Title: Pissed
Post by Sandy_C on Nov 8th, 2005, 1:39pm
And that's what I am.

Boss man and I have worked together for 17 years and have two corporations - parent company, and design/sales owned by parent company.  I'm in charge of the design/sales end.  This year has been a banner year - I, personally, racked up the highest gross profit that the design/sales end ever had since it's inception, because of MY customers - ones I went out and got, and ones I did all the work for.  I worked my ass off for these people this year.

Naturally, we are now looking toward the end of the year at how much the corporation will have to pay Uncle Sam, and Boss Man, in his vast wisdom tells me that he is going to take the profit from my end of the business and use it to pay the bills due from his end of the business, so that my end of the business shows very little profit for tax purposes.  I understand this.

When I mention  the vast majority of the profit gained this year is due to my diligence to my customers so why not give a little bit of that profit to me, as a bonus for a good job done.  He looked at me as though I had lost my mind.   His words were, well, that could be considered, but his eyes and his demeanor said "not a chance in Hell".

Mind you, I do make a very decent salary,  but I have no benefits  - no health care,  little paid vacation (2 weeks after 17 years), no sick leave - bupkis.  But this was an unusual year for my customers, and I worked 60 hr weeks - nights, weekends to make it happen.  I think I deserve a little something extra this year.

I'm so pissed I could quit right now, but I can't.  My job is so unique and fits such a small niche in the job market, plus I'm 59 years old, there is nowhere to go.

I can't wait for retirement.  Then I can buy my double-wide and park it in a lot somewhere because that's about all I'll be able to afford.

Sorry for venting.

>:(

Sandy, you Boss is a WHUSS for not suggesting out of his own to give you a bonus for a job well done! >:(

Thanks Jas.  It's not as though I'm asking for something for nothing.  I earned it, all by myself.

My boss is not a Wuss, he is the true definition of "Male Chauvinst Pig".  He will be 70 in December, and married his wife right out of high school.  HIS wife, has never had to work outside the home one day in her life, because HE says so and HE thinks that's the way it SHOULD be.

He looks down on my husband because I DO work outside our home and have always done so.  He thinks my husband is not a good provider because I work outside my home.  I work because I find it fulfilling.  I took 1-1/2 years off work when having my children, thinking it would be wonderful to be a stay at home mom.  It was wonderful for awhile, until I talked baby talk to everyone and my only topic of conversation was what happened on the soaps that day.  It wasn't for me.  Working keeps me abreast of the world as it is today.  My working has taught both of my daughters that they can do whatever they damned well please, and that they don't have to depend on their MAN to make them whole.  My working helped pay for their college educations.  I take pride in my work and it is important to ME, and BossMan just doesn't see that.  He is a dinosaur.  How do you combat a dinosaur?

I'm assuming that you can't leave and take your good customer relationships with you?--even working independently?  If that's not an option, the next thing would be to find ways of demonstrating to your boss what someone like yourself is worth in other companies, and what the loss of you would do to his "parent" company. Quit, and take your customers with you.  If you put in that kind of effort and have that kind of rapport with them, leave his ungratefull ass hanging in the wind and do it for yourself alone, that way you get to keep ALL of the profit, not just some of it.  Remember that is what America is founded on, hard work and taking risks is rewarded.  Good luck.

Sandy,

Don't give in that easy. I am a also a business owner. Granted, a little younger and a little more progressive. He is trying to play games, it sounds to keep corporate profits low on your division so as not to pay higher percentage taxes on the profit gained by that subsidiary. It's sound reasoning.

However, and this is where I say you should not fold. There is more than one way to lower profits. One is to pay it out in salaries and bonuses. Accomplishes the same thing. I don't care how much of an old codger he might be, a good sound argument for more money is really supposed to only be about the money. You made the money for him, you worked hard, you can demonstrate your results -- unless he's a complete idiot he will listen and respond. UNLESS YOU JUST LET HIM ROLL OVER YOU and walk away like someone who passed gas and doesn't want to admit it. There is nothing wrong with asking for more money. You go and talk to him. Bring your numbers. Show him. Make a case for a bonus. Be the determiner of your own fate.

Go get it!

Scott

Better yet...Send Rex a pic of your boss and have him photoshop him into that picture in the Caption Contest thread....THEN send it to his wife...or at least show it to him and tell him you are going to if you don't get that well deserved bonus.

Numbers don't lie...show him your numbers, demand the bonus and the RESPECT you deserve for a job well done.  You EARNED IT!!

Damn right!  Thanks Scott.  He's not going to walk over me this time.  I'm too old and too tired to take this crap any longer.  I earned what I earned, and GD it, I want some of it.

Brad has simialr griefs with his shop he is part owner of.......he works his friggin ass off there and repairs and fixed the huge big presses and even makes the parts when needed to save the shop LOTS of money and he has the know how to do all that so they don't have to hire someone by the hour when a problem arises. He i supposed to be sure the guys do there jobs and figure out the math to run things correctly but he is doin there jobs half the time cuz they keep screwin shit up costin the shop loads of money. They break presses cuz they don't do things rite and aren't careful which sets them behind. So Brad hussles ass to get stuff fixed and runs the stuff himself. Some jobs they don't setup rite and send and get returned which is bad for business too. One guy keeps walking around telling Brad the world is comeing to an end cuz he got into some strange religion stuff and he can't run anything rite or set anything up rite so he says he will go home and pray. Brad wants to choke that guy. Other guy is off 6 weeks cuz of knee surgery and milking it out for everything he can......Brad was off 4 days for his and is now runnin that guys press. Then he found out the guy signed up for vacation on the 7th week Brad was plannin to take off so he got screw'd. Brad has 3 weeks of vacation he will loose and no pay for it if he doesn't take off by Janurary but he is stuck doin everyone elses work. He's about ready to snap !!!! The shop picked up a little too 'thank goodness' so Brad is working twice as hard doin everyone elses jobs. Others should be able to run this press and handle it but.....they don't remember how or screw it up. If ya want the job done rite sometimes ya gotta do it yerself esp if it means KEEPING clients which is what he is doing. But it's not fair.....the other boss he is partner's with don't care cuz he wants to retire early and mow golfcourses. But health insurence keeps him in business for now. Brad wants to blow and tell them all OFF cuz of all his dedication makeing that place tick NOT appreciated. But he also wants to remain employee'd. The other boss wants to sell out but we don't want to borrow a million bucks at this age.....so he doesn't want to push the issue and piss the other guy off to where he says fuck it and walks out. Esp if he just decided to piece the place out and not bother selling the business and walk away. We all know who'd keep the cash Pam

Hope it works out for ya.........

Greedy people collect bad karma. No need to "do" anything...

Good people collect good karma, so you'll get your rewards. One way or another.

That would be good for a start.

And call his wife, tell her that you and her husband have been having an affair for the last 15 years. Tell her that you are tired of being the "other woman". Tell her to move out because you are moving in. (better tell your husband about this little payback gag before you do it)

P.S. You don't look 59.  ;)

PS - Negotiations are going on, so, hopefully, all is not lost yet!  By the way, yesterday afternoon, I left early, and he was left in the office all alone - poor baby.  I "had a headache".  (NOT)   ;;D

PPSS - but, if you note the time of this post - I'm still in the office, but heading home right now.   :-/
