Title: auto injector question ?? Post by cootie on Oct 25th, 2005, 9:28pm I had my doc start up Brad's script for trex again JUST IN CASE cuz we need to stock up.....just in case ! Picked up the script today and got two boxes of the stat doses.....two in each box. But there was no auto injector thingy-ma-bob ?? There is or or more in the other trex I have stashed from last year....Brad's never done injections before. But shouldn't you get a autoinjector thingy with each script or not. I do alot of dog and puppy and animals shots on my own and always use a new needle cuz they dull so QUCIK. ok.......injection illiterate and tryin to learn Pam Dam.....the original script for the two stat doese boxes was $ 266.00 !!!!! Insurence paid all but 30.00 THANK GAWD !!!!!!! Insurence starts over again with deductable in January so we will be paying out alot before there cover'd again first. His insurence is upping the policy rate for the shop 37 % again too and they may have to switch again !!! Oh noooooooo !! Upped it that much last year and we pay more co-pay and it will NOT pay on alot of meds unless generic. It's just gettin sky high for that small shopt to afford and they are struggling for the first time. Brad's been there since high school. Times are gettin harder and some of us are startin to fall !!! Hope it holds up and ch stays away !!!! |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Oct 25th, 2005, 9:38pm Man, cootie, sorry to hear that. I am not sure if each statdose comes with an auto injector....you would think so. I would just simply take apart the thing and get the trex and follow the Imitrex Tip. In my opinion, a full dose is way too much anyway. And my pharmy and doc both said although the needle does dull with each use, if you use one needle 3 times, it should be fine. That sucks about your insurance. Luckily my insurance only went up 16% this year, so we only pay $658 a month now for us 3 in my family. Thats it. Just $658 a month. Well wishes to you. PF wishes BMonee |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by unsolved1 on Oct 25th, 2005, 9:44pm No, the injector does not come with the refills. The injector is fairly cheap though. Maybe $15 or so. Stockpiling is a good idea ;) UNsolved |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by cootie on Oct 25th, 2005, 9:49pm Thanks guys !! I know I have one maybe two of them auto injectors but wasn't sure how that goes. And I asked the lady that gave me the script and she said she didn't know much about them (imagine that) and I'd need to talk to a pharmasist. They were all busy and I was about ready to KEEL OVER so I just 'moved on' outa line and took my goodies. Insurence SUCKS.....sumone needs to put a stop to this bullshit !!!!! The shop has always paid most of the guys insurence for them, it's a small print shop (with big big presses). But after last years increase they had to pass the increase along to the guys and take about 100 bucks each from there checks a month. Well now what......it will go up every year this much and they will either PAY IT or move on and get less benifiets and probly end up with the same thing starting all over again next year with them also doin the yearly increase. Alot of pre-existing conditions also in this lot considering alot of them are mid 40's to low 50's. Katrina changed the world........everything is goin up !!!! I lower'd my puppy prices in half practically to move them cuz no one has the money. If I would of RAISED my prices I'd of ruin'd my sales........see what I mean ? It's happening with other stuff !!!! |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by maffumatt on Oct 26th, 2005, 12:09am Ask for the vials instead of the auto inj refills. You will get 2 more doses per refill. |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Oct 26th, 2005, 4:04am I personally find the vials and syrenges much more convenient anyway.......and besides, that needle that comes with the autoinjector is HUGE! I hate needles. BMonee |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by cootie on Oct 26th, 2005, 9:37pm HUGE........oh oh.........poor Brad !! Anyhow......get this......I don't have any autoinjectors or anything with all of Brad's stash we been workin on. WTF ? I just picked the stuff up and stashed it amd am tryin to build up a decent stash just in case rite now. Looked thru all the stuff we have hid away HOPEING to never use and there is nothing to administer the stat doses. How do you get the vials ? Does insurence deal with them in the same manner ? I have puppy and dog/cat size needles but um.......some of them are a tad bit too long me thinks. I like to use the pig size with vaccines but it takes longer to get the stuff under the skin. I only know animal med lingo Pam |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by Opus on Oct 26th, 2005, 10:33pm Coots, You need to get the starter kit, it comes with the pen, a case and two shots, there is a picture in my gallery. (http://www.pbase.com/pjbgravely/ch) You will need to get a prescription for the vials, they come in a 5 pack, if his doc allows splitting shots then get 15 needles with vials. Most pharmacies don't stock them, but can order, some will say they don't exist. Opus/Paul |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by cootie on Oct 26th, 2005, 11:06pm Seems to me we got ONE last year but I can't find it......he 'mite' have it stashed in his truck with his emergency stash (he has no idea how to use)......so do you get a new stat pen with every script or how do you keep useing the same one over and over ? I am only used to the tabs not the shots.......so I am gonna be of no help am I ? Guess we should of ask more questions at the convention instead of sat at the bar yakking. We kept thinking we'd get to go to Dalas and all the conventions and had time to 'info up' on all this till my house/kennel/pet sitter sprung it on me she was moveing. Caught with our pants down Pam |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by BlueMeanie on Oct 26th, 2005, 11:55pm Hey Cootie, Looks like your having a heck of a time with this statdose stuff. [smiley=laugh.gif] First off, the pen is NOT a disposable item. It can be used over and over and over again. Secondly, I recommend to not even use it. When you use the statdose pen, you will be using a FULL shot. Most Clusterheads can easily abort a CH with 1/2 shot saving lots of money over time. Instructions for the 1/2 shot method is in the Imitrex tip to the left of this page. It's easy. Just pull the glass vial out of the cartridge holder, jab needle into skin and push with a Q-tip until 1/2 the liquid is used. Save the rest for another attack later. That's all there is to it. If you need a statdose pen and cartridge holder, I.M. me your address. I've got a few of them and can send you one. |

I have a bunch too, I can drop em off anytime, but like BlueMeanie said, you can't do 1/2 shots with the pen. |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by cootie on Oct 27th, 2005, 10:14am You CAN'T ??? (half dose with the pen).......shit ! So you guys all ask for vials ? Or do you use regular needles like for diabetics and do the half doses ??? I am showing my ignorence here but I can't let that stand in the way of learning. I hoped Brad would of caught on to more of that at the conventions. Guess he was havein too much fun in the bar yakkin also. Hey.....we WERE on vacation for a change.......otherwise we don't do that regular. Excuses excuses Pam I think Brad is goin to need a training lesson from the big giffy boy........(since he lives close....and at his convienience) Head's still doin ok but a warnin or two Brad says from time to time. Not goin to panic. Thanks guys !!! |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by M.R. on Oct 27th, 2005, 2:36pm Cootie If you need Stat dose pens, email me. I have about 18 of the damn things. I also have a movie on how to use them. I split the shots, but with the second half, I just use the pen, as it's easier. Let me know. Mike My spelling sucks too |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Oct 27th, 2005, 7:45pm I could be wrong, but i thought my vials were 6mg. Cootie, you can get a half shot with the statdose system, you just cant use that injector thing that you are missing. You are gonna have to do the imitrex tip. It reads a little confusing, but when you are in need, just open the thing up and take it apart, its very simple. There are many insulin syrenges, and they all have different needles. An Imitrex shot is just supposed to be subcutaneous, so not very far below the skin. I shopped around for the smallest gauge needles i could find, and prefer the ones that are just 1/4 inch in length. Yes, the vials and syrenges are just like getting the statdose in terms of insurance purposes. If you dont have to fork over a bunch of dough, you might wanna just get some vials and needles now and use a vial first, then you will have an empty vial to empty the statdose into so you will never have to use the autoinjector. If it will cost you a bunch of dough to get them, just PM me, i'll get it taken care of. PF wishes. Supporters need rest too. BMonee |

Title: Re: auto injector question ?? Post by thebbz on Oct 27th, 2005, 8:11pm Pre-emptive warning,,,do not play around with the pen thingy when it is loaded. When you place the pen to the skin the spring loaded safety ring on the end is depressed. If you do this with your fingers and hit the button when the pen is loaded you will fling 6mg of life saver juice in the air. :o This is not recommended and has happened. The imitrex tip on the left is easy and you need nothing extra but a Q-tip. The doctors and the druggist both are SUPPOSED to demonsrate the injection procedure, they make demontrator kits for the doctors office. You sound just a bit nervous you will do fine. All of the above is all good info. Big needles no problem, I'd jab that stuff with a rusty pipe if I had to.LOL [smiley=laugh.gif] jb |
