OK.....  So what was the genius behind these town names?  All valid and oh what the hell, invalid explanations welcome.

Horneytown, North Carolina

Whynot, North Carolina

Hicksville, Ohio

Knockemstiff, Ohio

Slaughterville, Oklahoma

Idiotville, Oregon

Virginville, Pennsylvania

Sweet Lips, Tennessee

Ding Dong, Texas

Looneyville, Texas

P.S. I've been to Intercourse, Pennsylvania.  Man was I disappointed.  Might as well have just gone to Virginville.   [smiley=laugh.gif]

I used to live in Saskatchewan and there were some good names of places there.

Piapot

Elbow

I lived near Moose Jaw

My favorite though was in Alberta, "Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump."

Don't know if it was a town or just a site, but I always wanted to visit there.

Casey

Forgot to mention - I am from "Manteca" California, which means "Lard" in Spanish.

I used to work in Vacaville, CA, which in Spanish means "Cow Town."

Hey KOP good one. There is another town up here called Fertile. I was told that a gal died in a car crash some years ago and the headline read, Fertile girl dies in Climax. I live about 30 miles from both of those places.

There was a town near me with the delightful name of Onoville. When I was little, I was terrified of the Onoville bridge. Back in the 60s, it got flooded when the Kinzua dam was built in Kinzua, PA on the Allegany River. It no longer exists.

Nobody menitioned Intercourse, PA?

I always liked Chagrin Falls, Ohio near Cleveland.

Cheektowaga, NY near Buffalo gets a snicker too.

Helen....

Sheesh - I get more and more amazed every day!  I looked at an apartment on Llanfair Rd - in Ardmore - here in PA.

Just like moving to Narberth and having Val live just by Narberth - but PA vs Wales.

And Bala Cynwyd being taken right out of Wales.

And the Pembroke apartments down the road.

WTF???  Did I move to Wales in Pennsylvania?  LMAO

Yes - the PA names are quite funny....

Bird in the....  crap I forget the name of it, honestly - but it's somewhere out in Amish Country.  I'm always amused that the Amish names are so....well......suggestive!  Intercourse, Blue Ball, that bird one....and my favourite...

On the way to Penn State, you go under Kleinfeltersville Road..........and although it is spelled slightly differently, here is a description of Klinefelter's Syndrome......now tell me if this isn't one of the weirdest names you've ever heard!

Quote:
Klinefelter syndrome is a genetic disorder that occurs in males who have three or more sex chromosomes. At least two of the chromosomes must be X chromosomes, and one must be a Y chromosome. The condition causes males to have some female-like physical features.

What is going on in the body?
Klinefelter syndrome affects only males. The presence of the Y chromosome assures that male sexual features will be present.

Because males with Klinefelter syndrome don't have the normal number of chromosomes, the body's natural balance is upset. The upset in balance leads to:

underdevelopment of the testicles, a condition called hypogonadism, which usually leads to infertility
a taller-than-average height and a feminine body build

Klinefelter syndrome usually does not cause mental retardation, but affected males test slightly lower than their brothers and sisters on IQ testing. They also may have problems talking and hearing.

So let me get this straight.... If I drive across country, I can start at Butts, head on to Horneytown, proceed to French Lick, followed by Intercourse, then finish up at Climax.... and of course possibly end at Blue Balls.   :-[

There sure are some horney towns out there.  LMAO

It seem every northern midwest state has a town called "Climax."  We have one in Michigan too.  If we could get a couple other states to confess to having one, a person could take a trip from Climax to Climax to Climax to .....

Wow!  what a trip that would be!
