Title: Three Cheers for the Brit Police Post by pubgirl on Jul 29th, 2005, 8:34pm Looks as if the Brit police Force have done a blindingly good job on tracking down the bombers. First lot obviously they got by picking up small pieces of their bodies from the trains and bus where they splatted themselves, they then went on to arrest the accomplices within a few days and finding cars and houses all with more bombs ready to be used. Now from the second wave of unsucccesful bombs it looks like they may have arrested all four of the bombers! We give the Force a hard time over their failures, so wanted to applaud the success. The sad news of course is that more will replace those dead and caught, and they don't believe they have caught the organisers/bigmen. The other sadness was shooting an entirely innocent man 5 times in the head at a Tube Station. Sorry for his family. W the B |

Title: Re: Three Cheers for the Brit Police Post by Simon on Jul 30th, 2005, 3:38am Hi Wendy, Have to agree with you about the speed of all this - just hope it can get at the wider problem before the trail runs cold. As to our Brazilian friend; while I'm sorry for his family, one thing that has gone under-reported is this (BBC site quoting Home Office, 28/7): "He applied for leave to remain as a student, which was approved and he was granted leave to remain until 30 June 2003. "We have no record of any further application or correspondence from Mr Menezes. "We have seen a copy of Mr Menezes' passport containing a stamp apparently giving him indefinite leave to remain in the UK. "On investigation, this stamp was not one that was in use by the Immigration and Nationality Directorate on the date given." So it wasn't that his visa had expired - a new one had clearly been forged. Perhaps not "entirely" innocent then. This probably explains why he ran. If this is the case, and he was here illegally, I don't understand how his family can have any legal redress. I'm sure the legal eagles will explain that - but the bomb victims will of course not be able to sue the bombers... S |

Title: Re: Three Cheers for the Brit Police Post by LeLimey on Jul 30th, 2005, 5:41am Wendy I agree, they are incredible, along with all our emergency services, I couldn't be prouder of them or have more confidence in them. Yes the shooting of that Brazilian guy was a tragedy but I've already said if I'd been on the train he was trying to get on and he HAD got on and I had then had to sit in a dark tunnel with him.. doesn't bear thinking about. In these days and times you just can't behave like that sadly and he paid the price. The Police don't have time to stop and think, its all split second. |

Title: Re: Three Cheers for the Brit Police Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Jul 30th, 2005, 12:35pm You bastards are lucky you have a government that actually hunts down terrorists. The USA STILL hasnt arrested anyone acting with or having knowledge of the 9/11 plot......its been almost 4 years. Props to Britain for being on the ball and having the nutsack to DO something besides talk. It is sad that they thought they were chasing a terrorist and killed an innocent man. I guess that is why it is important to listen to police commands. He was told to stop and stop evading, but he chose not to, so the police did what they were taught. The only person that did anything wrong is the dead guy. BMonee |

Title: Re: Three Cheers for the Brit Police Post by pubgirl on Jul 31st, 2005, 8:37pm For those who see this as an indictment of the failure to catch the 9/11 masterminds, remember we are a very small island peopled with very nosy neighbours and our terrorists all appeared to be British and living here. Does make it a bit easier, although still a helluva good job. W |
