Title: The Movie "Pi"

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/078401213X.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

This movie has been talked about for some time now on the board and I had never seen it until I obtained a copy recently, and have since viewed it 6 times (including yesterday with my sis in law).

This was director Darren Aronofsky's first film out of Harvard, and is very impressive.

The main character Max is a mathmatical genius trying to find a pattern in the stock market. At the same time he suffers with excruciating headaches that seem eerily similar to clusters, though he has a bloody nose, and explains how his headaches began. But certain characteristics and his reactions are so dead on, I saw alot of myself in this movie that it freaks me out upon each viewing. He does a couple of extreme things I have only thought of but so far have not over that edge.
There is one scene where he lists all of the things he has tried but have failed. I recognized so many on the list I had done myself.

This movie is very intense, and the plot brilliant! My sis in law said it is one of those movies that grio you enough that you are exhausted by the end of it.
For a CH sufferer, this movie may make you 'feel' the attacks Max goes through as he spirals into madness, but I think this movie deserves a viewing at least once by any clusterhead. I cannot wait to see his other film "Reqiuem For A Dream" which I hear good things about as well.

I would also love to know what inspired Darren Aronofsky to do such a story as "Pi".

Two thumbs up!
Carl D

I saw it and you are right, every Clusterhead should see it.  Great flick. Without doubt, someone  making that movie is a clusterhead.
If anyone hasn't seen it yet, go rent it!

It's a great movie and on the commentary track, the main actor explains he was inspired by a friend of his that got 'migraines' at the same time every day...

From the web site:

Quote:
A gifted young actress who consulted with us on the film's depiction of migraine, had a long period during which she would be awakened every morning at exactly 4:07 to a pain like "a hot drill entering her right temple." The pain increased from there. For the eternity of the next hour or two, she would hide in the darkest place she could find, often a closet. Sometimes she would bang her head against the wall, trying to dislodge the pain. All light, sounds, smells and human contact became unbearable.

When the episodes passed, she often experienced a sense of euphoria, a high which might last all day. Every night, she was afraid to go back to sleep. The next morning the pain would wake her again.
Sound like meegraine or cluster to you?

I used to get this. A little hard to explain to someone else. Many days it is what carried me through and allowed me to work after days of no sleep. Kinda like your body saying (sorry, but heres a treat for ya). Whats weird is that I miss it.......

Hey Redd - check your local Best Buy. They should have it for around ten bucks and if not, it is available on amazon.com. Definitely a keeper!

If he was inspired by a friend with 'migraines' methinks his friend was misdiagnosed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bob, thanks for the links. I hadn't realized the music on your site came from "Pi" since I had never seen it *Pi, and I recently discovered an old friends new band called CELLDWELLER and one of his songs has a sample of dialogue from Pi that I recognized right away.

I just read your original post Kevin. The power drill scene had me screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!' Though the thought has crushed my mind a time or two. The other one that really messed me up was the ergot auto-injector scene.... that thought too had crept into my head a few times. Don't want to say too much though... can't give anything away to anyone who hasn't seen this movie yet.

Next viewing will be with commentary track on. Why didn't I thunk of that?

Peace,
Carl

*To clarify I have seen Boobs page, but hadn't yet seen Pi. I am an idiot sometimes, lol.

It's been a long time but it was on cable here. Might have been IFC or perhaps Sundance. Pretty good thing for clusterheads. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/tv_horror.gif

Great movie. The DVD also has a music video that's pretty amazing. Last cycle, watching either the music video or the movie, would cause me to hurt. I don't know why... Maybe because it's so stark, or something.
[smiley=huh.gif]

Anyway, definitely a keeper.

There was a short parody of "PI" and "American Pie" called ...what else "American PI". Another must see. The lead was trying to fiqure a mathematical equation to loosing his virginity. ;;D

I'm at work...so I can't reference it, but I think it was somewhere on

I saw it today and wow, what a great movie.
The use of black a white was perfect. It is obvious that Darren the director/writer is very intelligent. It is hard to believe he doesn't have or knows someone close with CH.

Did you notice that the nose bleeds stopped towards the end when he stopped taking his meds?

I finally rented the movie. Sure looks like a Clusterhead to me. Obviously, he wasn't diagnosed and all those drugs made the guy, well, you know....

Those meds/drugs he named off sure sounded familiar from the old days. Thank God for Trex.  [smiley=laugh.gif]
