Title: Drama/Violence in the Office!
Post by Langa on Oct 6th, 2005, 4:03pm
This lady at work that sits in the office next to me just got punched in the face!   :o

I have to admit this lady has an awful attitude problem and mistreats her co-workers for no reason and I’m surprised she’s still here.  Anyway, I guess one of the guys in her group got fed up, and punched her in her face and I think he broke her nose.

All I heard was her say something rude and then I heard some screams. I run out of my office only to find people in the lady's office already trying to get the guy off of her.   He looked like a madman!  This lady is 5 feet tall and the guy is 6’6” - I mean regardless he should have never hit her like that.  It seems the guy just snapped.  After they got him off of her, they rushed her to the bathroom…she was bleeding from her nose.  I’m sure he broke it.   :-[

I think they called the cops for him, and an ambulance for her.   :-/

WTF?  If I’m not walking in on people having sex in the office, I’m dealing with drama and violence in the office…jeesh!

I know they're going to fire the guy for sure.

I'm fairly certain that they have no choice but to fire him, AND he deserves it!  Regardless of how much of a bitch, and PITA she is, he stepped WAY over the line.

Now, how can we get the bitch fired, too?

Langa - you're going to have to start taking a hard hat to work with you.  Good Lord - what an awful atmosphere to work in.

I agree with Chuck - they have no choice but to fire him - but I think she has to go too!

The guy always did seem kinda strange to me...like a walking time-bomb even though he seemed really nice... [smiley=huh.gif]

The cops just cuffed him and took him away and she was taken to the hospital...

I guess they both learned a lesson today...

Sigh...

There is a lesson in this for everyone. You never know how someone might react to a real or perceived insult or mistreatment. Even if they aren't nuts, everyone has a breaking point.

I know what you mean, I would never strike a woman for any reason.. but everyone has a breaking point...

I have a Processor Manager, that I swear a Toilet Bowl is cleaner than his mouth and the guy hates everyone so such, I do not think he even likes helself... I mean this guy is Mean and a Raceist... Says really mean things all the time.... I keep telling the Boss/Owner that one day he is going to get SUED over this guy, but I just get Laughed at.... I am just the Quality Manager, so I can not fire him, but I am waiting on the same thing to happen here... Some guy or one of the Girls that work there or their Boyfriend/Husband to come in there looking for him....

I am always watching when the people come and go...

But it Sucks to have to Deal with people like that, I am hoping once we get our plant moved at the end of this month, he will quit, It will be a 1 1/2 hr ride for him to and from work each way....

They should just fire them both and get rid of the problem...

Good Luck Langa....

God Bless Ya & PFDAN

Well I'd just like to say I don't agree with playing the "female card". I take full responsibility for my actions and if I push you to wanting to smack me in the mouth then go for it! You play with fire you're gonna get burned.
Whilst I appreciate nice manners and having doors held for me etc I want equality too and that means not hiding behind a skirt. If its something you wouldn't let a man get away with then you shouldn't let a woman get away with it either.
Whether you should be knocking seven bells out of either sex is another issue!

And some of them do on a regular basis.  Violence is not an answer to anything.  Sometimes it is, however the only option we are given.

I'm with Helen. I know how to avoid that kind of conflict. If I behave in a way that makes someone want to take a swing at me, then I'm prepared for that to happen. Of course, then whoever it is that swings...better run like hell.  ;)

I knew there would be reprocussions to my statement. Just to make it clear. I DO NOT agree that ANYONE should be violent towards ANYONE. Wether it me guy-girl or, girl-guy. It just seems that it's always a guy hitting a girl everyone gits in an uproar. I fully understnad what you're saying Pegg. It's a shame that there are people like that out there.

Added to clarify.... If the girl would have broke that guys nose, half the people here would be getting a laugh about it making smartass comments if you get my drift.

From the time my son was just a little guy he was raised to believe that you should never hit a female.  Frankly, I threatened to tan his ass if he ever did.

Apparently our teachings hold true to this day.  He's now 40 and manages a chain of sports bars.

The other night he was helping to "escort" a patron out of the bar when the patron's female companion laid a thumping on him.

He told us later he was standing there screaming at her "I promised my parents I'd never hit a woman but if you hit me one more time, I'm going to break a 40 year old promise".  She apparently did quite a number on his face before she was finished.  To his credit, he did remember his teachings.  She also returned the next day to apologize to him and to thank him for not calling the police and having her charged.

I agree though with Helen - nowadays with equality being the cry - we can't hide behind skirts, or play the female card any longer.  No one should hit another person - there has to be a better way to settle it.

Well, just got home.  They called all the Managers to a meeting after working hours to discuss the "assault".  They feel it's a sticky situation to fire the woman, since she was the one assaulted.  The concensus is that regardless of what she said or how he felt she provoked him, he should have never laid a hand on her.  He's definitely fired and when she gets back she's got one warning.  Someone complains about her and she's gone too.

I posed the questions:  1.  Were there ever any prior complaints from other employees with regard to her attitude and 2.  If so, was she ever given verbal or written warnings?  The Manager had a hard time answering that in fact the answer is yes to both - 8 complaints!!!  That's just ridiculous!  She has 2 verbal warnings in her file and 2 written, the rule is 3 written, violate the 3rd written and you're fired, so that's the protocol we'll follow.  Frankly, I feel this lady should've been let go a long time ago.

We also got word from the hospital - broken nose AND jaw, AND sprained wrist among some of her injuries.

We still don't know what she told the guy that made him snap...and I guess it really doesn't matter.  A woman is seriously hurt and a guy is in jail tonite over something that could've been avoided.

Well, I honestly think she probably had it coming, only I would have just slapped her across the face like I do my 10 yr old had she swore at me. :-/  There have been times I have come close to decking someone due to their inability to keep their trap shut, but fortunately I had enough restraint to run out the door and suck down some smokes. ;;D  I can't do that anymore, so I have a 70lb weight bag hanging in the basement that is always there for me if I need it. I have been beaten by a ex who was begging me to punch her daylights out. I refused and wound up beat to hell. I was just raised to believe that anyone who raises a hand to strike a woman is a cad.

Now office violence, they should not only fire the guy but press mega charges and be evaluated by a psychiatrist!

A lot of people are snapping for no reason, inpatient, pissed off, cant concentrate...  - feeling at a loss.... depressed -etc.

That's what the news said.

I don't go to bars anymore, trouble seems to be on my back, I love to dance & have a good time, but for some reason I most of time time get into it with someone, The last time I was in a bar, my sister in law & I want out to dance & have a couple of drinks, she went to the bathroom & I stayed at the table , next thing I know some woman about 5ft. came up behide me & hit me in the back, never seen her before in my life, only had one drink didn't talk to anyone there yet!! I looked at her & asked her what her problem was!! she didn't say a word, she looked behide me like someone was coming, I looked back & when I turned back at her, she sucker punched me, it was on!! she got stiches, & I got another drink!! the bar tender seen everything so that was that, but till this day still don't know what her problem was or who she was!! but seen her like a month or so later at the flea market & she ran away!!
we go to dinner & have some drinks here & there, a couple nice resturants here have dance floors so we still have fun now & then!! just been awhile !!
need to go dancing!!

Except for self defense.

Contrary to the PC of the left and the chivalry of the right:

Women are equally likely to intitiate violence in a relationship, but are far more likely to be injured when violence occurs.  When a woman in a film slaps or hits a man, that is seen as acceptable as the cad said or did something terribly insensitive. And hollywood film men always stick to the script and never strike back with greater force.

Women are responsible for a majority of physical abuse against children and the elderly, largely because they are in care-taker positions and they are human, not superhuman.  There is a difference between respecting the opposite gender and putting them up on a pedestal.

Quote:
He told us later he was standing there screaming at her "I promised my parents I'd never hit a woman but if you hit me one more time, I'm going to break a 40 year old promise".  She apparently did quite a number on his face before she was finished.  To his credit, he did remember his teachings.  She also returned the next day to apologize to him and to thank him for not calling the police and having her charged.

She sounds like the profile of the stereotypical abuser - drunk, out of control, apologetic the day after. "It will never happen again."

I don't see why any one would giver her permission to be violent because she has certain body parts and lacks others.  Makes absolutely no sense to me.  For decades, the push has been to get the police to press charges for assault and battery even if the other party is suffering from some bizzare idea that 'he (or she) didn't really mean it' or that it is otherwise ok.  It isn't.

If you let people get away with violence, it reinforces that behavior and creates an incentive for them to do it again.

Actually pointing a weapon at another human being and pulling the trigger isn't as easy as Hollywood would lead people to believe...

I must agree with you.  The first time was somewhat difficult until Charlie started shooting back, then it became really easy.

Agrees here.  Have raised my daughter to believe that if she puts herself in a man's shoes (or anyone's for that matter) and knocks the sh*t out of them, don't come crying to mama when she gets the sh*t knocked back.

We have found Black Hills ammunition to be the most accurate and constant of all match ammunition available. BH 175gr HPBT in P II & P III is recommended...
The use of steel scope rings and bases are strongly recommended. Suggested
manufactures: Iron Brigade Armory (One Piece Mount), Badger Ordnance, Nightforce
and Leupold MK4 (Not the adjustable screw model)

I was also raised to never hit a female, but Mama never said nuthin about a good arm lock.

As a law enforcement patrolman I went on my fair share of domestic distubance calls. I hated domestics.  I'd rather go to an armed robbery.  At least there you expect someone to try to hurt you.  It never ceased to amaze me that the wife would call the police.  We would get there and while hauling the husband out for beating his wife, the wife would then attack one of us.  I managed never to punch one, but a few got some very painful arm locks, wrist locks or nerve pinches.  I did have to pull my revolver on one who came at me with a knife.  Amazing how agreeable people get looking down the barrel of a loaded gun.

Bill, you are right.  Everyone has their breaking point.  Luckily no woman has ever pushed me that far.

People that resort to violence do so because they are too ignorant to verbally work out a conflict.  The only time violence is acceptable is if you or someone you care about is in immediate danger...

So what's the consensus about the whole thing in the office today?  Is the woman that was hit back to work?  I'd sure like to know what was said prior to the KO!

Love ya...and I'm glad that you are okay!!
