Title: Rita... Here we go again....
Post by jcmquix on Sep 19th, 2005, 10:32am
Mann.. this has been one heck of a Hurricane season...

The outdoor chairs are getting worn out, and not from sitting in them... Putting them up, taking them out, Putting them up....

Well I just hope that this on just runs out of steam in the Gulf.... I don't think anyone can handle anymore Hurricane's....

As this thing passes everyone check in, if anyone needs any help in Florida, we are in Bradenton... about 45 miles south of Tampa Bay.... Keepin our fingers crossed..

Everyone's in our Thought's and Prayer's

God Bless
Charlie

Edited to add: they just put us under Tropical Storm Warnings..

I don't like the looks of this at all.

Don't worry about the one behind Rita, that's Phillipe and will stay out over the ocean.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/151443.shtml?5day

Rita could become another killer. As shown in this graphic archive, when Katrina passed over south Florida it was a cat 1 with 75 mph winds. It grew to a cat 5 with 175 mph winds over the warm waters of the Gulf.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2005/KATRINA_graphics.shtml

Rita will pass over south Florida Tuesday night as a cat 1 with 75+ mph winds just like Katrina did. It's headed straight for the warm waters of the Gulf where its expected to grow to 100+ mph winds in 72 hours. Its expected to hit the Gulf coast of Texas, where many of the Katrina victims are, on Friday night.

Thats what I am worried about.. the Gulf temp is still above 90 around here.. so its even warmer south of us... The warmer water just gives them things more power...

They are talking on the radio about a high pressure system that might be over Texas on Thurs & Fri... which might cause the thing to come right back at us or along those lines... Right now the computer models have it going everywhere.... Its a waiting game right now....

But if it starts going north in the Gulf it will strengthen....

Stick to official information and if you live in a hurricane prone area learn how to be prepared.  Worrying does diddly! You can't change what will be but you can be prepared if the sh!t hits the fan

Thanks Karma.  That's a good graphic on Rita.  I hope it stays on that course.  NO, Biloxi, Gulfport, etc. absolutely cannot withstand another hit right now.

You FL folks - Please batten down your hatches and stay safe, you hear!  We need you guys.

Praying for the safety of all.

The bad news....
Just saw on the Weather Channel there is a mandatory evacuation on the Keys.

The good news.....
Tolls have been suspended on the bridges leading from the islands. This time the poor people can get away (if they walk fast enough).

The best news is.....
There is a dark complexioned lady reading the news and she is
a Hottie.

Hi JCM and all!  I was here before under the name of Apple, but couldn't sign on. Anyway, I'm under a Hurricane Watch at the moment due to Rita. How lovely! Had a migraine earlier, but Imitrex killed it! YES! I'm so freakin sick of this I can SCREAM! I've really had it. As soon as my husband retires, we're  OUTTA HERE! There are other difficulties in my area as well (long story). My area is a very stressful place to live for a variety of reasons. Fed up!  :-[

p.s. Sorry to come on board with such a grumpy message! I'm usually a little "lighter" than this!!!  ::) :P ;)

Clark (he's a meteorologist) said the one behind Rita is Philippe, and the one behind that is still just a disturbance, and then there's another one behind that again.  Those will become Stan and Tammy if they develop into tropical storms.

Wind is picking up here (hollywood, on the east coast of florida in Broward County). I just finished bringing my stuff in from the yard, and closing the shutters. It's already rained a lot.

I hope we don't lose power. We lost power with Katrina a couple of weeks ago, and it got HOT real fast inside the house.

Wish us luck.

Looks like when your season ends is when ours starts, we are not looking forward to it as the dry season in these parts has just been to typical for TC season with the sea warming up earlier than hoped and the hump back whales are on the move earlier than usual.
It's looking like we might get an early start and could be a long one.

Keep safe where you are and if you have to get out do it like you'r runnin from the demon.

I'm been watching this and they are on the ball this time. Looks like nobody will be allowed near this one.

God what a horror. When I was a kid, Hurricane Hazel in the fifties is the one that I remember the most. Not sure where it hit down south but it even floated a few docks down Chautauqua Lake here. We never get much more than a gale out of these things.

What a effen disaster in the making....  >:(

could come right up our butt. We are fairly safe from the killer part at 100 miles inland...40 miles N of Houston....lotta new cajun folks in town. If it hits Galv and goes up through Houston at the force of Katrina...Lord God yer talkin about a fuckin mess of dead and destructed!

Butt the Galveston folks are already talkin about buses for evacuation...that's the first time I ever heard them talk about buses in an evacuation...odd....I wonder why buses? Usually they just tell people what road to take and when....odd

Buyin water and supplies tomorrow.

My son is in Slidell/New Orleans  helping with the clean-up.  Says the contractor he's working under says another hit even close to Katrina and kiss the area goodbye.  There will be literally nothing left to rebuild.
Everyone out there who believes in the power of prayer now would be a good time to get on your knees.

its so weird how phillipe is supposed to go far north, but Rita is supposed to go due west.  Weird how mother nature works.
For katrina, they said it would go north into the florida panhandle, but it ended up staying south and gained lots before turning north.  The waters are very warm there, it is sure to strengthen.
My thoughts go out to all down in hurricane land.

NOT TRUE AGAIN
Forecasting accuracy has improved by leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. Its just that people pay to much attention to that damn forecast track and aren't educated enough to look at the whole picture.
I didn't mean to sound antagonistic before, If it came across that way I apologize.
The point I was making is, If you're gonna live in a hurricane prone area BE PREPARED and then pray

I am no veteran, I've only been in Florida 7 years, but during that time I've never seen a storm deviate from the "cone of error". The issue is that the forecasters tend to put a line in the middle of the cone, and that's were people look. If the storm moves a bit off that line, then people say that they made a forecast error.

The media has been drilling us since last year to look at the cone, not the line in the middle. If you're in the cone, you better get ready.

We had a quiet night in Hollywood, a few gusts of wind, lots of rain. But the storm is staying well south of us. My shutters are up, and I'm at work already so I am not taking them down till probably tomorrow morning. We are now under a Tornado watch.

The latest cone of error has the storm moving anywhere from the middle of Louisiana to just south of the Texas/Mexico border.

Good luck to all.

Well so Far the Sun is Shining, the winds have picked up a bit here... we are just north of the Tropical Storm Warning, but its getting really dark to the South of us...

They are saying on the radio that they are already getting high winds...to the south and its been raining almost 24 hrs down there.... Funny thing is we still have not gotton any rain and we are way low for the summer.. so far....

karma.. I am not going to argue with you over the way the predict where the storms are going.... They Suck....
We can send a Probe across the universe, but they still can't tell you where the damn things are going to hit...
Sorry......

We have the hatches battened down and are just waiting to see what happens next.....

Be Prepared

RITA IS MOVING WESTWARD OR 270 DEGREES AT 13 KNOTS SINCE IT IS ALREADY SOUTH OF A DEEP LAYER MEAN RIDGE.  THIS PATTERN IS FORECAST TO PERSIST FOR THE NEXT 24 TO 48 HOURS. THERAFTER...THE HIGH IS EXPECTED TO MOVE EASTWARD LEAVING A WEAKNESS OVER THE WESTERN GULF OF MEXICO. THIS FORECAST PATTERN SHOULD EVENTUALLY FORCE RITA
TOWARD THE NORTHWEST TOWARD THE TEXAS COAST.

THIS IS ONE THE CASES OF RELATIVELY HIGH CONFIDENCE IN THE TRACK FORECAST SINCE MOST OF
THE RELIABLE GUIDANCE ARE TIGHTLY CLUSTERED.
