Title: Rex this one's for yoo hoo!!
Post by LeLimey on Oct 23rd, 2005, 2:26pm
Today is the 200th anniversary when the french navy were whomped into submission by Nelson (naval term ;) )
In honour of "every man doing her duty this bitch Brit is carrying on the tradition!

Lesser known facts about Napoleon include the fact he was a postman. His father was a postman and his mother was a postmistress.

This one's for you Rexie Baby!http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a139/lelimey/GB.gif

Sounds like a good excuse to celebrate to me ;;D  Back then, us colonists were just barely on our second president, and we were happy to see the french distracted elsewhere.

Don't let me get my history book out! There's plenty of other events where the french whooped the brits big time (without help). Fuck, Joan of Arc fucked them up pretty good a couple of times.
It's amazing that the brits haven't taken any cooking lessons from the french though...
Has anyone EVER had a decent meal in the UK?
If you say yes, you're lying your ass off...

Fish and Chips? Bangers and Mash??? Shepperd's freakin pie? They eat more potatoes than Idaho can produce...
Gimme a break and stay on your wrong side of the road driving island crowded with pikeys....

I crap bigger than England! ;;D

During the Napoleonic Wars, Robert Fulton had offered to build Napolean a fleet of steamships to help him overcome his archenemy, the British.  The French emperor, believing Fulton was talking nonsense, impatiently dismissed the visionary young man, who subsequently pioneered the world's first steamships.  British historian Lord Acton commented the "England was saved by the shortsightedness of the adversary.  Had Napoleon shown more imagination and humility... the history of the nineteenth century would have taken a very different course."

This was the story told by Alexander Sachs to Franklin D. Roosevelt and convinced him of the need to develop nuclear power after FDR was less than electrified by the Einstein/Szilard letter warning him of German access to uranium and it being turned into extremely destructive bombs.

And there's one more thing about Napoleon. Every short man with big plans has what's called "Napoleon complex". He must have been a short man... :)

I'll be utterly precocious and berate you for your careless assumption that I am a primitive tribal person from Africa!  You must feel totally intoxicated by the exuberace of your own verbosity to even ask such a question.

Crusts off naturally!

That was totally beastly of you to presume that I will ever touch a gastly piece of crust with my pout puckered lips! ::) :)

I contribute her preference to crusts to her too many visits to the British African Colony with too much of those G&T's in her sails ;)

the fondness for g&t's she got from her mother (who was probably related in some way to josephine btw) puts us back on track with this thread lol
i think the honeymoon in kenya might explain her fondness for crusts i mean to say they stayed in a treehut  ;) ;;D

Treehuts are totally overrated in my opinion.

Shacks are the latest in modern living and home decoration.  She'll need a few more G&T's to cope with a honeymoon in Africa nowadays.  A bit long in the tooth for that one now, I presume. ;;D

I liked her too. I met her twice, once at a St Patricks Day ball for the Irish Guards for whom she was commander in chief and it was then that she was knocing back gin and dubonnet like there was no tomorrow.. she was incredible! I met her at a royal garden party too. I was lucky enough to go to two of those when I was alot younger.. the things we don't appreciate when we're young eh?

Yeah.

Can't pick on the British in the culinary department. Who else could come up with spotted dick and bubble & squeek? http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/eat.gif

Saw some of the festivities aboad Victory. Wow. 200 years.

On that, French was a second language for Napoleon. He grew up speaking Italian. He wasn't very big on the navy either. It seems nuts in hindsight. Poor dope.http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/napoleon.gif

As many of you know, I'm a fan of the Guy Fawkes story. November 5th makes the 400th anniversary of this little episode. You people better do something big for it. I'll be disappointed if not. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/grenade.gif

The thing is that over here, we don't have to choose between sails or cabbage. We aren't obligated to swill  tea or bottled water with silly names at every meal. We just dig into Colonel Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken and top it off with a Starbucks designer $5 a cup coffee. Heaven on earth. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/toothpick.gif

Rex the fact that you HAD to live on beer makes me wonder that even in  the depths of england there is nearly always a chance to find some ?good?? american junk to eat i.e.  macdonalds ,burger king ,pizza hut& kfc
of course this being the best that american cuisine has to offer i really have no reason to wonder why you just drank beer!!!! of course the presence of theses 'fine dining establishments' is to make all you colonists feel more at home when you visit our green and pleasant land (because of all the rain ;) ) in search of more than 200 years of history ;) [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif]

Zany, last time I was in London I wanted to experience evertything England has to offer.... I wasn't about to go to MacDonald or BK, we had those in France already...

I played a show at the infamous Marquee, hence the heavy consumption of brew.
But now that I think back, I had a couple of decent meals.
One was in an Indian restaurant and the other one was a great Chinese place...  catch my drift??? ;;D

So what kind of "Iron Chef" are you Zany???

Really? I wondered who still had the things. I don't see it restaurants much anymore. Maybe New York. Wish I lived in NY. Wonderful Indian restaurants so long as you don't look too closely at the rugs. http://members.shaw.ca/wenpigs/angry/suck_kr.gif?SSImageQuality=Full

They have Pizza Hut in England? Zounds. Over here PH has pretty good pizza for the money. Nothing like my neighbors, but not too bad.
