Title: Why does it... Post by Gator on Aug 4th, 2005, 8:36am ...always wait until the temp is in the triple digits before the A/C dies? 103oF 80% humidity A/C dies WTF? Spent most of yesterday either sucking O2 or poking holes in my stomach. Luckily, the high is only supposed to be 97oF today, but the humidity is already at 87% and the repairman isn't scheduled to be here until sometime after 4:00pm today. Looks like another day of the same. Time for that move to Montana. |

Two more words: Rental Unit This place has had better care in the last three years than it did in the 10 years before I moved in here. I regularly change the filter, check the A-Coil and clean the compressor unit. I think it's just old age. |

Title: Re: Why does it... Post by Charlie on Aug 4th, 2005, 3:26pm 88/32 here and humidity around 90. You got nuttin' on western NY State. I'm going to be hated. I'm using the Lennox central A/C that my dad installed in 1969. It's never had maintenance of any kind. This thing is obviously something from another planet........1969 was the year that my CH began....... Sorrry Gator, I had to do it. Post by LadyElaine on Aug 4th, 2005, 3:35pm Yea mine was going out I happen to hear a noise then noticed every time the air came on the lights would flicker and they kept on, I called them before it went out $97 for a part. They got here before it went out. But a mopoth before my refegarator went out. Because of the two things going bad my electric bill was almost $300 It always happens when its hot , we don't use it when its cold ! :) Hope you get it fixed and get cool soon. Heat and Clusters don't mix. |

Title: Re: Why does it... Post by Linda_Howell on Aug 4th, 2005, 3:46pm I was just in Montana a few days ago Mike. Absolutely gorgeous and no need for A/C However you might want to think about an alternative place to live in the winter. ( -55) Like Phoenix. Linda |

Title: Re: Why does it... Post by Lizzie2 on Aug 4th, 2005, 10:05pm Ahhh Gator...... I feel your pain on that one! My dad and I just had the A/C repaired on my POS '95 Mercury Sable. Cost about $550 or so. I'm not kidding when I say that I nearly drove my car off of the Schuylkill Expy the day it was 105 outside and it took me 2 hours to get home in some of the worst rush hour traffic I'd ever seen from Philly. My CH seemed off the hook in that heat. I was in tears by the time I got home. Plus the migraine was even elevated to the point of absolutely unbeareable. So yeah...what a miserable thing. Having my A/C back is at least helping with the commute..... However, I try not to use the car A/C unless absolutely necessary......3 trips into philly and back while using the A/C means I need about 13 more gallons of gas to get my car running again. My car is a gas drain....I seriously fill up at least twice a week! Hope the A/C gets fixed soon!!! In the meantime, sticking your head in the freezer and drinking lots of cold water seems to help me somewhat! haha Hugz, Carrie :) |

Title: Re: Why does it... Post by cootie on Aug 4th, 2005, 10:25pm Our furnace died last winter 'when we needed it most' and of course 'in the middle of the nite'......the 24 hr service guy we have said since we didn't have his special service plan (huh ??) he could not rush rite out and when he did get there it would cost us 4 times the normal amount if we had it (huh again). It's a special plan that cost alot of cash. Brad went to the guys house to get the part......saved us several hundred bucks. We have a vented wall heater in the rec room where my kennel and other pets are. It went out soon after that when it got down to zero and below......the service guy was called and he didn't carry that part. Again it would cost us big bucks for him to order one and bring it out and didn't have one for Brad to go get. So Brad found the part at Lowes the next morning for under $ 5.00. Hope ya get the AC fixed......I'm on my second one. What can go wrong WILL at my house Pam Stay cool !!!! |

Title: Re: Why does it... Post by Gator on Aug 4th, 2005, 10:55pm Well, the repairman came out about 4:30pm and sure enough the blower motor is fried. Left saying he'd be back tomorrow. Came back about an hour later with a new motor. He had just squeaked in the electrical supply house before they locked the doors. Installed the new motor - POP! - SPARK! - FIZZLE! The new motor fried as soon as he turned it on. He'll be back tomorrow after 4pm. In the weather news. It got up to 98 with the humidity around 100% today. It rained this afternoon. For about 5 minutes. Turned the area into a steam bath. Gotta love it. On the bright side, the temp is "supposed" to drop into the mid to upper 60's tonight with highs tomorrow only in the upper 80's. That's practically a Blue Northern! |

Title: Re: Why does it... Post by BobG on Aug 4th, 2005, 11:06pm Did ya ever notice that when you work a little overtime and think to yourself "Hey, I should have an extra $340 for that tablesaw I want". Then on pay day it costs exactly $340 to replace the water heater. Or, the paycheck will be $187 more than usual. Your daughter calls and says "Hey Dad. Just called to say I love you. I'mshort$187topaymyrentthismonth. How's Mom?" It ever fails. You make an extra buck and there is always someone there with their hand out. |
