Title: stereo speaker question......more digression...... Post by cootie on Sep 21st, 2005, 12:23pm Can I.......use sound around entertainment small speakers off a tv "on a stereo system" as the only speakers for outside ? (can they work for both....won't have em hooked up to a tv system this way....just a stereo....hope I am makeing sense here?) Thought I would ask before I RISK blowin up somethin. Am hooking up an extra stereo by the rec room slideing door to run speakers outside on the deck....but would rather hook up small good soundin ones to hang up outa the weather rather then drag BIG wooden ones in and out and set up for outside tunes. Speakers are small and say 8 ohm and max input power 20 W. Not sure what the stereo specs are......isn't it usually 20 watts per channel ? (has a cd player and cassett all separate and tuner.....) Electronically challenged Pam |

Title: Re: stereo speaker question......more digression.. Post by rextangle on Sep 21st, 2005, 12:54pm Look in the back of the amp on the stereo for output or in the manual. If you have more than 20W coming out as you are guessing, you will blow the little ones for sure. :o Test them first with Vivaldi, then AC/DC. In that order Or send me the brand and model number and I'll tell you what you need. |

Title: Re: stereo speaker question......more digression.. Post by cootie on Sep 21st, 2005, 1:01pm Thanks rex.....I think it's onea them 100 watt stereo's.....it's a Kenwood and says that on back ? So maybe it's not a good idea.......these little speakers may work more for one of the portable stereo's and cd players. Hate to blow em cuz they have good sound. I jus don't have room for all the speakers that came with the sound system.....3 was enuff. Maybe I'll jus go torture crickets instead Pam I have geckos and some others. |

Title: Re: stereo speaker question......more digression.. Post by rextangle on Sep 21st, 2005, 1:06pm You can get cheap outdoor speakers too at any electronic stores... (they're usually white and plastic made) When you say 100W.... is it per channel? Or total? 100 W often means 50W per channel, so double check! I've got a gecko too named Wiggy. (Day Gecko that is) Cheers, Rex |

Hey Pam... ok there is a few things to NOTE: 100 watts means the total wattage of the Unit.... If its says 100 watt Amp on the front..... But it is usually 50 watts per channel... It should have a hook up for A speakers & B speakers..... meaning each channel is 50 watts each... X2... means the unit is 100 watts..... Try to look on the back or in the manual and see what the wattage per channel is... usually they are almost all 8 ohms.... but it the wattage as Rex said... don't want to blow the speakers.... You can also, get a cheep outdoor mounted speakers (Small ones) for about $30 to $50 a pair at like Walmart... Its about double that if you to like Circuit City... Hope that helps..... Charlie |

Title: Re: stereo speaker question......more digression.. Post by ExplodingEyeBall on Sep 21st, 2005, 1:09pm Poof!!!!!!! I think that's what would happen. 8 ohm 20 W. max would almost surely get smoked by a Kenwood (or any other decent) home stereo system. Check out something like these. 8 ohms, 80 Watts. Not the best but suitable and a decent price. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=4489315&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03051&id=1051384854048 |

Title: Re: stereo speaker question......more digression.. Post by cootie on Sep 21st, 2005, 2:19pm Thanks guys......will check at Walmart for outdoor speakers MADE for a stereo and not blow these others. I blew a channel or WHATEVER on the one other older stereo we had hooked up to run speakers outside (big heavy clunky ones we had to drag in and out all the time).....I turned it up too loud for a song and after that the plug in didn't work for the cd player into the stereo. So much for that cool BBK song I wanted to hear at that moment loud. Think I blew a speaker too.....been a while. Blaster master Pam I have 3 leopard gecko's rex.......and a armidillo lizard and skink (not skank).....the skink is really friendly and eats outa yer hand and can carry her around. She's pouting rite now cuz she wanted out......I spoil everything. |
