Still want to make out you are in Alaska John?
What a coincidence.. we have another new member there called DBS? I wonder if you two know each other?  ::)

I now use Dilaudid and Actiq (and after a DBS operation, the amount used is 1/10th of what I was using prior to the surgey).  I never developed a craving for any of the drugs that I used and am once again able to lead a "normal life".  Very few people who take narcotics for chronic pain (something like 1%) become addicted. I hope, with the DBS operation that I had a month ago to be able to not have to use any medications within the next 3-4 months.

Been chronic for 10 years, get the occasional short remission-meaning hours-relatively pain free.  Normal day: take my meds (morphine, fentanyl, diazepam, verapamil), take meds throughout the day to keep the pain reasonable-get about 6 attacks a day, usually with only a half-hour break in between; get home, take sleeping pill, next day start all over again. will probably have DBS surgery this summer, tried all known meds and some unknown ones, no effect except from the opiates.

Chronic here, get 6-8 hits every day since 11/96, no meds work, or oxygen, being evaluated for DBS next month

I am intractably chronic, nothing works. I  hope to get some reliable information on DBS from the Univesity of Kiel, Germany in the next few weeks and will pass it on.

... Deep Brain Hypothalamic Stimulation (DBS) is done in Milan by a Dr. Gennaro Bussone. If I had to choose between the two, I would take DBS as it has had some success, but since the first operation was performed only about 2 1/2 years ago, the long term efficacy of the procedure is not known nor are any possible long term complications, such as infection. The operation was being performed in Liege, Belgium, but has since ceased as one patient died due to bleeding in the brain, the exact cause of which has not yet been determined.    The opertion is also being considered to be performed in Germany.

..I agree that Dilaudid, Fentanyl and Stadol do pose risks with some people, particularly fentanyl, which, as you know, should not be used unless a person has used other opiates over a long period. I think that when some CHers use a medication that initially reduces the pain and then the pain goes back up in intensity, "rebound" is thought of as the cause, particularly these days when it is a popular subject.  For me, the medictions that I take have been the only ones that reduce the pain. I am, however, at a point where I am tired of pills and pain and thus will be getting the DBS operation performed in mid-September this year.

Hmmm,

Not sure this is actually PROOF or not, and won't say either way...

However, DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) is a new hypothalamus surgery that has been developed and my neuro told me I am one of 5 patients he sees in the St Louis area... so it is a real procedure with some big risks, and even the successes I've read were only temporary.

So, I won't say he is and won't say he isn't.

Just my 2 cents,
Mack

I just reread this....
I lost my train of thought mid sentence in my above reply...yet another sign of sleep deprivation. DOH!

My neuro told me I am one of 5 patients he sees in the area that would qualify for DBS.

Since I am half asleep and out of it, I decided to reread all the quotes, as I tend to anaylize writing styles (Cootie's is my fave, always signs her name in a unique way). The similiarities are pretty close. Also, if not already jumping off the page at you, there are two key clues:

The top quote from CHTom from Oct 18th and I :
Quote:
I hope, with the DBS operation that I had a month ago...

and the very last quote from Hdido and I :
Quote:

Coincidence? I think not!

Gotta side with ya on this one Limey! Good call!!!

Makes me wonder how many incarnations this troll actually has, and how long he has been trolling this site and under what other usernames.

A troll by any other name...IS STILL A TROLL!!!

*edited to add: When my neuro mentioned the DBS I researched it and found 6 operations performed in Italy. 2 were successful for a short period but the CH returned. 2 had no relief and 2 died from Hemmorrage. There is a high risk of brain hemmorrage and with my luck..... I'd probably be better off to just go with a frontal lobotomy. Maybe I'll just settle for a bottle in front of me.  ;;D

Ditto to what Carl said....The Sept. surgery is pretty coincidental, don't you think?  Personally, I like to look at writing styles too, although that is a little more subjective.

One thing I always wondered about:
About 6 weeks ago CHTom said he's going for the DBS surgery (no clinic, no doctor given), and therefore would be away from the board for 4 weeks.
Now, he really wasn't seen for a month, but was is it for DBS and recovery from it? Or was it another reason, like a prison term or a short sojourn in a mental ward? By the amount of information given about this time, I rather suspect is was the latter.

No real clusterhead would cover such a novel procedure as DBS in just one sentence, and instead continue with his encomium of narcotics (ab)use for CH.

CHTom, tell us the details of the DBS or fuck off.

Has anyone also noticed they both 5uk? jump in try to pi55 off someone then run like little kids, I mean at least most trolls just drop off info or grab info and run but this putz just seems to jump in to try to mess with folks. Mostly the CHens but always gets backlash from all else. Be a Man and if you are going to try to make a point defend it. Shoot I will take the abuse and if wrong I aslo will admit it. If right I will defend it. But I try not to throw out abuse directed at someone then run when the heat gets turned up. I know I have even pi55ed of some but I never did it just to stir up bad feelings, I have made mistakes and I have also misspoken. I just dont get why he they whatever comes here and about 50% of the time makes direct attacks at CHers, like we aint got enough to deal with. As both h-dildo and CHTom every now and them will actually be helpful or appear to be trying to but it still doesnt off set the crap caused. Ok ive said my peace ill just STFU now. ;;D :-X

There continues to be a number of posts concerning CH suffers becoming addicted to narcotic analgesic medication, even after being used for only a very short time.  I am publishing the following statement to try to allieve concerns that CH sufferers, who may be or have been prescribed such medications, are in great danger of becoming drug addicts. I am not endorsing the use or non-use of these medications but just hope to put some sufferers' minds at ease and also to clarify, which I think that the statement does an excellent job of doing, the difference between dependence and addiction.

I think that there is the distinct possibility that legitimate users of prescription Oxycontin and other opiates might have to switch to buying heroin if the government threatens to or arrests doctors who prescribe the stuff for chronic pain patients.  To make a point clear:  there is a big difference between becoming dependent upon a drug and being an addict (see the article).  Any long term use of opiates will result in dependence to control pain and higher doses will be needed as time goes by, but such patients don't use the drug to get high and don't abuse it and NEED it.  (the rest not copied)
