Title: Re: interview(s) for Xanga Post by Jonny on Aug 22nd, 2005, 4:32pm For quite some time, people have been posting numbers to describe the amount of pain that their headaches cause them. There was no real "guideline" so that we were all on the same page.... until now. Our friend Mr. Bob Kipple was up late with the demon late one night and put the pain that we had been speaking of into what has affectionately been named The Kip Scale. I think you'll agree that what he's written down is right on the money. Thanks for letting me put it up here Kip! Pain level 0 No pain, life is beautiful Pain level 1 Very minor, shadow's come and go. Life is still beautiful Pain level 2 More persitent shadow's Pain level 3 Shadow's are getting constant but can deal with it Pain level 4 Starting to get bad, want to be left alone Pain level 5 Still not a "pacer" but need space Pain level 6 Wake up grumbling, curse a bit, but can get back to sleep with out "dancing" Pain level 7 Wake up, sleep not an option, take the beast for a walk and finally fall into bed exhausted Pain level 8 Time to scream, yell, curse, head bang, rock, whatever work's Pain level 9 The "Why me?" syndorme starts to set in Pain level 10 Major pain, screaming, head banging, ER trip. Depressed. Suicidal. |

Get us a picture of this happy little pain chart, could ya? We could blow it up into a large poster, take it to the next convention and invent a whole new dart throwing competition! Prizes could be awarded for highest and lowest number of smileys poked! That's about all the thing is worth. ;;D Sandy |

Title: Re: interview(s) for Xanga Post by Lizzie2 on Aug 23rd, 2005, 10:57am LOL Those are the Wong faces....used for children age 3 and up until they can understand and verbalize the traditional numeric pain scale. One night, I was working in the ER and this girl came in with a bad migraine. She was wearing sunglasses and kept on laughing - said her pain was a 10. This very well could have been true - we all react to pain differently, but I did talk to the nurse outside the room about it. He said, "Pain is individual - we take it at face value." OK...I agree with that. So then I tell him that right at that moment, my headache pain was an 8. Then he points to the Wong faces and says, "This is an '8' - you don't look like that, so you can't be having level 8 pain." <sigh> ::) |

Title: Re: interview(s) for Xanga Post by cootie on Aug 23rd, 2005, 11:50pm It says that faces pain scale chart is used for kids and women.......guess men have there own set of faces ech ? This is the chart they had in the ER in the private ER rooms and where ya sign in. They asked me which one I was.........didn't have one of a middle finger or an ass-hole Pam (I'm moody) ;) |
