Title: Philadelphia Zoo - Had a great time! (Photo link)
Post by Lizzie2 on Sep 23rd, 2005, 4:51pm
I get to go to the zoo tomorrow!!!!  (Hehe I'm reliving my childhood now that I'm an "adult")

Many of you may remember my little buddy Jared who died in February 2004 from cancer at age 9.  He was a THON child thru Hershey Med Center.  THON is our Penn State yearly fundraiser to raise money for children with cancer at Hershey Med.  School-wide we raised over $3.6 million all the years I went to Penn State. :)

Anyways....Jared had relapsed in August 2003 - he was actually a couple of rooms down  from Nancy's (OneEyeBlind) Christopher....families knew each other.  Which was a special bond for Nancy and I as well.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooo long story short, Nolan, who's Jared's younger brother, has a cub scout trip to the Philadelphia Zoo tomorrow.  They live out in Reading (think Reading Railroad on Monopoly), and I haven't seen them since last summer.  Nolan is in 3rd grade now - he's coming with his parents.  I can't wait!!!!

All the years I've been going to Jefferson for my own medical shtuff, I always would bug my dad on the way down to go to the zoo instead of to the hospital.  The Zoo exit off the Schuylkill is on the way into Center City.  He always laughed and said, "Next time."  Well we never got there!  I'm finally getting to go to the zoo!!!  Haven't been since like....7th grade.

Woot:)

Happy "kid"  ;;D

That'll be FUN......I wanted to go to the zoo this year too but we never made it........wanted to visit the new rainforest greenhouse they built too at one of them. Last time while at the zoo the monkies kept me totally entertained a while......oh my the things they do when they KNOW they have a captive audience. Some people were applauled and drug kids away fast. Too funny........doo-doo tossing eating and smeelling with a little yank-and-wacking inbetween watcher Pam  :o ::) :o

There really GROSS.................................... :P

Carrie...you lucky duck. I haven't been to the Philadelphia Zoo since I was a kid. Do they still have those elephant shaped keys? I remember when I finally got my key...I wore it around my neck for about a week before we left. Felt like a VIK (very important kid).

For those non-Philadelphians...the Schuylkill is the photogenic part of Philly.

I have lots of great memories of Skansen from my childhood... :) I'd love to go there again with you!
BTW, there's a zoo in Helsinki, too. ;)

That's Amy (my grand-little from SAI at Penn State), Nolan (Jared's little brother), and me :)
We're in the monkey house....no comments from the peanut gallery ;)

We had such a great day!!  Here's the link to the rest of the photos:

After the Zoo, Lisa, Dave, Nolan and I got Chinese and came back to my apartment to have dinner, look at old pictures, and catch up on a lot!

Miss Jared more and more...but I'm so glad I got to see them.  :)

Carrie :)
