Title: Imitrex Patent Expiration ??
Post by purpleydog on Aug 5th, 2005, 2:50am
Does anyone know when the patent expires on Imitrex? I've been using it since '93 and I know it's been patented since it was in research and development. The patent is good for 17 years.

Will make a huge difference for a lot of us when the generic is available.

By the time Imitrex becomes generic, most of us will understand that it fucks up your body and that alternative therapy (clusterbusters.com) is the way to go.

August 2008. According to GSK...anyway...There are a few Pharma. companies that are saying the patent has expired and are in litigation to produce generic options.

I guess the courts will decide. ::)

Oh nice. And by the time it's decided, the price will have gone up to pay for the litigation.  ::)

That's strange...I didn't check with GSK...but I checked with the US Patent Office which said that Imitrex Compound (patent #4,816,470) originally was set to expire March 28th, 2006...but was given an extension to Dec. 28, 2006. The delivery patent of Imitrex IM subcutaneous (which is what most CH'rs use) was set to expire August 8th, 2008.

I wonder if it's different in other countries. I'm sure patent laws differ. Just going by what the patent law office said...and then doube-checked on Google. Hopefully, I'm wrong and it is the end of this year.
