Title: Day IX, (Feeling much better, now)
Post by Frank_W on Aug 4th, 2005, 3:26pm
Day 9 of being a nonsmoker. It should be getting easier, but instead, it seems to be growing more difficult with each passing hour. I keep getting hit with one crave after another, and yet, I don't want to screw this up, and the very idea of actually lighting a cigarette and smoking it is nearly nauseating to me. This sucks... It's like I'm being torn in half by two lions. No matter who wins the tug-of-war, I'm fucked.

Okay. That's my annual quotient of whining.  :-X [smiley=stfu.gif] [smiley=nopity.gif] [smiley=ugh.gif] [smiley=looser.gif] [smiley=furious.gif] [smiley=bomb.gif] [smiley=bulb.gif]

But, you can do it.

Thanks, guys... It's wearying, because after this long, it feels like it should be getting easier. *sigh* I'm not going to smoke, but I don't know... Maybe I'll go to bed early tonight, or something.  :-/ ::)

now's not the time to buy in to all the garbage that smoking is soooo hard to quit. That's propaganda put out by the tobacco conglomerates to drag you back down. They're even behind the stop smoking tools that keep drumming in your head -- it is sooooo hard, you'll probably fail, unless you have "us" to help. Fuck all that! You'll beat it damn it because you can beat it and you want to beat it. I loved every cigarette all the way up to the last one. But I had to quit and you have to quit if you want to be there down the road. So, beat it. Don't let the tobacco propaganda suck you in.

Now, i'll step down from the very tall horse I was sitting on. ;)

You're absolutely right, Scott. And it HAS been pretty easy, so far. Maybe I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop, or something... I don't know.

A few things that I need to keep reminding myself:

1. The craves are caused by smoking. Not quitting!
2. No single crave lasts longer than 5 minutes.
3. Lighting "just one," means that I am consenting to being a smoker for the rest of my life.  :o (This one scares me)
4. There is no place anywhere on my body, that I am physically in pain from a crave.

*breathe.....*

Thanks, Scott. You da' man.  [smiley=thumb.gif]

Thank you to you too, Elaine. [smiley=hug.gif]

Frank, it was suggested to me, that, for every time I craved a cig, I should drink a big glass of water,,,,,,,,

well, between drinking the water, and doing the natural next step.......I didnt have TIME to smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think about it..that's my  [smiley=twocents.gif]!!!!!!!!!!!

My best to ya! Cathi

You are tougher than little bits of tobacco rolled up in paper.  Deal.  You can do it.  I haven't had one is almost a month.

Remember how it was down in the bar on Thursday night in Dallas?  You could have cut the smoke with a knife.  I had just made 5 months smoke free and this was the first time that I had actually dealt with a lot of people smoking.  If I was able to keep from bitch slapping somebody and taking their cigarette away (really really wanted a cigarette), you can make it through this.

Frank you can do it, if I can do it anyone can. I lived on sunflower seeds for the longest time, they actually helped me and I'm starting to get used to not having those either. Hang in there it does get better. Just think of all the money your going to save along with your health.  ;;D

You're doing something your family will thank you for.

The other thing is that it's so much less complicated when you don't have to deal with tobacco.

Keep it up. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/goodjob.gif

Thank you, everyone. Day 10, now. Just taking things one day at a time... If I could tell you how close I've come to buying a pack of cigarettes, and then if I could express how awful it would make me feel, and then if I actually smoked one, how defeated I would be... Sheesh...

I think most smokers live with this kind of schizophrenia: Deep down, they all want to quit, and at the same time, they all want to continue smoking.

Hellish....  :-/

Always envied casual smokers. Sorry to say I had to consider myself to be like a crack addict when it came to smokes. I either all in or not

Good job, Frank!

You're 10 days in.... don't give in to a craving now - you'll just have to go through these first 10 days again, and it's not worth it.

You can do this!

That's the ticket.  I quit several years ago.  Was up to 2+ packs per day.  Mostly I don't want anything to do with cigarettes or their mess and smell, but every once in a while...

You can do it.  Stay strong, dude.

cigarettes and the habit that goes along with them is STRANGE....I cannot stand the smell of them or site of them durein the week or any time I don't smoke. I only really smoke when I have some beers which is anuther reason I RARELY drink dureing the week at all even out to eat. I empty all Brad's ashtrys cuz they STINK and soak em in the sink overnite. Sumtimes he lights one up and I leave the room to go do sumthin else. Yet when out on a social nite I smoke and have some beers.....if I am extremly nervous going somewhere I may hit Brad's a few times and not sure WHY even when it's not a social thing. Kind of like takein a cigarage break at a hospital or seminar and I run out with the smokers when I really don't want one. I think it has some sort of SOCIAL status to it......kind of like cracking yur knuckles and scratching your chin habits. I dunno.....it's an oddity stick Pam

You wimmin can be weird about smoking habits. You will start again after long periods of being smoke free. I'll never get that one.

Nice going Frank. You're doing peachy keen.

If you give up at any stage you give up on me!  I'm following your progress! (even with the power outages here on my side, bloody third world country!)

Congrats, man, that is really cool.  Maybe you could send over some willpower for me to use to quit.
I have tried to quit before, still smoke though.  The biggest thing that always gets me is whats called the '3 week monster'.  That is after the physical habit is broken, and the mental habit really kicks in.  That can last for a month or 2.
It is a friggin monster, but ya just gotta resolve yourself to not smoke ONE cigarette, ever.

Keep us updated.  You are motivating, I hope i can someday muster up the motivation to quit before it kills me.
BMonee
