Snapt,

Strenious exercise at the first sign of an attack works as an abortive for many people.  Some run, some bicycle, some do squats,push-ups, jumping jacks.  Whether it's due to a redirection of blood flow, release of endorphins or increased O2 intake is still up for debate but it does work for many.

During my cluster 4 years ago, I aborted over 60 attacks within 10 minutes using the technique.

Nither does Snapt.  His streneous exercise of choice is a bullworker.  I know a guy who uses a stationary bike to good results.  I did squats until my thighs burned.

When I first signed the Guestbook here, about 6 years ago, the guy who signed just before me said that running up the hill behind his house aborted his attacks.  He'd been running up that hill for 20 years.

You guys are getting a little trigger happy here.  Maybe you should go make fun of those people who claim that eating mushrooms will stop your clusters?

edited to change things to thighs (the burning thing was taken care of by penicillin)

Ditto from me, snapt.

To the trigger happy bunch:  think of the hurt you can cause someone who posts here for the first time and is immediately attacked.  Is this being supportive to other sufferers?  Shame on you, where is your sense of decency?  I doubt that you'd want your children to read some of the vile postings that I've read when you are attacking those you label as "Trolls".  I think that if there weren't some Trolls around you'd invent one-those threads get more responses than any other threads and they degenerate into a deluge of disgusting, filthy, obscene language-from men and women-to the point of pathology.

Hi Snapt,

Thanks so much for sharing your success with us.  Glad to hear you've found something that helps you!  Aerobic exercise does help a lot of people.  You might be a really good candidate for oxygen therapy if you're one of the lucky ones that this kind of treatment (oxygenating the blood like you're doing) helps.  Keep us posted.

Bullworker = http://www.thebullworker.com/

And here's that guy's post from the archives:

Quote:
I'm 78 and have suffered with cluster headaches since I was around 31 years old. In the early days, doctors didn't seem to understand them. There was little one could do but suffer. If I had not been a Christian and had a family, I would never have reached 40. Then one night I got so mad that I ran up this steep hill behind my house. When I reached the top, I noticed that the headache was gone. I've been running that hill for 25 or 30 years whenever I get a cluster headache, and it works. Now, I am thankful to my VA doctor, Barbara L. Murphy, at the VA Clinic in Sayre, PA., where I went at the onset of my last season of headaches. She put me on the right dosage of Prednisone, and I didn't have to go through the whole season. I have gone as long as two years between seasons. But usually I have one or two seasons of headaches a year.

I see no evidence that snapt is a troll; snapt does not seem to be selling bullworkers, nor doe he/she seem to be trying to start a conflict.

By the way, the definition of "troll" is someone who posts messages on the Internet in order to foster conflict.  We really don't get too many true trolls here - we get a few snake oil salesmen, and a fight sometimes breaks out when they try to defend their scams, but they are not trolls, just greedhead not a very nice persons too stupid to go away when exposed.

snapt found that using a bullworker - an exercise device - can abort headaches. This is nothing new or strange. Though the bullworker seems to be more about strength training than aerobics, I'm sure it will get you breathing hard.  There are many reports of strenuous excercise aborting an attack. This website's archives are full of rational discussions about it.

I think a lot of you folks owe snapt an apology. And you owe the rest of us an apology as well - snapt could well have become a valuable member of the clusterhead family. But I see snapt made just one post, and I doubt we will see another.

Snapt - If by chance you're still reading this board, please hang around. Try posing discussions about treatments in the "Medications, treatments and threrapies" section. There is a generally lower level of ignorance and rudeness there.

-tommyD

And, yes, on this one I am agreeing with Bob P!

TommyD, I respectfully have to disagree with you...

First of all, he posted on the General Board, and secondly, he mentioned the product by name and said that it quelled the beast "every time".  And as long as you are bringing up rudeness, his "fukit" remark isn't exactly inviting polite responses.

Title: Re: try this works 4 me
Post by tommyD on Sep 6th, 2005, 5:30pm
It's understandable, Pattik, given the need to defend against scams and disruption. And that was a clumsy post by snapt, though we can't expect newbies to understand the kinds of language to avoid.  But I still don't see much evidence of trollism, or of snake oil - snake oil sellers usually avoid naming their oil at first. And maybe it does work for him (her?) every time (though that would be unique in CH history!)

Quote:
iv tried going into detail bout how this came about but fukit lets get it to the people in pain.

The "fukit" was self-referential, far as I can tell; he's swearing at himself for wasting time on details.

And snake oil sellers usually have better grammar and sentence construction (they are in the sleaziest end of the advertising business).

I'm all for bashing snake oil sellers and true (fight-starting) trolls. Got to be careful with that trigger-finger. A little reflection and a second read, while remembering we cannot read tone in a text message, can work wonders.

Yeah but ya know what.....if the snap-on-he-she-it person posted again sayin they weren't sellin shit and it was just an idea and sounded like a troll....and it all came out wrong.....and laughed at itself/himself/herself things would be cool......and they'd probly end up most popular on here within a week. That's all it takes......everyone is just reacting to the pecking order laws of nature. Flamed until proven inoscent Pam

(but alot of times they come back bashin and name calling with alot of product name dropping to the end)

Quote:
he mentioned the product by name

Yep he called it a bullworker but described something else.  You can see what a bullworker is in the link I put in my post above.  Snapt goes on to describe one of those big springs with the bicycle grips on either end that you bend into a horseshoe shape.  I doubt he's selling anything other than some med free pain relief.  Too bad it won't completely stop a cluster cycle like some other alternative treatments will but it's still an option.

Snapt - pay no attention to the meegrainers!  WDGCH
(oops, is that trolling?)

Title: Re: try this works 4 me
Post by tommyD on Sep 6th, 2005, 8:52pm
Yeah, you're right, Pam, it's the laws of human nature. But some folks won't come back when it seems to them they are being attacked out of the blue; can't say as I blame them. Folks need to know to lurk and get a feel for a board before posting, but fitting in or being popular shouldn't be a requirement for finding or sharing relief from the Beast.

This should all be about beating the Beast, so let's go easy on the newbies, 'kay guys?

I agree with tommyD and BobP on this one. Did I really just say that about BobP;-)? I didn't see snapt being a troll. I think this individual was explaining how vigorous exercise helps to abort or alleviate this person's attacks and just so happens to use a bullworker in his arsenal. Many folks have reported vigorous aerobics to be helpful at the onset of an attack, whether it be due to redirection of bloodflow, higher uptake in oxygen levels, etc. Come on back snapt and share your experiences. If you're a troll, the troll hunters will seek you out, but I don't think you are and it was a case of mistaken identity.

And for BobP.....why would you suggest making fun of people using shrooms for cluster treatment;-)? LOL

Poor dude was just trying to share with us what works for him.  If he was trying to sell something, he would have posted a link to a website.  He even goes so far as to take a shot at Glaxo (proof that he's a pissed off clusterpeep at the money we spend at Glaxo).  Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Innocent until proven guilty is for crimes in a court of law

And, no other troll has ever taken a shot at the pharmas by saying their cure was a way of taking a nip out of the pharma's or freeing yourself from the pharma's. It's often the most common M.O. isn't it?

I don't care if he was or wasn't -- as someone suggested -- this is a forgiving bunch -- it's been done before. There's more out there today to feel sad and bad about than this.
