Title: Kozmic Bluez... Post by Frank_W on Sep 2nd, 2005, 2:12pm Disaster to disaster, media feeding frenzy to media feeding frenzy, hopscotching along from war to hurricane to gas prices to missing girls to runaway brides to White House scandals to UN scandals to Pat Robertson, and terrorist actions; flicking the channels through Leptoprin to nail fungus to herpes to "ask you doctor if _____ is right for you! Side effects are generally mild and may include spleenic rupture, blindness, brain hemmorhage, and a desire to gnaw your arm off," to "Just $19.99, but WAIT!! Call now and we'll throw in this delightful coleander which may also be used as a helmet that deflects alien thought rays!" Like a child who has eaten too many sweets, I'm stuffed full and I feel a little sick. *sigh* Maybe I can cut the glass out of my TV and turn it into an attractive shadow-box or an ikebana arrangement... Looking For The Media Indigestion Medicine, (side effects may include ulcers, grastritis, cramping, bloating, abdominal hemmorhage, and cranial leakage) No mas.... I'm hibernating. Fuggit. -Frank |

Title: Re: Kozmic Bluez... Post by AussieBrian on Sep 2nd, 2005, 11:38pm So, to cheer you up a little, a poem. To be spoken aloud by an old man. (For the record, chooks are chickens.) Child Eyes At the polite insistence of my darling wife, (Orright, I was nagged to an inch of my life) I got a truck-load of dirt to level the garden. Had it dropped by the drain, then Lord did it rain, And I never got back to that project again, And as for the trouble-and-strife, I'm still beggin' her pardon. I admit she's asked twice that I fix up the gates, (She says "More like a million" - she exagerates) And as for the chook-run - orright, it could do with a stitchin'. But while the snakes can get in, they can also get out, The chooks have room to roam about, And the neighbours get eggs laid fresh right there in they're kitchen. There's some long-dead machinery scattered around, Timber palings and such where the fence fell down, And then the grand-kids came to pay us a visit. Now, I'm not scared of change, it's the name of the game, I can tell you that things just ain't been the same, I look at these old things now and think, "Well, what is it?" For that old mound of dirt became a great fort, And battles raged 'round it as great battles ought, As a rough-painted grease-rag flew o'er the Eureka Stockade. History got done, the miners won, The Government men all set to the run, And to the victors the spoils, and the lemonade. The big pepper-corn tree that I never did like, Was a fairy's castle, lantern-lit each night, And by day it became the grandest old ship ever. They sailed her well, though the seas were hell, The dinner-gong's now a world-travelled ship's bell, And I've since carved into the bark the name "Endeavour". It was just an old kennel, but the things it's seen, The making of kings, beheading a queen, There's the 5 gallon drum that carried the virgin Mary. And I've promised the wife (upon me life) That I'll clean this all up, it's no great strife, She just sighs, and smiles, and nags me only rarely. |

As it happens I know the author, and it was rude of me not to include his name: Brian D. Lee, a top bloke. |
