Title: and the bozo award goes to... Post by rossimft on Sep 27th, 2005, 11:28pm Today I learned a new word through the kind teachings of Mel. The word is "fubar." ;;D After I so nievely asked the meaning of the word, I checked this out with others- family, friends, old, young- didn't matter- not only did they ALL know the meaning of the word, they could also cite the use of the word in movies, etc. Well so much for no question is a dumb one huh! Title: Re: and the bozo award goes to... Post by Jeepgun on Sep 28th, 2005, 7:15am The one that's made its way into modern media, is SNAFU. "Due to operational snafus... blah blah blah.." I've read that in a number of news articles, and it cracks me up. SNAFU: Situation Normal: All Fucked Up. Here's another one for your collection: BOHICA. Bend Over. Here It Comes Again. |

Title: Re: and the bozo award goes to... Post by cootie on Sep 28th, 2005, 12:48pm Ya know I see alot of biker dues with the patch DILLIGAF on there vests or jackets and thru the years thought it was the name of some loved one they'd lost from around here. Alot of people make patches 'in memory of' lost friends or family so it jus made sense to me that's what it stood for also and figured the person was well liked cu so many have the same patch. Then we are down in SC for bike week in Myrtle last year and I see some strange guy with the "same patch" (my first real vacation out of state for a week verses our weekend stuff at home)............rite away I grab Brad and anouther friend and pointed out that that guy had that patch on and MUST be from our area !!! Lucikly I didn't ASK the guy about it. I bout fainted when Brad told me what it stood for and had NOTHING to do with freinds......can't believe after all these years I didn't know that !! I'd of looked like such an ass if I "had" said somethin to that long hair'd bad ass lookin grungey biker guy that was also in a club.......shit shit shit. Dingy is my favorite word Pam :P |

Title: Re: and the bozo award goes to... Post by Jeepgun on Sep 28th, 2005, 2:20pm When I was stationed in Japan, even us Army pukes got the benefit of that, Tom. We had F.E.N., (Far East Network), but we just called it, "Fen," because it sounded like some kind of tropical fungal infection. We also got AFRTS: Air Force Radio/Telvision (and I forgot what the "S" stood for) We called it "A-Farts." [smiley=laugh.gif] The Chinook helicopter was kindly called, "The Shit-hook," and the Blackhawk was called every four-letter word ever uttered in every language ever known to mankind... (The venerable UH-1H Huey was dearly beloved, and no one ever dared breathe a bad word about it) ;) |

Post by AussieBrian on Sep 29th, 2005, 1:28am Back when I was tour-guiding it was perfectly normal to radio in and report a passenger as FTL (fail to load) if they hadn't turned up to meet the bus. We had a new girl in admin who didn't like me much at all so one morning I reported a passenger as TFL. She got back to me a little later to say she understood FTL but what is a TFL passenger? I replied, "Too late". |
