Title: Beaufort SC
Post by cootie on Sep 13th, 2005, 5:58pm
Sorry for anouther unrelated thread....but does anyone know if this area is gettin slammed or effected by that new hurricane ? I've not heard from Brad since he got there but actually they were to be on an Island called Hunting Island a bit south. Has one way to get all the way out to this Island past lagoons and waterways. He should of got there this morning......not sure if they even let them in cuz I heard of mandatory evacuations in SC. Would imagine hotels would be booked cuz of locals and vacationers thinking ahead with this storm. Brad has his handicap mom and an older sister, niece with a new baby and husband and other nephew and wife there. I told him he was NUTS to leave and not wait a day or two.....they have the cabin for 2 weeks.....it's way out on the ocean too off the shore of the coast.  Just wonder'd if maybe there were in the cabin already with bad weather and cell phone won't work or what.....hopefully if so there ok or the rangers wouldn't of let them in unless they mentiond....at there own risk......(stuborn people his family is)...he's about a half hour from the  pay phone he uses when out on the beach. Sorry to ask. Concern'd citizen Pam  [smiley=huh.gif]

Pam I know how worried a person can get when you don't hear a word.  But don't panic yet.  You know the roads can be bad or something else that delayed them.  Just hang in there and I hope you hear from them soon.

Bo-Ford is way south, almost Georgia.  They might be getting rain, but the real storm is north of that.

Hi Coots, I agree with floridian.... Beaufort is south of the yellow zone on this map:

we had the first wave of heavy rains in Raleigh at about 2pm.  It hadn't rained in nearly a month, so it was still welcome.

THANKS guys.....I feel better now. And he just called briefly a bit ago and looks like your all rite he IS a bit south of the storm !!! Close enuff tho if ya ask me to of been concern'd about goin when they did. But anyhow.....he'd just found out Sunday around noon before they left his older sister invited her daugther and husband and new baby for the 2 week duration. Am sure they will get to stay free.......ok fine......neither works. (arghhh) But he just found out she also offer'd them his ROOM ! So he gets the couch after all he has done....I was pissed and he wasn't too happy. The baby has been a real fussy one day and nite (my kid was like that for 2 to 6 hours straight and not sumthin we wanna go thru again).......sucks to be him Pam  :P

Thanks for your help guys.......I was worried !!!! (now I'm kinda ticked off bout him and the room situation.....cabins have a bed room and small space or closet sized areas for sleeping more private but he gets the couch in the thick of things )

He should go get him an air mattress (spelling) and set up camp in the back of his truck!

No storm in Beaufort, SC.  My daughter lives in Bluffton, just off Hilton Head Island and just south of Beaufort - reporting rain only and some heavy surf yesterday.  My other daughter lives in Wilmington, NC - getting hit right now with very heavy rain and 70 mph gusts.  So any time there is a storm off the Carolina coasts, I watch closely.

By the way, just some trivia:  There are two Beauforts, one in NC and one in SC.  NC pronounces it as Bowfort (as in bow,) .  SC pronounces it as Bewfort (as in bew? - what's a bew?).  In my business I deal with people in both cities, and BOY, if I mispronounce their city, they get really peeved!

:-X
