Title: Re: Rita... Here we go again.... Post by BikerBob on Sep 19th, 2005, 2:49pm Don't worry about the one behind Rita, that's Phillipe and will stay out over the ocean. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/151443.shtml?5day Rita could become another killer. As shown in this graphic archive, when Katrina passed over south Florida it was a cat 1 with 75 mph winds. It grew to a cat 5 with 175 mph winds over the warm waters of the Gulf. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2005/KATRINA_graphics.shtml Rita will pass over south Florida Tuesday night as a cat 1 with 75+ mph winds just like Katrina did. It's headed straight for the warm waters of the Gulf where its expected to grow to 100+ mph winds in 72 hours. Its expected to hit the Gulf coast of Texas, where many of the Katrina victims are, on Friday night. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/153924.shtml?5day BB |

Title: Re: Rita... Here we go again.... Post by jcmquix on Sep 19th, 2005, 3:05pm Thats what I am worried about.. the Gulf temp is still above 90 around here.. so its even warmer south of us... The warmer water just gives them things more power... They are talking on the radio about a high pressure system that might be over Texas on Thurs & Fri... which might cause the thing to come right back at us or along those lines... Right now the computer models have it going everywhere.... Its a waiting game right now.... But if it starts going north in the Gulf it will strengthen.... Charlie |

God what a horror. When I was a kid, Hurricane Hazel in the fifties is the one that I remember the most. Not sure where it hit down south but it even floated a few docks down Chautauqua Lake here. Title: Re: Rita... Here we go again.... Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Sep 20th, 2005, 12:13am its so weird how phillipe is supposed to go far north, but Rita is supposed to go due west. Weird how mother nature works. For katrina, they said it would go north into the florida panhandle, but it ended up staying south and gained lots before turning north. The waters are very warm there, it is sure to strengthen. My thoughts go out to all down in hurricane land. BMonee |

NOT TRUE AGAIN Forecasting accuracy has improved by leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. Its just that people pay to much attention to that damn forecast track and aren't educated enough to look at the whole picture. I didn't mean to sound antagonistic before, If it came across that way I apologize. The point I was making is, If you're gonna live in a hurricane prone area BE PREPARED and then pray |

Title: Re: Rita... Here we go again.... Post by marlinsfan on Sep 20th, 2005, 7:21am I am no veteran, I've only been in Florida 7 years, but during that time I've never seen a storm deviate from the "cone of error". The issue is that the forecasters tend to put a line in the middle of the cone, and that's were people look. If the storm moves a bit off that line, then people say that they made a forecast error. The media has been drilling us since last year to look at the cone, not the line in the middle. If you're in the cone, you better get ready. We had a quiet night in Hollywood, a few gusts of wind, lots of rain. But the storm is staying well south of us. My shutters are up, and I'm at work already so I am not taking them down till probably tomorrow morning. We are now under a Tornado watch. The latest cone of error has the storm moving anywhere from the middle of Louisiana to just south of the Texas/Mexico border. Good luck to all. |

Funny thing is we still have not gotton any rain and we are way low for the summer.. so far.... karma.. I am not going to argue with you over the way the predict where the storms are going.... They Suck.... We can send a Probe across the universe, but they still can't tell you where the damn things are going to hit... Sorry......
