Title: Relief Mission ... (updated 9/9/05 10am) Post by jcmquix on Sep 2nd, 2005, 9:29pm HI All !!! I need some help and some advise !!! Please bear with me.. as I do not really know everyone here by Screen Names and/or names.... Most will know who I am refering to and/or if you want to add something, please do.... Our Church is sending a Bus (about a 60 passenger) towards N.O., or as far as they can get to the Disaster Area. We are going to stock it with mostly Bottled Water and Canned Meats. The idea is that we are going to drop the supplies off to any area they are needed, then on the return trip they are planning on bringing back Mothers & their Children. We are working with the Red Cross in about 5 counties here in Florida, they told our Church that if we bring them back, they will give them everything they need, from a place to stay to all the needs for them & their children. It will be a fresh start. Is what I am looking for is any information from people who are there and possibility of even setting up a meeting or pick up point. They are going to leave Florida on Tuesday Night 9/6/05. PLEASE !! Redneck, Delta Darlin, Edna, Texas Bass Lady... anyone who is in or near that location... Anyone please IM me I will give you my phone #, or I will call you at my cost.... We are just tired of sitting on our hands.... PLEASE HELP !!!!!! Charlie |

Heard people were chasein busses beatin on em with a stick or whatever wanting to leave with it but no more room.......people are gettin despret with car jackings and rapes and people gettin shit stolen they aren't wearin or able to hang on to. Seems the routy's are havein fun playin TERRORIST burnin stuff and shootin at cops and tearin up the town. Can't believe what I am hearing and seeing on the news. Animal instincts Pam You guys are saints to do what yer doin.......just be careful K ??? Lot of angry people and mob action goin on......bad and sad situation. I hope were done with hurricanes for a while !!!? PS: A truck driver came in to Brad's shop to deliver some stuff and told him he had a hell of a time gettin home from down south. Said no gas stations were open in the SC areas he went thru.....all ran out !!! Not sure where else that applies......but sumthin to think about. Brad has a family vacation planned soon in lower part of NC......he's a bit concern'd about the gas situation and if it will get worse. Wouldn't wanna get stranded and no way to get to yer destination or turn round and go back home !!!! I'd PANIC !!! |

Post by deltadarlin on Sep 3rd, 2005, 5:51pm Charlie and Jolene, I really can't be of help here as I don't know who to contact and jimbo is at more or less a *base* camp where they are shipping supplies out of. You probably won't get very far if you're trying to get into New Orleans, sections of I-10 still are not driveable and they won't let people into the city at all. What I would suggest that the church do is have your local Red Cross (or Salvation Army) and ask where you could go to be of the most help and where there might be families in need of homes for now. It is a not only a dangerous situation, it is a deadly situation with people being attacked with no provocation, let alone if you have something people are desperate for. There are NO refugee camps around those areas of New Orleans. Anything coming out of that area is being sent up to Baton Rouge before being moved on out. Please reconsidere this. 'darlin |

Post by jcmquix on Sep 3rd, 2005, 6:29pm Well I wish I could in a way get them to reconsider doing this, but the church feels there is a need.... and a calling from God to help these people... We are working with the local Red Cross, but I think they have less information than we do... I have a few Emails from people in Miss., so I think that is where they are going to go, somewhere around Beloxuie (Spelling) where the Gambling boats were...We have information that there are people who turned their own homes into shelters, and need supplies... They may have as many as 30 Women & Children who want to leave and possibility of finding relatives here in Fla and around the country, that will take them in.. Basically all the need is a way out of there. Thank You for your information and concern, there is going to be about 10 people making the trip on each bus, they are only going to stop in locations where the Red Cross is and/or locations where they have setup a Drop off and/or Pick up point. So I think as long as they follow the direction of the Red Cross they will be ok... Prayers & Thought's for You both Thanks Again Charlie |

I-10 is damaged and the twin spans are out of commission. If you try to go to New Orleans, you will be stopped by the police and told to leave. What you might want to do is have your local Red Cross contact the Jackson MS Red Cross and get info from them. I wouldn't advise traveling across I-90 or I-10 as they still don't know how bad either is damaged. God will take care of you, but God also gives us common sense to know our own limits and what we consider reasonable things. Carolyn |

From what has been decided today is that they are going to Miss. the local Red Cross is going to direct them once they get there and at this moment are trying to locate people who want to get out of the area, and come to Fla. Got ahold of the Local Radio and TV News stations and they said that call them on the return trip and let them know how many people we have and they would help, along with the Red CRoss in getting people a place to stay for awhile. We are now going to have to start the process of getting these people help once we get them here, but Thanks to alot of Churches in the area, I think we will have plenty of help. Thanks to All for the Prayers and Support !!! It looks like so far we have atleast 2 (60 passenger) Busses and 1 (16 passenger) Van.... I just ask that everyone keep Praying for us... !!! At this moment we have I know of Our Church Bus and a 16 passenger Van, but have gotton several calls from other people with buses.. So its all coming togeather... The Lady that was going to Drive the Van with my Wife is unable to go, but we have a few other people that want to go... The Wife is sorting kids toys, kids shoes & clothes....We are going to start packing the Bus and Van in the morning, and picking up the donations.... If any one has any other places that might need something (anything) we will try to help out.... We have alot of resources. It will just take a few days to get stuff togeather.... Please IM me (jcmquix) or my wife (Sassy_Lady)..Don't be afraid to ask... we have clothes, shoes, toys... etc... can get about anything... we will get them to you at our cost... Sorry I didn't get the chance to even read this post before you guys are just about to leave. Think it's great that you're headed to MS. They need lots of help there too. Perhaps if there is a return trip for a 2nd time, then you guys could locate a way to get through to LA. Tomorrow, we're headed out to the shelters to help. I'll make sure to see what I can find out for you. And be assured, your help is headed in the right direction. To get anywhere near where our shelters are here, you'd have to take the "real" long way around the state of LA to get through. It is my hope that the Red Cross steer you in the right direction. There will be a final tally of thousands dead, thanks to slow reactions from the federal, state and local governments (no matter how each of them sound earnest in trying to help). Another way to get involved is through moveon.com or Craigslist.org. Sign up to take in a refugee. I have a small one bedroom apartment and signed up to take in two. There are 10s of thousands, maybe 100,000 newly homeless. Give them shelter and get them out of the Superdome, where the luckiest of them are. Unless you're the type to keep saying to others "what a shame" but don't really care and won't really do anything to help another human being. If that's the case, withold your lip service of concern. False concern makes you look foolish. But if you truly do care, join me in taking in a stranger. They need us now. |

They are heading to the area around Hattiesburg MS. and sourronding area's.. at Delta's & Redneck's info, and also have reports that these people are still waiting on AID to come, No one has showed up there yet... They are really Hurting right now.. Well they have alot of stuff, they filled the Bus and the Van, with everything you can imigane From Water to alot of Baby Stuff... Even got Empty Gas cans donated, that I think they are going to fill and leave there. Note to Helen: I did take pictures, than at the last moment Jolene wanted her camera.. So I am going to have to wait to post the pic's, but I promise as soon as they get back I'll get them online.. We counted the space and hope that we can bring at least 70 people back to Florida, if they wish to leave there. Thanks to Everyone for your Prayers & Support !! I Love this Family !!! She told me that she felt she needs to go.. she is the only female that Volenteered to go... all others said they were busy... ya.. ok and Jolene is not... ?? Anyways, I know where her heart is... She said all was going well, they were about 100 miles from Alabama.... She said that they met another church Bus full of people leaving MS, and the church had another Bus leaving this AM with another load of people who were leaving... So they got directions and everything.... as I stated before that it is was all in God's Hands and He would direct them... Edna: No problem there.. I understand, she was not sure how close and if you had a way to meet them... I'm sure you guys will get to met Soon... Helen: Thank You...Yes, I am sure she will like very much to hear from you again soon.... Well I am alone on the Flushing thing, My Son & My Nephew went along to help them out... Jolene just called, I really could not hear alot, except that they had stopped at one shelter and there were being taken further into the area of destruction.... It sounded like she said they have recieved very little aid where they are going, and alot of people are very thankful and nice to them.... She was told there is No Phone service at all where they are going now, I guess.... thats about all I got before I lost the signal... I have also gotton about 100 calls from people still wanting to donate supplies, so I am going to meet the Pastor tonight and see if they want to get another team togeather and plan another trip for next week.... This like the 7pm update... when I last talked to Jolene at 6pm, they were about 60 miles from NO, I think they are helping to Haul supplies into the Cut-off area's... It was really hard to understand her, but she said they were helping the people and were going to spend the night where they are for safty reasons... Not safe to travel at night.... Her phone battery is almost out, they have cell phone service, but no electric to charge her phone, and the bBus does not have a cigg lighter for her charger.. She was going to ask the national guard if they had one in any of the Humvee's..... I really wish I could have a conversation with her, I miss her alot and thinking about her all the time... but I know the Lord will keep them safe and direct them.. On the second part of this update, there is a few people who want to come back with them, but they all have alot of questions. I don't blame them, so they are going to call the Red Cross in the AM and get reassurance that they will have their (Red Cross) help once they get to Florida... But I have had alot of phone calls from churches telling me that who ever comes back to Florida will have everything they need.... I know I keep asking, but please Keep ALL of Us in your Prayer's and Thought's... this is something that is going to take alot of people and alot of time... but thats what life is all about, helping each other get through the tough spots.. I checked with them about getting shots for any sickness and they asked the Red Cross and they said that it was not needed there, they do not have any standing water or waste around... so they are all safe there... I guess they have about 5 people who want to leave with them and come to Florida, just to get out of Miss.... and still have alot of maybe's, they are leaving today at 2pm to come Home... They were going to leave about 2pm today, but they got a couple of calls from a radio station there and there are people on the way to their location where they are staying, and they want to come to Florida.. So I guess in all they are going to have about 8 to 10 people who want out of there, they have nothing left but a few clothes and some photo's. The good news is we have gotton more offers to house the people who come back, so maybe they will not have to go to the Red Cross for housing... I guess they also planned another trip to the Parrish where thay are now in the next few weeks... The people there need alot of supplies.. Asking them to bring back alot of Water, Baby Wipes, Diapers, Batteries.. etc... Well just trying to keep everyone who is interested updated... Thanks for all the Prayer's and Support...
