Title: It's either blow here or Kill someone...... Post by BarbaraD on Sep 10th, 2005, 8:42am As most of you you know, hubby Bill has been very ill since about June. Now they've put him in a "Skilled Nursing Facility" to regain some strength until he came return home in a few weeks. WELLLLLL, first of all they transported him over there without his clothes....., but after a fashion I FOUND his damn clothes. Then yesterday (hell day for everyone), I had a 4 year old who couldn't go to school cause he'd been throwing up the day before. (Granny told him he wasn't allowed to be sick when he was with her and thank goodness he believed her and was his normal hyper self all day), I get to the SNF and find Bill writhering in pain - seems they FORGET to send an order for his meds also and he'd been without them for approximately 24 hours and my son forgot to tell me he'd already checked on this one (no one told me about it the night before!). I go to the nurses station (I'm still in "nice mode" here) and ask about it. The cop an attitude and tell me the only thing that has been ordered is antibiotics - I explain nicely that he's on some things that can cause sieizures if he doesn't get them. One thing and another. Caleb (4 year old) and I return home and GET the damn medicine and I make them a list and we go back. I GIVE him his noon doses and get him calmed down and go BACK to the nurses station (still in "fairly nice mode") and give them his med list and ASK them to notify doc STAT to get his meds on the chart and tell them what I've given him. THEY throw a fitt and tell ME I CANNOT give him medication! That's when the "mode" changes" to "not nice". They tell me they'll fax the med list to the doc and get it straight. So he's had his noon meds, Caleb and I go to Walmart, do our grocery shopping, go get his dad a birthday present, come home, cook dinner, fix Papaw a plate and go back for "dinner meds" to find out THEY still haven't gotten anything done!!!!!! "Bad attitude" takes over and Granny cleans her off a spot at the nurses station and throws a wall-eyed fitt! Papaw is calmly eating his dinner we brought and laughing cause he knows we're GOING to get it straight before the sun goes down. Well, the administrator was called in and Granny had a rear chewing with her and she was apologizing profusly, but Granny wasn't in the mood for an apology - she wanted action and NOW! The administrator called the D O N (who had been there at noon when all this BEGIN) and chewed her out -- the D O N called the charge nurse (who had coped an attitude with me a few minutes before) and I was still steaming about "abuse" of the elderly and something about trying to kill Bill. And where was the "skilled nursing". And I was NOT raising my voice (this is when I get dangerous - my son was getting worried about WHAT I was going to do next). About an hour later, the doctor had been CALLED (imagine that invention called a telephone being used - the administrator had to tell the damn nurses about it!) and gave the order for Bill's meds and then they used the telephone again and got the drug store to DELIVER the meds STAT and since it was going to take a couple of hours, they came to me and asked if they could "borrow" his evening pills so he would be on schedule. Jonny I thought I was gonna have to borrow your boot to kick some rears, but my 5 1/2 tennis shoe worked fine this time. The good news thru the whole day is I didn't get hit with CH until last night after I calmed down. So I guess the Bob G is right - stay stresses - never relax... Hugs BD |

Title: Re: It's either blow here or Kill someone...... Post by Karla on Sep 10th, 2005, 9:42am ah hon so sorry you are going through this. My grandfather was in a nursing home for 10 years before we finally got a dr that agreed with our wishes to pull out the feeding tube. He was a vegetable after a stroke. They said with meds and rehabilitation he would do good. Well there were always under or over medicating him. Grandma would come over and find him laying naked on the floor. All his teeth rotted out and feel out because they didn't take care of that. We filed a formal chart or complaint with the state on 2 nursing homes before we found a third that was good. Grandma went everyday to make sure things were on schedule on time. Don't be afraid to be assertive and kick but in these situations. We are the only ones they have to advocate for them. Stay strong! |

Title: Re: It's either blow here or Kill someone...... Post by cootie on Sep 10th, 2005, 1:39pm Ya know.....that just really SUCKS......luckily he had someone like you to GET 'R DONE.....but what about the people no one bothers about with details and just says fuck it cuz they know they ain't goin anywhere and will make it thru the nite miserably.....who cares attitude pisses me off in places like that where yer sent to be CARED FOR one on one and all details attended to like meds ect. Brad's sister wanted them to send his mom to a home verses share the care.......but he fought it and arranged for an older sister to buy the house cheap and fix it up. She quit her job and cares for her 24/7.....in a home it'd be harder to keep track.....and am sure his other sisters and brother wouldn't give a shit anyhow. Sacrey too cuz it could happen to any of us someday. These boots were made for kickin some ass Pam |

I'm glad things are looking better but I have a feeling that I'd be doing time if that had happened here. Lots of property damage to say the least. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/bat.gif What's sad is that this shit happens all the time. It's times like this that knowing a Tony Soprano type would be handy. http://www.kolobok.wrg.ru/smiles/personal/triniti.gif?SSImageQuality=Full Charlie |

Title: Re: It's either blow here or Kill someone...... Post by BarbaraD on Sep 10th, 2005, 5:52pm What a difference a day makes ::). I just got back from spending the afternoon with Bill and everyone was so attentative to us. Even Ms Attitude Nurse from yesterday let me know his meds arrived safely last night and they were being given at the times I told them to give them and he was eating better (gee one of the pills was for his APPETITE - imagine that!). And he had had his Aricept so he actually knew what planet he was on ... gee whiz guys!!! Anyhow, I got his skinny rear out of bed and told him not to get too comfortable there. Took him outside for a ride in the "fresh air" and told him to start getting some strength back cause I had a whole list of "honey do's" for him at home. After several hours of keeping him up (the poor guy hasn't been out of bed over an hour since around the first of July) I let him get back in bed and gave him back his O2. His color looked a lot better and he was smiling (first time in a long time). Maybe we're on the road to recovery. Anyhow I feel better about him now. Maybe my little temper tandrum yesterday, at least, will get him better treatment. And yes, it is a damn shame that people are treated this way. If you don't have someone there pushing for you - they can just kill you and no one cares. Hospitals are just as bad. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: It's either blow here or Kill someone...... Post by BobG on Sep 10th, 2005, 7:30pm "I am woman, hear me roar." You go Barbara! Sorry to hear Bill is so sick. I think you did him a lot of good by getting him up and moving. Laying in bed too long only leads to more laying in bed. Not good. Get him up. Make him move. Hope he can go home real soon. A hospital is not a good place for a sick person to be (or a healthy one either). |

Title: Re: It's either blow here or Kill someone...... Post by sandie99 on Sep 11th, 2005, 11:08am Barbara, I'm so sorry you had to face that... I'm so glad that things are better now. :) I've noticed that being FIRM indeed does help! I hope that Bill will be treated extra well from now on! Good that ch let you handle things in PF mode. But having an attack combined with your attitude... what a scary sight that would have been! ;;D Best wishes, Sanna :) |
