Less than 2 hours drive west from the motel, the ghost town of Thurber, TX. In the early 1900's over ten thousand people lived and worked here. Thurber was once home to a large coal mine and produced bricks by the tens of thousands. The discovery of oil in Ranger,TX 30 miles to the west doomed the coal industry......the railroads switched to oil and the demand for coal disappeared.....and so did the town.

I can't wait to go back to Texas in February. Its such a state of contrasts. Thank you Bill, you've just got me all excited again!

Glad I didn't have to do it.

Texas sure is beautiful country. Thank you for posting the pics.
