Title: Re: These are my friends Post by cootie on Aug 9th, 2005, 10:49pm We've been over run by them out here in places......the can be quite destructive noisey and messy. At a campgrounds nearby they have a problem......with several campers and tents around at a few campouts they will get on tables and steal anything that is not put away and go thru boxes and pans. I seen one tryin to get the door open on a freinds camper by tryin to pry it open from the bottom. (there two little kids were sleeping inside) We seen a bag of buns run up a light pole with a racoon attatched at the others went up after it and fought up high. Woke up with one chewing on a tin can rite by my head when we had the tent. They'll get IN a tent if they can and I would NOT want to wake up and scare a big male or female with babies. Once they find food they will be back every nite.......we had several comeing over every nite finishing off cat food and my porch was gross. They used the water dish to wash the food and made a mess......all my planters and stuff had dirty grime on them cuz they FEEL UP everything. And the front porch deck was filthy from there dirty bodies and feet and STUNK like a wet dog. They'll get in your house if they can. They carry fleas and distemper.....not to mention rabies. I know there cute to watch but when you hear something tryin to rip a hole in your screen or pry a door open you will want to shoot to scare. (I'd say kill but there mite be racoon lovers on here).....What cha gonna do when they come for you Pam :P They are cute tho........there just a nausance around here big time and makeing pets sick. And 'alot' of them are sick and ratty looking............ |

Title: Re: These are my friends Post by burnt-toast on Aug 10th, 2005, 7:43am We live on the outskirts of civilization and they visit our mulberry tree all summer. They have plenty of natural food here so they don't bother anything and have no interest in our garbage cans. You never see them in daylight. It's comical to watch them work out on the thin branches were the best fruit grows. They look like clumsy little trapeeze artists but they rarely fall. When they do they really just bounce, get their wind back and climb back up. Tom |

Title: Re: These are my friends Post by marlinsfan on Aug 10th, 2005, 7:46am If you had a pool in your yard, they would use it as their toilet. I moved into a house last year, and every night 2 coons would come in and poop in my pool. >:( It was driving me nuts. Animal control told me that they had rabies, that it was illegal for me to trap them, and that they had a tendency to come to my yard to drink out of my pool, and yes, they liked to poop in water. So I installed a motion sensor light. For about 2 months, they would come in every night, and the light would scare them away. They now drink & poop in my neighbor's pool! I've heard him complain and I gave him some tips, but I have not seen the light come in on my yard anymore. [smiley=sayyes.gif] I ended up draining my pool, and having it acid-washed for a few hundred $$. Nasty critters. You'll get no positive sentiment from me..... |
