Title: Ok Got A Question! Post by ghost62 on Oct 31st, 2005, 4:09am I know this should probably go into another area but :P Why is it that most people(not all) seem to just not get it? Everyone always want to tell you how much more there broken finger hurts or stubbed toe hurts, and all I get is headaches. Do you think it would stand up in court next time some freakn idiot spouts up if I throttle him? I am getting sooooooooooooooooo da^^ed tired of hearing how much worse it is to have a paper cut! I got close yesterday to stuffing one arsehole under my car. He bumped his head at a party sliding down the stairs in a laundry basket. He told me that cause I had to go outside for a while to battle the beast and he came out and saw me trying to crush my own scull by squeezing it, and later when i told him what was going on he told me that and said there is no way i was hurting worse than he was. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( I am tired of idiots who cant even begin to understand try to minimize what we are going through. Sorry had to release some frustration. |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by LeLimey on Oct 31st, 2005, 4:19am I think each and every one of us can relate to that Goatie and yes it is frustrating but on the other hand... how can someone understand it? I know my friends do their best to sympathise but they haven't got a clue and frankly I'm bloody glad about that. Anyone like the muppet you're talking about who is merely an acquaintance can go fish, their opinion isn't important to me. If they are that self centred then good luck to them.. they'll need it! In fairness though and I know I've said this before, if the worst pain you've ever had is a paper cut then that is all you CAN understand, he could have shown more sympathy or respect but understanding?? You'll have to come here for that mate [smiley=hug.gif] |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by BarbaraD on Oct 31st, 2005, 4:27am People who do not suffer from CH cannot understand the pain we endure. Before CH hit me, I would be in bed with a broken fingernail - today, I don't know of much of anything that will put me under except a CH. Everyone has their own pain thresholds and ours has just risen to a high level. Others can't understand that. Instead of getting mad at people, just give them a quarter and tell them to call someone who gives a damn! Hugs BD |

I have to admit, prior to this nightmare getting it's hooks into me, I probably would have been one of the idiots that thought someone was over dramatizing a headache. Being such a rare disorder with the tag name headache makes it easy for the average person to be completely unaware of how sever the condition is, the unbearable/repetitive pain associated with it or the effect it can have on one's ability to function. They immediately relate it to a bad headache they get every now and then. They really couldn't understand without going through one. Its not their fault, its something we have to find ways to deal with. Take care of yourself Tom |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by marty on Oct 31st, 2005, 5:56am ghost62 Maybe there is an underlying reason why we have this affliction. Somone said: "In order to understand a certain type of suffering, so that you can help and support others with the same kind of ailment, you yourself must also suffer before you can become such a person". A Lady here in Temple, TX was diagnosed with breast cancer and as she went to the doctors office to get the results from the first line of tests, she met a volunteer from a breast cancer organization in the lobby and they started talking. The Lady said: "Sign me up - I want to go to the hospitals and talk to newly diagnosed cancer patients". The answer she got was: "Come back one year from now - at that point, you will know what you are talking about". As to the stress-headaches, migraines and hang-over headache sufferers, well that may be the worst headache that they have ever experienced and even though it is anoying to listen to them comparing it to CH, all we really can do is to smile and give them an encouraging word or two. Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by marty on Oct 31st, 2005, 6:46am Chillrmn 1 Went to the doctor in El Cajon two years ago for CH - he wrote an actual prescription that said: At onset: Take TWO Excedrin Drink one caffinated soda I still have that prescription slip :-/ Marty |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by Jasmyn on Oct 31st, 2005, 8:14am Listen my friend, I'm with you on that one! Especially when in cycle and on the damn meds. I just don't have patience with people and am just too tired to explain. So... I become totally anti-social, anti-hero, antiquated and the total antithesis of my former expressive, extroverted, exuberant self. But then again, I'm not always a good girl and logical under cluster conditions [smiley=bash.gif] ;) |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by Sandy_C on Oct 31st, 2005, 9:05am Besides my husband, one or two close friends, and just this last cycle, my boss, nobody has seen me get hit, so they have no clue and spout the "Oh, I know just how you feel and this is what I do ---" crap. My husband KNOWS what I'm going through - he just can't imagine the pain level because he has never experienced anything like that himself. My friends and boss have some idea, but again pretty much clueless. As far as the rest are concerned, I just smile, say thanks for the advice, then ignore it. I don't have the time nor inclination to play oneupsmanship with them. Sandy |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by sandie99 on Oct 31st, 2005, 10:16am I've met lots of people who say they can understand the pain we're feeling...but who don't have a clue. Honestly, I appreciate a lot more those who say that they have no idea what it's like but that they show their sympathy. And yes, there has been some folks I would have wanted to hurt during hit when they offer their "understanding"... ;;D |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by juvy on Oct 31st, 2005, 11:02am ghost we get it all the time. especially from the migrainers. If my husband is around he just asks them..."Does it hurt enough for you to want me to put a bullet in your head and end it?...No? then shut up". and for those who offer aspirin or other remedies...He just tells them to come to him when they cut off an appendage and he'll get them a band aid. got to love the man. |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by fubar on Oct 31st, 2005, 11:16am I know it's hard for people to accept this, but our pain is no worse than others. EVERYBODY has their own '10', and everybody has experienced their own personal version of '10'. My '10' (before clusters) was nothing like the '10' I learned about after I had clusters, but it was still just the worst pain I had ever felt. My point is this... whether it's a hangnail, a hangover, or a stubbed toe... it's still your pain and your pain scale. It would be a good thing for many of us to realize that everybody has their own version of clusters. I know too many people who are suffering with things I cannot possibly fathom. I am grateful that all I have to deal with is clusters. I can thank God for all the good things in my life, and I don't expect anybody in this world to know my pain or feel sorry for me. -Fu |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by thomas on Oct 31st, 2005, 11:28am I ignore people like that. I refuse to get into a "my pain is greater than yours" argument. If people are generally concerned or interested I will educate them, if not, who cares? CH doesn't define who I am, nor do I let it affect how I live my life (a majority of the time). Nor, do I give one rat's ass what some ignorant fuck thinks about my head pain. It is mine and I deal with it. Period. |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by rickyshot on Oct 31st, 2005, 11:41am I have had quite some experience with other pain other than CH like childbirth (no meds), 2 miscarriages, a fractured foot which I had to walk a 1/4 mile back to a car in Jamaica (OMG) , hysterectomy, 2 ceasareans but for all that there were meds and treatments that brought some form of relief and they would lessen and finally heal and go away. But for CH and my complicated migraines they are torture and I never get any fuckin relief and they linger and linger with other sick symptoms . The head rules the body so as you all know you get a whole lot of "interesting" feelings and symptoms when the noggin is not right. But any chronic condition is not fun and definitely changes your personality. I am not even the same person as I was in my 20's. The head shit started in my 30's both CH and migraines sigh....... |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by Cathi04 on Oct 31st, 2005, 11:41am Hey, Fubar! Good to see you!! How's life??????????? Great thoughts, BTW. Pain is pain....and I still believe CHers have their pain thresholds raised on a regular basis. Ah, yes, but CH wont kill you.................although it might make ya feel like you WISH you could die..... :-/..... Well, to you, Fu, and everyone else, PF gang, Cathi |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by rickyshot on Oct 31st, 2005, 11:47am And I work in a hospital and have been in the medical profession for 30 years and I have seen things worse than CH to my eyes. Burn victums who live with constant excrutiating pain and sometimes disfigured for life along with pain or people with cancer at the end stage who are in terrible pain and will die. At least our condition is not fatal or disfiguring. The Hortons thing is temporary and I exclude those of us who passed on who commited suicide from CH. Let us face facts He who feels it knows it. |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by alienspacebabe on Oct 31st, 2005, 11:47am Thomas has an excellent point - no use getting into an argument about who's pain is worse to deal with.... My sister was telling me last week about a friend of hers who has really bad TMJ and migraines and how it's so difficult for her to function - my sis just doesn't know how she does it. Pointless for me to even comment.... made me realize, though, that I often try to empathize by saying I know someone who has that affliction, etc. Gotta stop doing that - it's irritating as hell! |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by seasonalboomer on Oct 31st, 2005, 12:18pm A lot good points being made. As far as I know, at the end there aren't any awards given for "withstanding the most pain", "able ot handle worst pain known to man", "best comeback for dispassionate jerks", etc.... So we suck it up, we come here, we help our supporters understand, and try to turn our inability to be understood at times into possibly greater compassion for those who think they're experiencing their own "10". Pain sucks. Scott |

Title: Re: Ok Got A Question! Post by stevegeebe on Oct 31st, 2005, 7:43pm I don't bother anymore. Getting hit when others are around leaves most second guessing their inane assumptions and boastful comparisons. It's a road they are unaware of and have never been down. Trying to explain it is a waste of oxygen which is something I would rather not do. You know what I mean. Steve G |
