Title: Re: WSB is doing a story on that email! Post by LadyElaine on Sep 7th, 2005, 12:03pm When we were all looking for Edna and Steve I posted on some of the websites Ednas name and my phone number and email. A man called me Sunday and said he had her/him and that she/he was very sick and I needed to send him money for medical care. He also sent me a email. I posted it Sunday. I called the police and gave them the email. WSB called wanting to do a story on it this moring. I live so far away from Atlanta it will more than likely be tomorrow before they interview me. I think its a shame people would do this kind of thing. |

Title: Re: WSB is doing a story on that email! Post by cootie on Sep 7th, 2005, 8:18pm Anyone know anything about collection agencies type places edicat ? (spelling......arghhh) Nothing I did wrong......a stores automatic check machine supposidly messed up where they do the check process automatically rite then. Called 'Teli-Check'.....the machine got my addy, name phone number and date and number of the check but supposidly didn't get my check or banks routeing number ?? I remember the machine gave this young girl a problem that day and she gave me the check back I think when done and should of kept it since it messed up. Anyhow.......I didn't know anything went wrong till I got a call EVERY FRICKIN DAY at 8:48 am for weeks....then they started in twice a day. The company callin was from Pakistan or sumwhere and we couldn't even understand what they wanted or who they were callin for. Brad blew up on em several times and cussed em out and hung up cuz they could not talk well enuff to EXPLAIN what they wanted and jus kept jabbering something reeeeferrrrrink twoooooooo cheeeeeeek noon-blar @#$% ?? When he got mad and said he didn't understand em and got pissed they hung up on him a few times which didn't sound too official. Then they had some other lady or man call that sounded like an African tribe leader or princess of the Nile. They wanted my bank info and we wouldn't give it esp over the phone to these guys. I asked the store about them and they never heard of em but I did go back and noticed they did have a teli-check machine that did automated check stuff. (stuff goes thru your account instantly deal) I think the new manager didn't know much yet. So then this unprofessional teli-check agency keeps calling askin me if I talked to the manager or sumone that didn't know anything and was stupid ? Huh ? Then they started callin askin for Brad only and when I asked what it was about (I recognized the man's voice or accent) they said it was finacial and 'hung up' on me !? Then the lady called and got Brad later in the day (8:48 pm....always that same exact time am or pm) and said they called my bank and the bank told them I had insufficient funds so guess they figured we was duckin me now. That is totally wrong.....the check in question is only for 36 bucks and I have whatever money we have in there. That was a total lie !!! Anyone have a clue on RIGHTS with this sort of deal......while were on the subject of shyster phone calls. Didn't mean to hijack this thread tho......these people are makein me nervous. Games people play Pam |

Title: Re: WSB is doing a story on that email! Post by Redd715 on Sep 7th, 2005, 8:27pm Pam hun....call me.... I know FDCPA and FCRA like the back of my hand.... I'll PM you my number.... |
||
Title: Re: WSB is doing a story on that email! Post by cootie on Sep 7th, 2005, 9:42pm Opps sorry....got back on here too late......thought I should go sit with Brad for an hour and give him some quality time watchin tv. I am jus baffled over the agency's unprofressionalism calling me and how they are handleing it. There machine messes up and the clerk messes up but they are harrassing us. Not to mention off to a bad start with the Pakastan accents Pam They haven't called in 3 days so figure they got sumthin else up there sleeve. I'd rather the store the bad transaction happend at call me and explain and tell me what to do rather then this foreign place. I did get a letter months ago sayin it was based in Calif but we didn't understand it and neither did the store it was about when I took it in for the manager to look over. |

Title: Re: WSB is doing a story on that email! Post by LadyElaine on Sep 8th, 2005, 7:29am ROTFLMAO Edna and Bob ! Its a good thing you reminded me. Now if the dogs and Jd will just be good today! My fears ....the cat will throw up, the dogs, will not stop barking. JD might sing the Butter Bean song, or worst. I might start coughing durning the interview. |
||
Title: ;;D Post by cootie on Sep 8th, 2005, 9:04am Geeze sounds like my house......minus the butter bean song........just add jehoval witness or the creepy sweeper sales people dropping in. And I'd hve 5 cats barfing at ramdon and 17 dogs barking. The chihuahua barks go rite thru you. Give him a beer when he walks in the door and toss the dogs a chewie and the cats a few live mice from the pet store. Get the baby a new DVD.......simple as that it's not Pam Good luck with the interview.......am sure your sweet personality will win them over before the sidekicks cause any disruptions ! |

Title: Re: WSB is doing a story on that email! Post by Svenn on Sep 8th, 2005, 9:24am http://www.presstelegram.com/Stories/0,1413,204~21474~3044558,00.html# :Nation: FBI puts number of Katrina-related Web sites at '2,300 and rising.' FBI puts number of Katrina-related Web sites at '2,300 and rising.' By Tom Zeller Jr. By Tom Zeller Jr. The New York Times Even as millions of Americans rally to make donations to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the Internet is brimming with scams, come-ons and opportunistic pandering related to the relief effort in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. And the scams are more varied and more numerous than in past disasters, according to law enforcement officials and online watchdog groups. Florida's attorney general has already filed a lawsuit alleging fraud against a man who mounted one of the earliest networks of Web sites katrinahelp.com, katrinadonations.com and others which purported to collect donations for victims of the storm. In Missouri, a much wider constellation of Internet sites with names like parishdonations.com and katrinafamilies.com displayed pictures of the flood-ravaged South and drives traffic to a single site, InternetDonations.org, a nonprofit entity with apparent links to white supremacist groups. The registrant of those Web sites was sued by the state of Missouri on Wednesday for violating state fundraising law and for "omitting the material fact that the ultimate company behind the defendants' Web sites supports white supremacy.' Late Wednesday afternoon, the FBI put the number of Web sites claiming to deal in Katrina information and relief some legitimate, others not at "2,300 and rising.' Dozens of suspicious sites claiming links to legitimate charities are being investigated by state and federal authorities. Also under investigation are e-mail spam campaigns using the hurricane as a hook to lure victims to give up credit card numbers to thieves, as well as phony hurricane news sites and e-mail "updates' that carry malicious code designed to hijack a victim's computer. "The numbers are still going up,' said Dan Larkin, the chief of the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center in West Virginia. Larkin said that the amount of suspicious, disaster-related Web activity is higher than the number of scams seen online after last year's tsunami in Southeast Asia. "We've got a much higher volume of sites popping up,' he said. The earliest online scams began to appear within hours of Katrina's passing. "It was so fast it was amazing,' said Audri Lanford, co-director of ScamBusters.org, an Internet clearinghouse for information on various forms of online fraud. "The most interesting thing is the scope,' she said. "We do get a very good feel for the quantity of scams that are out there, and there's no question that this is huge compared to the tsunami.' By the end of last week, Lanford's group had logged dozens of Katrina-related scams and spam schemes. The frauds ranged from opportunistic marketing (one spam message offered updates on the post-hurricane situation, with a link that led to a site peddling Viagra) to messages purporting to be from victims, or families of victims. "This letter is in request for any help that you can give,' reads one crude message that was widely distributed online. "My brother and his family have lost everything they have and come to live with me while they looks for a new job.' Several anti-virus software companies have warned of e-mail "hurricane news updates' that actually lure users to Web sites capable of infecting computers with a virus that allows hackers to gain control of their machines. And numerous scammers have seeded the Internet with e-mail phishing messages that purport to be from real relief agencies, taking recipients to what appear to be legitimate Web sites, where credit card information is collected from unwitting victims who think they are donating to the cause. On Sunday, the Internet security company Websense issued an alert regarding a phishing campaign that lured users to a Web site hosted in Brazil and was designed to look like a page operated by the Red Cross. Users who submitted their credit card numbers, expiration dates, and PIN numbers via the Web form were then redirected to the legitimate Red Cross Web site, making the ruse difficult to detect. The security company Sophos warned of a similar phishing campaign on Monday. "They're tugging at people's heartstrings,' said Tom Mazur, a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service. Mazur indicated that there were "a number of instances that we're looking into with this type of fraud, both domestically and overseas,' but he would not provide specifics. Svenn |
