Title: Re: LADIES - OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MO Post by pattik on Oct 18th, 2005, 8:36am Nice cartoon, sis. I just had the girls checked this month. It was a definite owie this time around. Each technician is different in their gentleness, but that won't keep me from doing this every year. And Goatie, this thread is a NO GHOST ZONE ;;D http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y71/northcolor/ghostbuster.gif |

Try it with no boobies at all. Not nice, I promise you. Worse ever still was the looks I got from all the women in the waiting room, like I was some kind of prevert just being there. No, ladies. You don't have a patent on it. |

Title: Re: LADIES - OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MO Post by pattik on Oct 18th, 2005, 8:44am That's right, Brian. Men can and do get breast cancer too. So if it's in the male family history--keep aware. |

http://bestsmileys.com/signs15/24.gif That's right...I did forget men get breast cancer too. Do they do a mammogram on a man too, or is it a different type of test because of the size of a man's breast...??? [smiley=huh.gif] Mel, sqooshie boobies are better?...guess i'm in trouble... :P All I know is it has to be done...and I will be brave... :-/ Hopefully, it will be someone gentle. Langa |

Title: Re: LADIES - OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MO Post by minnie on Oct 18th, 2005, 9:53am Honestly it's not bad.The peace of mind is worth it,just remember don't rely just on the mammogram.if you feel something but nothing shows they can do a sonogram on them to double check.I was a little young to get mine but because of family history I did.I'm also going to the dermatolagist for a screening for skin cancer all my aunts and now some of my cousins on my Dads side have had skin cancer removed.be careful out there no more tanning beds and tanning outside for me gotta be around to watch my kids grow up.so many things more important then a tan. Minnie who's been there done that |

Title: Re: LADIES - OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MO Post by sandie99 on Oct 18th, 2005, 11:16am I wear a pink wrippon on my jacket to recall all of those among us who have or have had breast cancer. My friend's mother suffers it right now. Her operation went well and her cancer has not spread. :) It's important thing your brought up, Maria. Thank you. :) Sanna |

Title: Re: LADIES - OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MO Post by Carl_D on Oct 19th, 2005, 4:10am http://media1.funnyjunk.com/pics/0530.jpg ;;D All kidding aside, I lost a good friend 10 years ago in MI to breast cancer. In my area here, they just lit up the St Louis ARCH pink for one night to promote breast cancer awareness month. Kudo's Langa for starting this thread, cause some women do forget. ;) Peace, Mack Daddy |

Title: Re: LADIES - OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MO Post by DennyM on Oct 19th, 2005, 7:30am Had my mammogram etc etc back in June - just before I came up here to Dauan Is. Yes, it's always painful, but oh so worth it for the peace of mind once that "all clear" comes through. Don't know how true it is, but have been told that the procedure is more excrutiating for the more well-endowed than it is for those of us who n'avoir- pas-dupois. The mind boggles! Goodness only knows how the local women on Dauan would handle such a thing. Apart from the fact that the technology simply doesn't exist up here, most of the ladies are absolutely HUGE and it's rather obvious that not a lot of them wear bras under those loose-fitting dresses they wear. I guess it's just more comfortable for them that way. Our suppliers in Cairns, from time to time, send us bras to sell in the shop - very large bras! Even so - no-one seems particlarly interested. I think Ive sold two since I've been here. Brian runs a mile or goes fishing as soon as any lady walks into the shop and starts looking at them! And yes - he DID have a mamogram. I think all blokes should have at least one! It might serve to make them a tad more sympathetic!! Den |

Title: Re: LADIES - OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MO Post by lilboo on Oct 19th, 2005, 10:11pm It is a good idea to get checked, my sister just found out 4 months ago that she had breast cancer, thank god she went for her yearly mamogram that's how they found the lump. She had it removed then went thru chemo and lost all her hair :(, now she is having radiation done, she will be through with all the treatments in about 2 more weeks. She has been a real trooper through it all. I even went in and had my first mamogram done about 2 months ago, everthing came back normal. Don't delay it could save your life. Kathy |

Title: Re: LADIES - OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MO Post by high_commander on Oct 20th, 2005, 1:22pm I've been operated on for tumors since I was 17. 20 years, 4 major removals and 3 biopsies later, and no cancer. Found the first ones by self-exam (which hubby gladly volunteered to confirm) And now go every year to get squashed. Have never had any pain, just an extremely "squashed" feeling. My tech says that if they do it with care and concern for the patient, it shouldn't hurt. Lost a friend last month to breast cancer and have a strong family history, so keeping "abreast" (bad, bad pun) of what is happening with my girls, can only be a good thing. Danielle |
