Title: Another way to help the refugees! Post by LadyElaine on Sep 3rd, 2005, 7:31am We have filled out forms and put our names on list to house refugees of Katrina. I homeschool and a law firm called HSLDA has asked for help in placing others that home school. The best way to put your name on a list is call your local red cross or your county. They do ask that you help with getting them to you, a plane ticket bus ticket or pick them up. Right now I think I have a Mom and two children coming. I have to find another full size bed. Anyone got a bed for sale? Oh and they ask if you can help them find a job. I can't help but worry about these people. It breaks my heart every time I turn on the TV. |

Title: Re: Another way to help the refugees! Post by BlueMeanie on Sep 3rd, 2005, 12:51pm That is such a great thing you're doing Elaine. You sure are a kind/caring person. :) We've had a guest that was on the streets that we took in 5 months ago. He got a job and was doing pretty good getting his life back to normal. Lately he has been going back to his old self, and unfortunately it is coming to an end. I had to informed him it's time to move on. I guess you can only do so much to help some people. I just hope it works out for you and everyone involved as it's not going to be easy. |

Title: Re: Another way to help the refugees! Post by LadyElaine on Sep 3rd, 2005, 2:18pm I haven't done it yet. I signed up to do it. What they do is send you informtion about them and you call them, email them go meet them. Then you decide if you want them living with you. Your able to say what you expect of the people. They have to agree. I expect people to carry their own weight. Keep their rooms clean help out at meal time. I expect them to work. My Husband and Deveny will help them find work. I will help with the children. I also will let them bring their pets. |
