Title: Hurricane Katrina and are we rdy for terrorism Post by ArCane on Sep 2nd, 2005, 9:45am We can see on the news that it is taking forever to get any help to the people on the Gulf. My question is, if this was a terrorist attack would the reaction time be the same? What would happen if this was a nuclear terrorist attack? Would it take a week to get any troops and aid into the area? We knew Katrina was coming for us, but in a terrorist attack we wouldnt see it coming. To me this is a sign showing the terrorists that if they hit us, we cannot respond. Our troops are spread too thin and we cannot even help people in our own backyard. Its very very sad. Another thing to think about is now is a prime time for a terrorist attack. With the troops in Iraq and starting to help the people on the Gulf, Im sure there is places being left with no guards and only minimum security. Its a scarry thought. |

Let's see. Hurricane Sunday, levys break Monday. By Friday aid is mobilized, masses are evacuated, cleanup has started in the unflooded areas. I'd say they're doing a hell of a good job. During the '71 Sylmar quake there wasn't any flooding. In spite of dry land it took weeks to get water back and start real cleanup. Conditions are a lot worse down south and they're doing a better job. |

I was gonna respond to this but screw it. Leave it to the media and uninformed to push every single piece of bad news and ignore the inspirational and heroic efforts of the trained and untrained people living this nightmare. |

Good fuckin' grief....you have no idea what you're talkin' about. I've had it with this bullshit....we have folks from this board...who are victims of this disaster. Why don't you take your opinions and stick 'em up your ass! Compose yourself a little email....and send your opinions to someone....anyone...that you think gives a shit about what you think. Enough is enough......no more slamming the good people of Louisiana....or New Orleans....or the authorities therein. There are folks suffering...and if you had half a brain, you'd be cautious about making such a post. You think I'm over the edge???? Damn right I am... Back off....and STFU!! Respectfully, Jean |

Title: Re: Hurricane Katrina and are we rdy for terrorism Post by Charlie on Sep 2nd, 2005, 6:48pm Can't live in this kind of fear. You might as well kill yourself now. This is the kind of thing that despots thrive on. Sitting in front of reality tv, buying boner pills, letting them scare you shitless works wonders for them. It's worked for thousands of years. Don't let them get away with it. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/travesmilies/smilie_aengstl1.gif?SSImageQuality=Full The world is safer today or at least as safe as ever but don't let on that you know it. Title: Re: Hurricane Katrina and are we rdy for terrorism Post by cootie on Sep 2nd, 2005, 8:20pm I am also very tired of all the blameing.....esp on the news and CNN when there is a disaster to think about......why do we HAVE to blame someone rite now and it get so much publicity.......I think it is so disrespectful and stirring up people. Makes me SICK when they start to argue on tv about blame takeing up our time and concern like a soap opera. Personal crap belongs in the toilet Pam |

I know they are suffering. That is my point. We could have been alot more prepaired for something like this and brought relief quicker. But we dont plan for the worst case scenerio we plan for the average. This time it went way over the average and hit worst case scenerio. People still need releif. Some are still on their roof tops. Order has not been restored. People are shooting at one another. If you guys want to think everything is going good, well...your entitled to your opinion just like me. P.S. I have friends that live in New Orleans. I know what Im talking about. Im happy the people on the gulf are starting to get aid but it could have been quicker coming. |

Title: Re: Hurricane Katrina and are we rdy for terrorism Post by mcf69 on Sep 2nd, 2005, 9:52pm OK, lets think about this for a minute, giant storm, no real idea of its path, do you put your resources for the rescue effort in the path of the storm to be possibly detroyed?, no. The sad truth is you can't put all your eggs in one basket, if the wind knocks the basket over, they all get broke. What no one seems to get, is with a disaster of this size, it takes time to prepare a rescue effort. Quote:

Title: Re: Hurricane Katrina and are we rdy for terrorism Post by Cathi04 on Sep 3rd, 2005, 3:03am Bob P mentioned the Sylmar"71 EQ......we had no power or water for 3 weeks.........phones were spotty at best...........we had no supplies into our community for a week.no A/C. We didnt riot, we banded together and shared whatever we had with those around us. "94 EQ....8 weeks, while the water source was checked, no power, no phones, no overpass by which to access our lil community. The PREPAREDNESS for NO was as was stated on LAst Saturday........ GET OUT! Noone knew precisely WHAT or where........but, I can assure you, if there is a time when any natural disaster looms.and there IS warning....by yumpin yiminy, I will heed it! That said, the loss of life, the many thousands of people displaced, it's heartbreaking. |

Title: Re: Hurricane Katrina and are we rdy for terrorism Post by jimbo on Sep 3rd, 2005, 9:15am I believe a lot of these people didn't leave for fear of having their possesions stolen. OK, you know that the storm is on its way and you are told to evacuate swiftly. Take what you need and get the hell out. Two days later, you are a 1000 miles away and the storm turns and causes little damage to your area. You make your way back home in a few days only to find that most of your possesions have been stolen and sold by your wonderful neighbors down the street who didn't leave for those very same reasons. Guess what? You don't get anything for your losses because it was theft and not a direct result of the storm. I'm sure alot of those people didn't have homeowners insurance or renters insurance. It seems that they were forced to roll the dice because of all of the fucking a-holes in this world that would steal anything that they can get their hands on. I understand wholeheartedly about stealing food and water and have no problem with that but "What good is that plasma screen TV gonna do you with no electricity and 6 feet of water on the ground you fucking idiot." It's unfortunate, but we are surrounded by fucking animals who would rather rob, rape, and steal than help out another human being. Seeya, Jimbo |

Title: Re: Hurricane Katrina and are we rdy for terrorism Post by Ree on Sep 3rd, 2005, 10:52pm I think Sunday to Friday without water and dying babies is disgraceful....sorry but it's true... we shoulda been ready.... my kid has been calling all over to volunteer... no one even knows where to send people that want to help.... people want to open their homes but... they want to COREY everyone that is offering...though there are some looting etc.... I dont believe people offering their homes to refugees are child molesters and axe murderers.... some times in crisis we just have to go with our instincts about stuff. If we used more instincts instead of wallet we would get further.... my piece of the pie ..... goodnight.... ree |
