th, 2005, 9:47am They live in the Virunga Volcano range, which is on the border of Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and Rwanda. The movie "Gorillas in the Mist" a few years ago made them famous. There are only about 700 of them. We saw a family of about 20. They live to be 45 years old about. They are fine with people, as long as you act in a non-threatening way. You have to be in shape to go there. We hiked a little over an hour from the drop off point, and climbed 2500 feet to an altitude of 9600 feet. Really kicked my butt (I just turned 50 and am not in the shape I once was). Worth the effort though. |
