Title: Re: P.E.T.A (OT) Post by cootie on Jul 16th, 2005, 12:33pm Since were on the subject of eating dead animals.......does anyone know the NAME for squirrel brains ? In Kentucky when we'd go visit gramma out in the boonieness wilderness when we was kids my dad and my cousins dads would go hunting and bring home squirrels. Grama would BOIL there skinned heads and leave in the eyes and they'd pile the heads in a big fancy bowl on the table along with the homemade bisquits in a wood burning oven (heavy as a brick) and home made jams and jellies, gravey and eggs and you name it. I HATED sitting anywhere close to the squirrel head dish..blech !!! They would grab a head and wack it with the heavy end of a knife and crack it open and EAT out the brains. GROSS'ST thing I have ever seen or heard of. It had a name tho.......no one can remember it.....no one wants to me thinks. Been tryin to find out that name tho of the dish......kinda like escargo name is to snails. Anyone know the name ? Anyone still standing.......opps sorry......made you peuk Pam I played with the squirrel tails till they STUNK cuz no one debone'd them. Funny....I just can't find that much enjoyment outa that anymore. :P |

Title: Re: P.E.T.A (OT) Post by burnt-toast on Jul 16th, 2005, 1:40pm Clearly one out of my definition of culinary delights. My grandfather loved cows brains - I can still remember him having skinned out cow heads in his fridge just waiting for him to make a snack out of em'. I've been accused of eating just about anything but never did the brain thing. Tom |

Title: Re: P.E.T.A (OT) Post by cootie on Jul 16th, 2005, 3:59pm Can't imagine a cow head in a special saucer at the breakfast table skinned and blank stare as they crack the head open to dig out the brains with a special little fork. I'll NEVER forget them doin 'that' with the squirrel heads when I was a kid......they set em in a special cupped saucer so they didn't slide around when wacked. Disgusting is the word that comes to mind......us kids would fist fight over who HAD to sit next to the big bowl with all the heads piled up. I lost alot.......no one could figure out why I wasn't hungry. Violent food for thought Pam [smiley=hurl.gif] Watched my uncle clean a picnic table sized snappin turtle too for soup and whatever else them carnivourous hillbillies ate down there.......brutal for a kid to watch. They'd clean fish and give us kids the float bags that were inside. Kinda like a touchable bubble. Then they bought us kids bags of fireworks down in Tenn so we could entertain ourselves for the two week stay. We blew up everything from tad poles and frogs to mailboxes and small trees. They gave us bags of cherry bombs too we did alot of damage with. All unobserved as kids.....here's a quarter stick of dynomite now go out and play.......eeks !!!! Never succefully blew up a chicken tho. Ahhhh how reminising can be tramatic. Edit: cuz my spelling sucks mule brains....... |
