Title: Lasik Eye surgery.........
Post by Woobie on Sep 6th, 2005, 5:03pm
Anyone had Lasik Eye surgery????

recommend or no?

I know this has nothing to do with CH - but I thought I would ask the family before i go letting someone mess with my eyes.

I have images of some alien movie where someones laying on a table strapped down and this big needle comes out of the ceiling and goes right into the center of the eye.   What movie was that from??

For people who've had it - did you have trouble letting something come at your eye like that??    I cant even put eye drops in my eyes........ and never have worn contacts because I cant put anything near my eyes without it shutting automatically.    Would this be a problem????

im skirred! [smiley=pokeeye.gif]

It worked for Tiger Woods and a few others on the PGA tour - Vijay Singh as well, I believe.

Tina - my girlfriend's son had it done and his only complaint was night driving when he said it was a little like seeing haloes around the oncoming car lights.  Other than that, he's been very happy with his results.  He had it done about 4 or 5 years ago.

Hope that helps.

Carol

I have not had it, but I have had a doc trying to pick a piece of metal out of my eye with a needle. THIS IS NOT FUN!

The second time it happened the needle would not get it, so he used a fast spinning small brush (kinda like a grinder) which had me ready to kill him. I could not feel a thing but it was so fucked up I was freaking.

He kept telling me to keep my eye open and looking to the left, I kept thinking "Im going to kill you" ;;D

But thats NOT what your asking about, Babe....My partners kid had it done and said it was no big deal.

I know several people who've had it done with great success!

I'm saving the money from can refunds so I can get it done, too.  Of course by the time I save enough, insurance will either pay for it or it will be replaced by something even more advanced and more expensive.

Oh .... to wake up and be able to see ANYTHING without those darned contacts!

Hey woobs....how's it going?

I had the Lasik done last Wednesday, and I love it.  Took about three minutes for him to get it done, and I'm still in the don't get around dust and don't wear makeup stage.

I went with the monovision.....because of my advanced age..... ;;D.  If I don't like it this way, they can always fix it for total nearsightedness.

It was totally painless, and I could see immediately after he said please sit up.

I LOVE IT!!

If you want to talk.....just give me a call.

Love,
T  8)

I know quite a few people(including my cousins) who have had it done and if I ever win the lottery I plan to as well.  Everyone is very pleased with the outcome.

I have heard of successes.   I have also heard horror stories, my own sister being one of them.  A lot depends on how your own body develops scar tissue.  Me....  I can always buy new glasses or contacts... I can never replace my eyes if they mess up.   In our building last Friday-  the power went down.. the plastic surgeon from next door came over and asked to borrow any flashlights we had as he was in the middle of a boob job when the lights went out  :o
for My eyes..  I'll wear glasses thanks.  jmho

Never had anything like it but PLEASE make sure you have 700 opinions before the surgery. There is too much surgery of all kinds going on.

I've not heard of bad things about it though. Jamestown has a hospital that has a good reputation for eye surgery.

Good luck kid.

I had just recently talked with a good friend of our family, an 83 yr old retired nurse, about that surgery.  She actually had it done a couple years ago, but it was just to make her eyesight a bit better (she has glasses).  She said that if you're doing it just to not have to wear glasses, then it's not something to get done.  Otherwise, it's a good surgery.

I already decided last year that I'm not going to get it myself.  I don't mind wearing glasses anymore and I've had them since I was 8 yrs old.  My eyesight is so bad that it'd be fruitless.  I'd probably have to have corrective surgery every few years or so. :-/

Glad to hear you're at least getting some opinions Tina!

Hi Tina,

A guy I work with had it done. He said it was a piece of cake and well worth it. Everything is crystal clear now. Before the surgery he couldn't see anything clear without his coke bottle glasses. Good luck if you decide to go for it.

A Good surgery? Woobs. That's like a safe dose of radiation, or a practical lobotomy. Crank up that Visa card, and have at it, lass. With any luck, even Ramon and me'll start looking good.
Shit.

Woobs, had it done about 6 yrs ago or so. Best advice, is once you decide to get it done, make sure it's with a very reputable doctor.

I had worn glasses since 5th grade. Couldn't see my glasses in front of me to put em on even, that's how blind I was.

Wore contacts for years, and then after child birthing years, had nothing but trouble with wearing contacts....eye infection after eye infection.

Well, my sis calls one day and asks would I like to go to a seminar about lasik at the eye doctor we both visit. So I said yeah, what the hell. Well, we get there they show a film and the doc is there for questions and answers. Right after the film was over, we looked at each other and she asked....What you think??......After seeing the gruesome film, I felt just like you.....there ain't NO WAY they doing that shit to MY EYE.

Well, everyone there had their name put into a drawing to get one eye done for free. At that time the cost of the surgery was $2000 an eye.

GUESS WHO'S NAME THEY PULLED???????

Yep, you got it......ME

I took one look at my sister, and she said......You go, I go, we're in this together. So we both stepped up to the desk and scheduled our surgeries for the same day.

All I can say.......Valium rocks!!!    hehehehehehe

It wasn't really bad at all. The MINUTE I got up from the table I could see, it was a bit fuzzy and somewhat picky, but nothing bad at all.

And afterwards, you come home and sleep all day. By the time you wake up, the picking feeling is gone.

These are the things I appreciated sooooo very much afterwards..........waking up and being able to read the time on the alarm clock without having to have it up to my nose...........walking into a room without fog on my glasses preventing me from seeing..............being able to walk in a drizzle or rain without needing windshield wipers............being able to wear regular sunglasses..........laying in bed to watch tv and it's OK to fall asleep while watching............seeing better while driving during the daytime and knowing that I can see a whole lot better since I'm not limited with a range of where I can see like with glasses........being able to put on my makeup without having to have my nose pressed against the mirror..........being able to SEE what my haircut is looking like WHILE they are cutting instead of after when I put my glasses on to find out it looks like crap........get the idea???

Of course, don't be fooled, some people don't have great success. Their is always a risk and that is something personal you will have to think about.

Hope I helped you out, and if not please let me know or call. I've pm you my number in case you lost it.

Love and luck to you
hugs,
EDNA               OH, and Tracy, wishing you great luck with yours too
