I have returned from my camping trip and found that work sucks.

We had a great time in Southern Indiana while fighting off skunks, raccoons, and wolves. (serious) But that's to long of a story to get in to right now. I have a lot of work to catch up on.

I just wanted to post a few pics and let you all know that I made it back and remained PF the whole time I was there and had a great time with my family.

Welcome back Pat.... Glad to see you were PF the whole time.. Thats Cool...

I'm glad you are back, I think I was running out of hiding places... being on all those list and all... but you guys are bigger fish they (CH Babe's) wanna FRY....

Hope you get caught up on work soon, I know the feeling I am going on Vacation next week....

I hope the PF time stays for You !!

On the second night of our campout, we decided to take a late night walk. After returning from the walk, we sat by the camp fire and started with our ritual of eating pistachio nuts and throwing the shells into the fire.

After a while, I saw movement on our campsite and turned on my flashlight to see what it was. Much to my surprise, I saw a skunk walking right through the middle of our camp site. I told my wife and daughter not to move.

I came back later to see if our visitor had left yet and found him inside our garbage bag. Three raccoons had also joined him. We visited with some neighbors till the animals finally left about 45 minutes later.

The next night, while walking to the showers, I saw movement next to me in the road. I turned on my light and found that another skunk was walking right next to me down the road. I told our neighbors about it and they told me that they had 3 of them earlier.

Later that night, I woke up thinking that I needed another shower and realized that the source of the smell was (you guessed it) a skunk. I didn’t know where it came from but I did know what it was. The next morning, our neighbors notified me that a skunk sprayed under their camper.

The last night of our camp out had an interesting animal visit. Around 10:00 P.M. or so, a guy came by walking his dog. We didn’t pay much attention to him. About 15 minutes later, I thought I saw the dog come back by him self. Again, I turned on my flash light to see a little better and found that a huge wolf had come up out of the woods and walked right through our camp site.

Wow! What a great camping experience! All the more reason to go camping again! Wildlife on your doorstep! :)

I used to camp alone in the Mojave. On a four day jaunt, there was a coyote that was hanging around in the shadows, just beyond the campfire. Each night, he would creep a little closer. I kept an eye on him, but for the most part, pretended to ignore him. By the fourth night, he was sitting less than four feet to my left, as if he were a domestic dog. Very cool and a little worrying, at the same time. All I had to defend myself was my survival knife and a .45

Camping in Yosemite, I awoke to find a couple of bears playing catch with my big-azzed steel Coleman ice chest. I stayed in the camper. They were BIG bears!!

When I was a little boy, I went camping in Yosemite with my parents. We were staying in "Tent City," and I awoke around 5 a.m. because I had to pee. I walked to the public facility, did my business, and was walking back, and as I rounded a row of tents, I froze in my tracks: There was a HUGE stag with a massive rack of antlers. He was less than 3' from me and wasn't spooked at all. He continued walking, and looked down calmly at me, with big brown, glistening eyes, as if to say, "Hello, peasant." He continued walking quietly along, like he was the King of the Forest. I'll never forget it.

That's nothing I was once at a stag, and there was this girl dressed as a peasant with a massive rack, she was about 3" from me and looked down at me with big brown glistening eyes and calmly said, "Hey King of the Forest"....

The rest of you don't know "real" camping. When I was a tyke, we headed for our camp on edge of the Alleghenies, in southwestern New York State.

With that bucolic picture in mind, here how it worked: Dad packed up the portable generator, mom-the Electrolux, and off we were. After emptying about 6 cans of Flit in bunkhouse and main room, we played horseshoes while waiting for all the bugs to die and other creatures to exit. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/swat.gifThen mom ran the vacuum and sucked up all the victims of the Flit (DDT) http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys2/smilie_saug..gif? and had dinner. Dad made Martinis and hooked up the short wave. -- Dad was a radio ham.

I used to live down a tiny country lane in Wadhurst in East Sussex. I was on my way home from a night out with a friend who was staying over and there was a fawn in the middle of the road blinded by my headlights so I stopped and dipped the lights.
Damn thing wouldn't move. So I turned the lights off.
Flaming animal still wouldn't move!
This is a tiny track by the way.. one way, if you meet another car one of you has to reverse to find a place to let the other pass.... anyway.. the damn animal still wouldn't move!
Eventually I turned off the engine and we still had to sit there for another 10 minutes before he ambled off.
All I could think of was "Explain in your own words how the accident happend..."

LOL! Glad the skunks didn't spray you guys. That would've made the trip miserable I'm sure.

I know what you mean Helen. The road to our camp was the same and half the time muddy and hard going. Everybuddy took turns finding a place to back into when meeting a car. New cars were never any good because of the low wheelbase. Better using the pickup.
