Title: Has Gas prices changed your life? Post by LadyElaine on Aug 22nd, 2005, 5:37am It sure is changeing ours. Buddy now takes Deveny to and from work. I don't go to far away from home any more. We eat at home more and not out. Deveny is thinking about changeing jobs and taking a cut in pay to be closer to home. We are also thinking about saleing the Truck. Gas is espected to hit $3 a gallon by the end of Aug here. Has it effected your life yet? |

I've tightened my budget in as many places as I can to the point if it goes much higher, I'll have to stop eating. Been looking for a different job locally but there just isn't anything out there right now. Not sure what will have to go next.... :-/ |

We are truely thinking about saleing the truck the camper. Gas has gone up and a freeze on raises have been in place at Devenys Job. Lay offs are in the near fuiture. Its really getting scary here for us. Man I feel for you Svenn. |

Have to go to work to get a paycheck to make the payment on the car I need to get to work to make enough money to buy the gas for the car I need to………..oh hell, this could go on forever. Gotta go over to the store to get some smokes. Maybe I’ll quit smoking while driving. Can’t go to the movies and have popcorn anymore either. |

Post by Lizzie2 on Aug 22nd, 2005, 7:50am Well before I moved, I was paying a total of $2.50 each day on the PA turnpike, and then paying $9/day to park my car. I lived about 30 miles from Philadelphia - so to and from the city was about 60 miles. My tank holds enough gas to go about 190 miles. SOOOOOOOooooooo that being said, I had to fill 'er up every 3rd day I went to work. It was realllllllllly expensive! I would have taken the train, but it didn't even come out to my hometown early enough for me to get to work on time! So...now I live in my new place (well - I'm home for the day) - I can take the train at 6:25 and get to the city by 6:49 - which gives me enough time to walk down to Jefferson and be there by 5 of 7. :) I live in Zone2 now instead of Zone5 - which means way cheaper train tickets!! (Plus, we do get discounts through Jefferson Commuter Services...) I had to drive in this past weekend because the train schedule still doesn't get me there on time for the weekend work. But...I can park in the evening lot for the weekends, which is only $5.75 instead of $9.00 - and it only takes me about 20 minutes to get to work from the new place! I even got home to my parents' house with 3/4 of a tank still full!! Before Saturday morning, I hadn't even seen my car since the prior Sunday - I was taking the train everywhere I had to go! Ahhhhhhhhhhh - one of the biggest reasons for my immediate relocation was due to the commuting time to Philadelphia - but one could say the fact that the train service would work and I wouldn't have to pay as much to commute were also big factors! It definitely changed my life! I don't exactly have any kind of savings built up yet! Gas is a killer for us young kids - barely started working (full-time that is) and living on our own, picking up all costs this time! Carrie :) |

My job is a whole 3 miles away. I could bike or walk, but the only way in to work is on a 5 lane "speedway", with no sidewalks. I drive a 99 Camry that gets good mileage, and we have an Explorer, that pretty much sits in the driveway now. If Tarey has to travel somewhere on business, he takes my Camry, and I drive the Ford to work. I guess we're lucky. Sandy |

The only thing we cut out now is stuff we don't NEED. That means when I do my bi-weekly shopping, I only get necessities. I always buy dicount and sale stuff, but now it's no more "fun" discounted stuff (waste of money basically for toys & little crap that adds up really fast) . So we are just bending with the times. Jess has a 1995 Grand Prix he takes to work. It has 185,000 miles on it right now and gets 27mpg. When it finally does break down, he is getting my car, a Toyota Corolla (34mpg), and I'm buying a Prius or some other hybrid. We still have our truck and boat, but don't vacation a lot except for when he has vacation (which isn't often anyway). We don't complain because, like Svenn's situation, we know there are people across the pond paying extraneous amounts for gas! ;) |

Post by Hirvimaki on Aug 22nd, 2005, 8:25am I ride the bus to and from work, and although I did not start doing it because of gas prices, I am certainly happy that I do because of that now. The bus costs me right about 45 cents a day or $120 a year and I get WiFi and do not have to hassle with traffic and I get to read or even sleep! If I drove to work it would cost me about $5.32 a day or $1,458 a year. Not a hard choice. Hirvimaki-Isi |

Talked to da spousal unit about commuting together again...but we don't commute well together. :-[ I guess we should suck it up to save on fuel. No sense her driving by herself everyday. TomM |

Laid a nice pathway of white and yellow shell-grit bordered with pink granite, then noticed my shoes were wearing out 1.026% faster. That's the equivalent to an extra new pair every 1.34 years! Given the ever-increasing price of shoes, based solely (I'm told) on the soaring price of oil, I'm seriously considering replacing my pathway with white sand. It's also coming into spring-time, my time, so I'm worried that the falling frangipani flowers may serve to soften footfall and further skew statistics. I'll do my best to remain accurate, but in the meantime my heart surely goes out to all who must go to work purely to cover the cost of going to work. All I ask in return is that you complain less about the cost of filling the tank and consider my personal dilemma. Granite border, or quartz? |

My eldest son is getting married in Kansas City next summer and another son is having a baby (yes, he's just as preggars as his wife) in San Antonio. I am very close to daughter-in-law and future one and they both are wanting me involved which means a lot of traveling. By then I'm afraid of what the price will be. I may have to hitchhike. |

Post by cootie on Aug 22nd, 2005, 11:36pm YES.......Brad rides onea the bikes to work MOST of the time 'weather permitting' and even then some (he'll prolly do that when he can till it snows).....cuz it's costin him a fortune to fill that big truck's gas tank weekly. Paid sum bucks to get my propane tank topped off too so can only imagine what the price will be in WINTER.......that scares me.....esp with an old not so well insulated house end to end. We both drive about 20 miles to work each way but we are pretty frugal in other areas. Chris works for (horror of all horrors!) Wal-Mart so we get a discount there which is where we do all our shopping. The belt will tighten a bit more here in about a month or two once the house payments start going out (GULP!) but I know that we will make it work somehow. I am also dealing with the A-hole ex who moved 25 miles away and is insisting that I come pick up Colin every Tuesday, Thursday and every other Sunday because he just "can't afford to keep running all over" for MY convenience. Hmmmm, sounds like another heaping, steaming pile of horse crap to me... more like he can't afford it with his fancy new SUV. :-X Kisses! Karen |

Filled 'em both up last Thursday for the bass tournament Friday night...at a cost of $193.68. I still had 6 gallons in my truck....or it would've pushed $210.00. Hasn't slowed us down....but our kids are convinced we're trying to spend their inheritance! :-/ Jean |
