Title: Flower for today
Post by deltadarlin on Aug 7th, 2005, 6:57pm
Just thought I'd share some pictures of flowers.  These are all in my yard (well, the iris' are at jimbo's shop) at one time or another

And my favorite of all the infamous Cherokee Rose.  If anyone would like a cutting of this monster, pm me.  It will grow anywhere without any effort, no food, no water and no insectisides and it grows just about anywhere in the us.  It is a *rambling* rose and the one in our back yard is about 50 feets (rednecks word, not mine) long, 10-12 feet tall about about 15-20 feet at the center.  It is an evergreen, but it only blooms for about 2-3 weeks out of the year.  It has some wicked thorns too!

Very nice, I really liked the rose and the close up under it. Will the rose grow this far north?

Ahhhh...the infamous Cherokee Rose....

These are beautiful......but good grief  :o   they will get out of control.

My Mom & Dad had one....it covered about 75 ft of a cyclone fence....and grew upwards into a cedar tree.

Killed the cedar tree...LMAO.    But that damn rose bush just kept on going.    The thorns are killer thorns..LOL.  Never seen anything so beautiful with thorns like that.

As usual....Beautiful pics, Carolyn.    You're so sweet to share them.

Jean

How far north are we talking?  This is a very hardy rose and from what I found out, grows "Distribution: Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas, east to Florida, north to New York, west through Indiana to Kansas. "  I found one place that said it would grow in Minnesota.  I think it would depend on where you planted it and if you gave it any insulation in the winter.

I *used* to have around 60 rose bushes in raised beds (all built for me by redneck).  Damned hard work and expensive to raise roses, so now raising daffodils, which can be naturalized and mown down after blooming.  Since we've lived here, have probably transplanted close to a 1000 and planted almost as many in bulbs.
