Title: Purpleydog has gone to Doggy Heaven
Post by purpleydog on Oct 8th, 2005, 9:19am
My dog Murphy died yesterday. He was an 11 1/2 year old golden retriever, and he was the best dog. He became septic from infecton after surgery last week, and went into a coma yesterday at the vet's office. I was with him when he took his last breath. He didn't suffer.

He was the friendliest dog you could ever want to meet. He was laid back, calm, and never got upset about anything. His very favorite place to go was the vet's office, in fact both our dogs loved to go there. He was a happy dog. :) He loved people, and children especially.

When he was young, we started in with the nicknames, and his evolved into purpleydog. He knew it was his nick, and he would answer to that too. I took it for my nick.

I will miss him. Maggi, our other dog knew it as soon as I got home, and has been searching for him. She misses him already. I don't know if I will get another dog. One thing I know now, is that you learn a lot from animals. I've learned so much from my dogs, and Murph in particular.

He is in a better place now. I would always tell him he was my favorite doggy. (I'd tell Maggi that too.) And he was. He was the absolute best dog.

I'm sorry Chris, our lives are richer for having our pets and they leave a huge whole when they leave us. It's cruel how their lives are so much shorter than ours.
lots of love

Chris, I'm so sorry.

I have always - since the day I was born, had at least one dog (and several cats too).  Having a pet to me is one of the most enjoyable parts of my life.  They love me unconditionally, even when I have to scold them for something they've done.  In my adult life, I have had to put down 5 dogs because of illness (one because of injury), and I cried buckets with each one.  But, I went right back out and adopted another one.

My dog now, Boots (lab mix), sleeps with me and my husband (we kick him out now and then, if you know what I mean  ;)), lays under our dinner table hoping we drop something (which we usually do), waits at the door for me to come home from work, grabs his chew bone and practically drags me out to the deck, and then it's "cocktail hour" (Boots knows those words).  We sit on the deck and have cocktails, and Boots has his chew bone.  Even Charlie, my female Calico cat, tolerates him (he loves her).  Boots about 8 years old now, and is getting gray, but he's active and healthy, and I hope we have him for many more years.  I would be lost without a dog in my life.

Consider adopting another dog.  If not for yourself, maybe for Maggie.

Love ya

Sandy

Dear purplelydog,

My condolences on the loss of Murphy. It really hit home when you describred Maggi's reaction.

My family had pet ducks. A couple of Mallards named "Dot and Dash" They followed Mom around like puppys and waited for me at the end of the driveway for my return from school everyday. We could pick them up, feed and play with them like dogs. No slugs or spiders in our yard. They would line up a slug up like spaghetti and slurp it down, slime hanging off the beaks and "buck bucks" in abundance.

One day a neighbor dog killed the female "Dash" , entire neighborhood was apalled . The drake was disconsolate and for weeks  wandered around lookng for her. We could stand it no longer, Mom knew a farmer who had ducks. I carried him on my lap and we drove there and let him go to the flock. To this day (30 +years) I remember that day. He ran to them ( ever see a duck run, its hilarious) and disappeared in a group of 50. Happiness is belonging. Stay with this group and you will see.

Do animals have souls? Does God love us?  Give Maggi a hug, you'll know the answer...

Thinking of you, your family, Murphy and Maggi.

Regards

Jon019

I don't post often but having owned dogs since I was 5 I can understand the emotions! A dog is more than a pet he she becomes intergral to your existance. they love you like know other! Murfy will be in a happy place and will be happy for you that he didn't suffer to make your grief worse.

Wait a few weeks allow Maggi and your family to adjust (allow maggi to adjust) then concider introducing a new dog into your lives!

hugs

Scott

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

It would be nice to think this is true.  You never know...

Sorry for your loss Chris.

You always rememer the pleasure given.
They dont go away they just move into that little kennel in your heart.
50 odd years later I still remember the love my little bloke gave me for so long when I was a kid.
Now i'm a big kid & they are still giving me that love.

Kind Regards

I want to thank everyone for your thoughts and hugs and kind words. It really means a lot. Murphy will always be in my heart.  He was such a puppy. He was very large for a golden, try to imagine a 100 lb bundle of yellow fur, acting like a puppy. He always had a smile.  :)

Thank you.

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

So sorry for your loss Chris.

Pets become members of our family.  They have their own personalities and losing one is difficult and takes time to get over.  I have fond memories of the pets that have touched my life over the years and passed.  I know they're still looking out for us somehow.

So very sorry for your loss Chris.

My thoughts and prayers are going out to you and your family.  I think loosing a pet is one of the hardest things in life to face.  I had a lab growing up and he was the best.  He too always had a smile on his face!  It truly is a shame that their lives are so short.   :'(

Suitable Remembrance by Scott Evans
--------------------------------------------
How do I honor you my friend?
My endlessly good friend

By getting as excited about going for a walk down our street today
As I have any of the other days
To howl with delight at the idea and jump and spin
And anticipate all the great things we’ll see and smell

By loving a great nap position
Where you get your head propped just right
And your arm stretched out
With your legs in just the right position

By spending time sitting in my yard
Looking out vigilantly
But taking in the smells and the sounds
And the peace that a quiet evening affords us

By rolling down the windows and hopping in the truck
And letting the breeze blow against me
And really seeing what we pass by
And yelling out greetings to those we see

By getting excited at the sound of the turning signal
Because you never know what will be around the next corner
Even when you’ve been around that corner before
Things never stay the same

By sometimes just sitting and looking at each other and smiling
And seeing each other for what we are
A pack
Lucky to be enjoying a good cookie together

By acting a little mischievous once in a while
And doing something that people don’t expect you to do
But that when people think about it
They see, that’s just you being you

By loving all the people around us
And getting excited when “grammy” pulls up
And when “uncle john” walks in
And listening for the next car door

By putting your ears back in amazement at small children
Knowing that while they aren’t yours
They should be loved
And are just fun to look at

By giving sweet kisses
And taking sweet kisses
And graciously, delicately taking what is being given
For what it gives to both you and the giver

By never stopping being playful
And appreciating a good game of toss
Or whatever game
And always trying

By being authentic and never compromising
And speaking your mind

By loving a good hunk of shade on a hot day
And the time it affords to take it all in

By being ceaselessly graceful
In the package that was given to you

By being appropriately embarrased
At those things that can be embarassing

By walking the fences
And shouting out to the neighbors that you see out there

By feeling a little funny when the pack isn’t all together
And thinking about those that aren’t here
