Title: Do you believe in "signs" Post by Gator on Aug 25th, 2005, 11:56am People talk about certain events as being signs that something is going to happen good, bad or otherwise. Yesterday morning I was putting on my clusterheadaches.com wristband and it broke right between the "head" and "aches.com." Now, I'm not one to believe in signs or a bunch of hysterical mumbo jumbo, so it was amuzing to me that my first thought was, "It's a sign!" Maybe this means my "cycle" (I'm primary chronic) has broken. Can you say NOT! I got hit on the way to my doctor's office in OKC. I got hit in the middle of the appointment. I got hit on the way home. I got hit several more times last evening. Maybe the "sign" was that the beast was going to break my head. At any rate, I still don't believe in signs. Sheesh! |

I actually do believe in signs... we were driving home from dropping off Lexi last Sunday night and I was thinking about the house we are buying and asking God for a sign that everything would work out and go smoothly & for me to get a break from the beast. As soon as I stopped praying about it Chris goes "OMG look at that beautiful rainbow." The next day we made the official offer on the house and were approved for financing the day after that. Same day I went to the neuro and was put on Neurontin (one I have never tried) and haven't had a serious hit since I started it. I feel drunk and loopy, mind you, but I am not in pain 24/7! So yes, I believe in signs. :-* - Karen |

As far as my trip to the neuro, can you say "Second verse, Same as the first?" I hate leaving the house. Not that I get hit that much less at home, I'd just rather dance on a familiar floor. Slammed on the way up. Slammed in his office waiting for him to finish with another patient. Slammed on the way home. Slammed a couple more times that evening for good measure. He did give me scripts for things never tried. Nortriptyline didn't work for the depression and sleeplessness, so he changed it to Amitriptyline. Baclofen was a bust, even at 80mg. I had never tried Neurontin. Previous docs had no faith in it so they wouldn't prescribe it. I've tried almost everything else, so he said, "what the hell, it might work" and set me up with a script for neurontin with taper up instructions. He also gave me a script for Atacand, but since my blood pressure is not a problem at all, he wants me to trial the neurontin first. If it doesn't work, then I start the Atacand - assuming my insurance company will pay for it. Neurontin is available in generic. They should go for that. Atacand is not and it is expensive. They already have a bad habit of not wanting to pay for meds for me. Aetna sux. They are the ones who were trying to tell docs to quit prescribing so much Imitrex and start prescribing more OTC pain killers. Like, duh! We never thought to try taking an aspirin/tylenol/excedrin/etc before we went to the doctor. Morons. Anyways, we'll see. After everything I've tried that has failed, I'm skeptical at best. |

The tricyclics (nortriptyline, amitriptyline, and so on) are great for sleep, although not everyone gets tired with them...me I slept 20 hours a day on amitriptyline...so that was no good either! They also work well for some chronic neurologic conditions. Generally not very helpful in treating depression for most people, which is rather ironic - given the name. :) So - have you ever tried anything like effexor, welbutrin, etc? I know lots of people have gotten depression relief from Cymbalta which is a newer med (an SSNRI - Selective Serotonin and norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor) - for me, I actually got more depressed on it and was cying a lot! But...most everyone I know that's taken it has had a great improvement in their depression. And of course there's always the SSRIs of the prozac and paxil family - but I only ever took prozac out of that group. Just thought I'd write about that aspect at least - just in case you don't feel any lessening of the depression from the ami.....don't give up and don't suffer through depression in silence if you need help. Oh! And one other...remeron - supposedly great for sleep AND depression - I was going to try that one, but I never did...forget now why we decided not to go back on an antidepressant, but I'm not on one at the moment. SSRI's block the psychoactive and therapeutic effects of LSA/LSD, but not shrooms. Tricyclic antidepressants (Tofranil, Norpramine, Anafranil) increase the psychoactive effects of alternative therapy. BB |
