Title: Incompetance!!!!!!!! Post by Redd715 on Sep 11th, 2005, 10:29pm Imagine this....your loved one is in a skilled nursing facility, and there has been a standing DPOA order for over 4.5 years and they transfer the patient to a hospital and fail to infom them that the patient is not compitant to refuse medical treatment and a DPOA is in place.... I find this out today...after chewing some ass I finally got them to understand that that Blue band on her wrist is NOT just a DNR request. Thay are to consult ME before any treatment for Mom is administered. Regardless of Doc orders, I have the first right of refusal per her wishes. So many treatments I was not aware of were administered arbitrarily without my concent. I'm sooooo pissed. To this moment every measure they took has done nothing but prolong the inevitable, and this is totally against Mom's wishes. WHere and who dropped the ball here? I blame the nursing home for not having that first and formost in her records to start with when they transfered her. "Dimentia Patient...DPOA Pegg Flick.XXX_XXXX" Fuckers!!!!!!!!!! |

Title: Re: Incompetance!!!!!!!! Post by BarbaraD on Sep 12th, 2005, 5:01am Pegg, I'm with you all the way.... Where the hell is the "SKILLED" nursing? One thing I did (just went thru this Friday) is go online and get the address and phone number of the State Nursing Commission and the State Nursing Home Association (You might get the State Hospital Association also) - Print it out in LARGE print. Then start getting LICENSE numbers along with names as listed on license of the nurses as well as the nursing home, the hospital and anyone else who pisses you off, while you're chewing them out! Write them on your print outs and make SURE they know what you're writing their names and license numbers on (thus the reason for the large print!). I don't know if they're required by law to give you the information, but found out Friday THEY don't know either and when I told them they were required to give me the information they DID. The best defense is a good OFFENSE! Anyhow, it's a damn shame that we can't TRUST people who are supposed to be caring for our loved ones, but we can't. I went thru the same thing with my mother in the hospital. Good luck honey and I hope things turn out ok for you. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Incompetance!!!!!!!! Post by Redd715 on Sep 12th, 2005, 6:26am Durable Power Of Attorney for healthcare. When a person is of sound mind they appoint who they choose to make healthcare decisions for them if for any reason they are no competant to do so for themselves. That person is then charged with following their wishes, either oral, written or implied. |

Title: Re: Incompetance!!!!!!!! Post by Ree on Sep 12th, 2005, 6:59am Welcome to the first part of my year Redd... you should call me also. There are several infections that people of advanced age contract. My father ended up dying from an infection MRSA... look into it and if visitors have to scrub up before they visit others there, you want that patient/resident as far away from your mom as possible..... email me at Ree16angel@aol.com if you want to talk parents..... God bless... be a squeaky wheel let them know you ARE NOT taking any shit when it comes to the care of your parent. Sometimes they write them off. It pisses me off to no end..... Ree |
