Title: ebay/paypal/confusion
Post by cootie on Oct 12th, 2005, 11:02pm
How come when I click to pay for sumthin little I bought on ebay useing my paypal account it requests my credit card number and 3 diget number on back when they already have all that info ? I haven't bought anything on ebay for a long time......but I have a paypal account. Didn't like that 'get verified' stuff either and never did that but still have some money left to use on buyin stuff. I didn't wanna give them my check book account number for that. What's the deal ? Anyone have a clue ? Paying a pal Pam

You need the 3 digit code, cuz it kind of assures them you have the actual credit card in your hand, not just the number and expiration date. It's required most everywhere, and certainly does make _me_ sleep better at night. That, a valium and a couple beers.

EBay gives you a $2,000 credit to buy stuff against your credit card. That's to hook you in. After that, you have to tie in a bank account, because you're more than a casual or once in a life time user. The credit card costs EBay extra percent of profit. The bank account means your for real (kinda), and it's backed by the credit card in case the bank account fails.
It's how I've been able to score DOZENS of O2 regulators, tanks and some cool used shoes.

The opportunity for disaster grows exponentially, but what the hey.......spice of life, and all that.

You can never have enough stuff.

Maybe the card you registered with Paypal expired, so it asks you for a card # and code. Go to paypal and update your info, that may do it

Just checkin in breifly here......thanks for the info guys. Shoes.....do you have as many pairs of shoes as that Marco's lady or did you buy her entire collection on ebay Hap.......hey.......one pair for every outfit rite ? Anyhow.....I updated my account not long ago but only have about 30 bucks left to use in paypay without gettin verified with that bank account stuff. Either way it seems odd they let me go thru the transaction with my paypal password and before completion it says it would like me to 'add credit card' info for them to have on hand for the remaining transactions with them. They already have it all and jus wanted to be sure I wasn't slippin into some sort of spoof land. I went directly thru ebay off the item page and clicked pay now. So dunno why it wants the credit card stuff AGAIN....even has my new 3 diget number off the new card already too. Before it wanted bank account info to continue past my remaining allowed spending (chargeing) cash flow. I jus updated about 3 weeks ago too. Seems it'd be the perfect scam to be able to link onto PAY NOW button off an item sold and ask for info and figure people think 'it's safe now' and give it up. Bigger and better spoofing thru your freindly ebay store Pam

PS: the item was only 99 cents.......hardly worth it I know. But got a few shirts also I am bidding on for DIRT cheap that are goin to be up soon too. Pays to wear a kid size........cheap cheap cheap.

Just some stuff Coots.

I've never been asked for that little three digit number since the first time I got my paypal account. Since ebay owns paypal, you'd think they'd have the info.  To be sure, I get lots of fake paypal email. It comes in batches now and then. I've looked into it and ebay/paypal say it's all BS. Typically, I'm told to check on my paypal account or dire consequences will result. I'm always told my identity has been stolen or that if I don't take immediate action, they will have to terminate... etc. Bullshit. I never have much there but there has never been a problem.  http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/uhm.gif

Maybe you have a renewed card? Mine is coming up and I may have to give them the new three digit.

Be careful is all, kids.
