Definitely look into the flea allergy thing.  That's a possibility.  But, my daughter had a cat who it turned out was allergic to her cat food and showed many of the same symptoms you talk about.  Her cat licked off most of her hair, and her skin developed bumps (it was a horrible feeling just to pet her).  Turned out, she was allergic to her food.  Christine (my daughter) has to buy a certain brand of food that she can get at PetSmart or whatever that other store name is.  It's more expensive, but it absolutely did the trick - the cat is perfectly fine now.

It might be worth a try.

Sandy

Ree,

I have an older long-haired domestic cat (about 12 years old now).  She's always been a bit anxious, but 6 months ago began peeing on the wall in the family room, as well as the basement office under my husbands work area.  Same things as yours, like beside the peeing, cleaning herself all the time.  We had to destroy the baseboards and pull up all the carpeting in the family room - $1,500 to replace.  Off to the vet.

Miracle of miracles - VALIUM!

Within 2 days of starting the wonder drug, all inappropriate behavior stopped.  She now eats alot, has gained weight and requires more affection, but no more peeing or over-licking.  My vet says she may need to be on it until she dies, but I'm willing to pay the monthly drug bill (about $13) to keep from putting her to sleep or replacing yet more carpet.

Just a thought you might mention to your vet.....

Kris

Was in the vets office last weekend and seen animals come in like your cat.....one big dog came in and was almost bald.....looked awlful. The vet mentiond fleas......a FIRST flea bite can really do some damage if they didn't have them or haven't before. They can really have a reaction and itch all over. Did the vet mention antihistamines at all for the itching ? I have a cat on one half tab of the clariton a day (10 mgs and I give him half)......mine has a stuffy nose esp when it gets musty around this house. Cats and mold sporen are BAD. If you give her anthihistimines make sure it is "only" that and nothing for congestion ect. Animals get neurotic like people but they itch and scratch......the peeing part is obviously no fun. Animals show stress in some strange ways. Would wonder how long valium would work on a pet since for people you can take it for a short time and have to increase it to work. Itchy scratchy Pam

My cat has been wheezing and coughing like a three-pack-a-day smoker. We gave her a course of antibiotics and that didn't help. When she breathes, she sounds like a bulldog. The vet said she might be asthmatic, and I said, "What? Do they make little kitty-sized inhalers or what?" She laughed and said that we may have to give the cat some kind of pills... $hee$h... Thi$ is ju$t crazy...

The kitten is at the vet's this morning to get his nuts chopped off, and to get his blood checked, because he drinks more water than a horse and has turned the litter box into a soupy mess. Fuckin' animals... Worse than children... These are the last two pets we're going to bother with. No mas!!

I've had lots of animals all my life esp cats and I seem to be noticieng alot more health problems even in house cats......or dogs.........I've noticed more with cats tho. I have a big exotic that I put on two kinds of antibiotic theropy roateing with TIME OFF inbetween for several issues and now anthihistamines. I had a cat I had to put down before it was 1 year old cuz of a tumor caused bu lukemia yet we had the cat tested 3 times and she tested negative. It can lay dorment a while but to have a tumor this big you'd think symptoms would of showed up. (lympho sarcoma in the chest) Her kidney's felt hard and lumpy  too and was healthy as could be then suddenly started to have issues. It started in after I got a new job with more days working. Stress may of trigger'd it for her.  I suspect it was the lukemema vaccination that caused it.....which can cause the symtoms. We all suspect that was it. It was an outside healthy cat I brought in with my siamese crew. I have an outside tiger I would love to get fixed and bring in but am afraid to.....esp with older cats in the house. I no longer give house cats shots.....lots of controversy goin on about shots anyhow and damage then can do esp to cats. Have noticed alot of dogs with heart problems these days (not mine but people that call me that lost a pet looking for a pup). In a way I blame processed foods and some of the vaccinations and medications (a cat goin outside MUST have vacinations and outwiegh the odds).....not all cases of pets gettin sick from routine shots ect mind you. But have noticed an increase in health problems for the average pet. Lots of allergy issues....have talked to alot of people with pets that have lost hair and scratched and dug themselves sick. Makes you wonder......at least it does for me. Pet issued Pam

Out of 5 house cats 3 of mine have allergy's and one has severe asthma but is an old old guy.

Okay we went away for the weekend, plans were made... had to take miss Pissy Pantz with us..... so she is on the hormones "Ovaban"... she can only stay on them for a week then every other day and then once a week.  I guess they can cause liver damage etc.   She is also on antibiotics for her infection that she caused to her skin and the fever.... check this out though the doc says she doesnt have a UTI but she has blood in her urine.... I thought that meant infection....??? They also gave us this plugin thingy to stop her peein on stuff. Called Fellsway?  She only christened one of our camper couches.... Dave almost killed her.... We are getting through this~ I think Im going to lock her in the bathroom with a litter box... We have found that we have to give her an empty litter box or puppy pads... you know the blue ones with the plastic backing... She is nutz I tell ya! I appreciate the posts... any and all information is gladly accepted I will be checking out Erics links after I write this....
OH AND DAVE IS GETTING HIT REGULARLY....takin a back seat to the kitty in this post.....sheesh.   He is a trooper Im so proud... sucking his 02 when needed... we can do this.... love ya  Ree
