Title: tell what you think I should think Post by JenniferD on Nov 12th, 2005, 3:16pm I've been at home for a week and a half d/t being on the topamax and pretty much a moron and not driving and can't think hard enogh to do my job. So I talked to my boss and i told her I was having a really hard time and i needed some time off temporarily (3weeks while on the highest dosage) so we agreed someone would be hired to fill in "while i'm out." so I went to my job today to pick up my check from two weeks ago out of my mailbox and my check wasn't there- cuz there was no mailbox there. its been removed. so i went to my office and all of my pictures and stuff have been removed from my desk and the walls and stuck in a box in the corner. and i feel like i have been kicked in the gut. |

Title: Re: tell what you think I should think Post by Redd715 on Nov 12th, 2005, 3:37pm Depending on what yor state laws are, they are perfectly well within the law to kick you in the gut that way. It happened to me when I was off work due to this shit 1.5 years ago. I was lucky though, when I got Medical clearance to go back to work they did hire me back, but I lost all the vacation and seniority I had there. I was told in the meeting last Tuesday that they "didn't have to" hire me back. I researched it and sure nuff they were right. I was under the impression the Big Men couldn't fire anyone due to illness or injury. Well at least in my state they can. They can fire for any reason or no reason. Wisconsin is a work at will state, for both partys. Sorry, but you may want to look into your state laws and possible if you qualify for FLMA leave. |

Title: Re: tell what you think I should think Post by Jasmyn on Nov 12th, 2005, 4:07pm I think it SUCKS! People should still have feelings, compassion and some extend of understanding. Where has life gone to? Why are humans without humanity? Why does machines' lives count more? If it was a mechanical/electrical problem they would spent the outtage time and money to get it fixed! Why are people not valued anymore in life unless a catastrophy strike a nation (and then sometimes not even)?! >:( |

Title: Re: tell what you think I should think Post by JenniferD on Nov 12th, 2005, 4:17pm my last day there, a week ago weds, she left work early b/c she had a hair appt- she didn't even say bye or anything, not even a 'hope you feel better'. just left. Thing is: this is from a woman who up until recently has said how good a secretary i've been, how much i've brought to the office, efficient, so many good changes, both office and morale wise, etc. just got a raise a couple months ago. And she KNEW this was only a temporary thing....and I find out like THIS????? I mean, maybe i'm just reading it wrong, but am I?????? all my stuff removed? my mailbox removed? and not even a phone call to tell me anything? shit. i've been getting my ass kicked with this ch cycle for 10 weeks been going to work thru the whole damn thing up until this last couple weeks and had planned on going back thru the last few weeks of the cycle jsut couldn't hack it on the 100mgs of stupidty. talk about getting kicked wehn you're down. |

Title: Re: tell what you think I should think Post by kimmeesue on Nov 12th, 2005, 4:35pm Kansas is also an "at will" state . I found out when I was hired to fill in for someone who was getting married and wanted to take an extended honeymoon leave. Except nobody told me it was temp. until the day I walked in and she was at my "my" desk and handed me my last check. The boss didn't even have the guts to be there. I was a single mom and it was the pits. There 'otta be a law. Sorry you are having so much dumped on you at once. Kim |

Title: Re: tell what you think I should think Post by Jasmyn on Nov 12th, 2005, 4:40pm Still SUCKS! You hang in there Jen! Smaller companies seem to be more people orientated, maybe it is time for a move. Sorry I'm just pissed off by reading something like this happening to good people by uneducated, corporate, power hungry scumbaggs! >:( Best to ask your doc for something other than Dopeymax. No one can live clueless. :( |

Title: Re: tell what you think I should think Post by JenniferD on Nov 12th, 2005, 4:58pm so the question is: do I call her and ask her what gives and see if she is firing me or just take the slap in the face as the opportunity to leave with some dignity intact, pick up my stuff and quit? I've never been fired from any job and I'd rather do that than be fired by a two faced woman like her. like I said....maybe I'm reading it wrong and ive been wrong on many many things but this is kinda hard to read wrong, you know? and jas, this isnt big corporate america, this is a small office who supposedly cares about their employees. the owner said when i talked to him that he was sorry i had to go thru this and "we will work with you to help you get thru this, just let us know what you need'. my boss is the manager, she pretty much runs the place-(the owner doesn't have much to do with day to day stuff, like hiring/firing the few employees there are.) |

Title: Re: tell what you think I should think Post by BarbaraD on Nov 12th, 2005, 5:09pm Call and ask what gives with the company and you. Tell 'em you're ready to return to work. That should get an answer one way or another. If you're fired, put in for unemployment. That will cost them.... Try taking the topomax at night. That's what I do and I do have short term memory loss, but the dopey feeling isn't as bad. I've never been bothered with that. (I'm dopey anyhow - maybe I just never noticed). Then write notes to yourself so you don't forget what you're doing - you WILL forget stuff. But topomax has been a lifesaver for me. It's the ONLY thing that's ever worked on the headaches. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: tell what you think I should think Post by jon019 on Nov 12th, 2005, 5:45pm Hi Jennifer, I am so pissed for you that I am thinking evil thoughts and wishing it was a big corporation so I could stop buying their crap. Absolutely DO NOT QUIT, that's what the witch wants. Make them fire you or lay you off or whatever the lame ass bs word she come's up with for an unjustified shafting. And oh, by the way, since you have a good evaluation and a recent raise, your value to the company has been obvious and you will be expecting a severence package, continuation of health benefits until you are back on your feet, AND a good reference. You don't ASK this, you tell them you EXPECT this. Anything else and you will be forced to "take other measures" since they are discriminating against you for health reasons. It doesn't have to be a threat, be calm about it, but stated flat out OR implied, it is your only chance for fairness. Living with this crap is bad enough and I'm sure many here have the added burden of worrying about the same thing happening to them. (The thought never leaves my mind). Don't let them get away with it. Thinking of you, hoping for the best, and waiting to hear how it turns out, Jon |

Um...it seems better to me to call up and ask straight out, but politely, what is going on. As far as you know for sure, and correct me if I'm wrong, you really aren't certain that she is 2 faced, or if you are "fired" or if they have rearranged things for the temp out of convenience. Don't jump to conclusions, which could burn any bridge you have, and for no good reasons. It is easy enough to figure out what is going on, either call, or stop in. And then you will know, and can either rest assured that you have a job to go back to, or you can then get pissed at the injustice (another effect of the beast). But don't get too pissed until you know for sure. It's hard, but, it might be best to reserve judgement until you know all the facts. My 2 cents. Casey |
