Title: Adenoids Post by SonyaD on Nov 1st, 2005, 9:49am I'm New to the site. My brother has very bad Cluster Headaches and his wife had found this site and Thank God for that. This site has helped him so much. Thanks to All!! My question: Has anyone heard of having their adenoids removed to relieve (Removed) Cluster Headaches? Talking with my Dads friend yesterday, he said he had Cluster Headaches for many years and said he went to an Ears, Nose, Throat Specialist and they had seen the problem to be his adenoids, so he had his Adenoids removed and he has never had a Cluster Headaches ever since. Could this be the answer? Is this possible that these adenoids in our body could be the cause of this pain that all of you and my brother are feeling? Please if anyone has heard of this can you please email me back some feedback? Thanks A Bunch!!!! |

Title: Re: Adenoids Post by Melissa on Nov 1st, 2005, 1:26pm Actually, an ear, nose and throat doc diagnosed me with CH's. I had a huge cyst in my sinuses at the time, but after explaining what I was going through, and how it's happened before, he was able to separate the 2 and give me a correct diagnosis. He gave me pred and amnitryptiline, but it didn't work. I was happy anyway that I had a name to my pain. |

Title: Re: Adenoids Post by Charlie on Nov 1st, 2005, 8:19pm I still have mine and my CH has been gone since 1991. On that note, I am very skeptical about diagnoses from ear, nose and throat MDs. Around here, they do far too much surgery. Too much money is being made from unnecessary procedures. An ear specialist told me I had a 25% deviation in my left septum and that they could "fix" that. Gee whiz. It's only been that way since 1946. I ruined his day when I said no. Charlie http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/doc14.gif |

Title: Re: Adenoids Post by Lizzie2 on Nov 3rd, 2005, 2:47am Still have both tonsils and adenoids. But I did have 3 sinus surgeries - one when I was 16 to remove a tumor and one this year to correct the scarred tissue and damage. And then one after that...emergency surgery for bleeding. These last two sent my clusters and daily migraine into a horrible state...and I couldn't use my O2 because of the drying effects after having the sinus surgery...even with a bubbler. I know sometimes sinus surgery is necessary, and actually this one was necessary....but holy hell, it made things a lot worse for my head. I think I'm finally back to status quo. Sonya - can you describe your brother's symptoms and what sorts of trreatments he's tried? Has he used O2? Would love to know more! Welcome to our site, as well! Carrie :) |

Hello Carrie, I'm the wife Sonya mentioned. So you may have seen my postings about my husband on here before. My husband has had these headaches since as far back as he can remember. He was "officially" diagnosed when he was about 17. It's definitely clusters. Not only has he seen the top doctors (Dr. Raskin in SF being one of them) but he has all the exact things all of the sufferers describe. He's episodic - although at times it feels like they're chronic and they'll never go away! :-/ My husband gets the pain on the right side of his face and neck. He gets the tearing, the nasal drip, all of it. He can't sit still when he gets hit. He's either rolling around on the floor, pulling on his head (sometimes so hard I think he may break his own neck one of these days), or walking back and forth as if he could out run the pain. My sister in law, Sonya (who I will take the chance to say is the best! Love you Sonya!) like she said, talked to her father who had a good friend of his who was diagnosed with Cluster Headaches (don't know what his symptoms are). He went to see the ear nose and throat specialist who had his adenoids removed. Said he hasn't had a cluster since. Althought it's possible that he was misdiagnosed with Clusters in the first place (afterall usually those with clusters are misdiagnosed with every illness under the sun until they get it right, so who's to say they can't misdianose someone with clusters right?) we thought we'd bring it up here to see if anyone here had ever heard of removing them as being away to rid themselves of the beast. Doesn't sound like it though. Oh well! The truth is out there somewhere, we'll find it! All we have is hope and faith! :) |
