Title: What is a Redneck
Post by Redneck on Aug 2nd, 2005, 9:20pm
Hard to explain. I can give you the webster definition. Or the common perception.  :) Or a couple of other things to think about. Won't bore you with my definition, truth, honor, justice, etc, nah, don't fit me  ;)

This kinda fits though, and yes I stole it  :P

We have enjoyed the redneck jokes for years. It's time to take a reflective look at the core beliefs of a culture that values home, family, country and God.  If I had to stand before a dozen terrorists who threaten my life, I'd choose a half dozen or so rednecks to back me up.  Tire irons, squirrel guns and grit -- that's what rednecks are made of.  I hope I am one of those.  If you feel the same, pass this on to your redneck friends.  Ya'll know who ya' are... You might be a redneck if:  It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, "One nation, under God."  You might be a redneck if: You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public places.     You might be a redneck if: You still say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival." You might be a redneck if:  You bow your head when someone prays. You might be a redneck if:  You stand and place your hand over your heart when     they play the National Anthem. You might be a redneck if: You treat Viet Nam vets with great respect, and always have. You might be a redneck if: You've never burned an American flag. You might be a redneck if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening. You might be a redneck if: You respect your elders and expect your kids to do the same. You might be a redneck if:  You'd give your last dollar to a friend. God Bless the USA

Take it or leave it, you really don't want to hear my down home redneck sayings  ::)

So be careful, you may be among rednecks where ever you are. Count yourself lucky at that time.

A Redneck in South Africa is a born and bred Englishman.  SA used to be a British Colony, so it was used as a derogatory term to describe the English in the Boer War.

What people expect of a "Redneck"

A redneck is a stereotypical southern United States socially conservative, rural, working class white person with sunburned skin and northern European ancestry. The stereotypical redneck is a male, has a beer belly, consumes cheap American beer such as Budweiser or Miller by the case (Pabst Blue Ribbon in more traditional settings) as well as Jack Daniel's, and holds deeply conservative political views. Stereotypically they are homophobic, racist and distrustful of "city slickers". The stereotypical redneck also lives in a trailer, drives a large pickup truck with a Confederate Navy Jack flag decal and a gun rack in the rear window, has a stained sleeveless t-shirt, a trucker hat or baseball cap with long sideburns. Their favorite activities include hunting, professional wrestling, NASCAR, monster truck rallies, and car engine repair. Country and Southern Rock bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and other classic rock groups from the 1970s are their preferred genre of music.

What you expect ain't always what you get! But I damn sure like my truck and southern rock bands.

I think I might be a redneck, too.   The only exception is that I believe firmly in reproductive rights and family planning - that's pretty leftist.

Everything else fits.  Can I belong?

Shit, Jonny beat me to it.

My two favorite bumper stickers:

Gun control means using two hands.

and

Keep honking I'm reloading.

I may be a Redneck.

I must be a redneck. I have guns and think laws restricting religious practices create more trouble than they try to solve.

My bumper stickers:

One, black and white, that says very plainly, "Don't Be A Dick."

The other has a happy face with a rueful smile, dabbing his mouth with a napkin, and it says, "God was my copilot but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him."

I guess I'm a redneck. (I watch boxing instead of Nascar, though....) LOL

I know I am a redneck! I have always been proud of it.
You forgot one.
Rednecks stop their cars on the side of the road for  a funeral pursession going by!
We had a real good motor cycle cop when dad died he made people stop. I thought he was going to get killed he went into the other lane stopping people. The cop was a redneck through and through!

Jimbo,

I've been thinkin' on this since you posted it.

As a Redneck myself.....I already know Webster's definition..and the common perception.   You and I know that both the definition and the perception is way outdated.

You say you won't bore us with your definition.....you say it doesn't fit you.

Truth....Honor....Justice

As I read the writing below your statement...all of those things are there.    This fits you to a T.

As Redneck's....we hold our upbringing close to our hearts...we love "home" and all that that entails.    We love our Country...Flag...and God.

We know that the Confederate Flag stands for heritage.....and not hatred, as some folks think.

"One nation under God" is the truth, whether others believe it or not.

The National Anthem still, after all these years, pulls at our heart strings.

As Redneck's, we are smart enough to know that there are many others who think and feel as we do.   Doesn't mean they're Rednecks......but it does prove that the public perception of Redneck's may be just a tad bit shaded.

I'm Southern Proud.....and Redneck.....and I'll walk the mile with you anyday.....anytime.

Matter of fact....I have a "Come and Take It" flag..might just hoist it on up the flag pole.

Much love to you, Jimbo...you're a "keeper"         :-*

Jean

Still like that here, unless you on one of the little crooked state roads where there is no place to pull off. And one other, If someone is broken down or has a flat out in the country, someone is going to stop to help, as you get close to town or on interstate you on your own.   :'(

I had to think on this one awhile. In Dallas, while wandering thru the bar (gasp, yes I was in the bar  [smiley=laugh.gif]) I saw 2 lovely ladies sitting at a window table. Being overwhelmed by their beauty, grace, and charm I fell in amongst them. One of the best things that ever happened to me. Jean and Jackie, what a pair, wonderful ladies.
TxBasslady, words can't explain what you mean to me. I have never met anyone that saw me quite the way you did. I immediately felt as if I had known you all my life. That I could tell you any secret and know that it was safe.
And she can out fish me to (maybe  :))
Wish I was more of a speaker. But she knows!
