Title: Pathetic - I've bonded with my pond fish Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jul 11th, 2005, 8:51pm OK - so I'm now an empty-nester, my hubby travels all the time, and I'm so pathetically alone, I've bonded with the fish in my pond! I talk to them, probably feed them too much, and to top things off - I caught the neighbor's cat eating breakfast there last week! He ate my favorite - a Black Moor. They have big, buggy eyes and I'm sure he couldn't see the monster cat sitting on the stones just waiting for him to swim by. I grabbed my husband's BB Gun, but was afraid of shooting my eye out, so never quite did anything at the time but cry. I did talk to my neighbors about it. They bought this "bib" that attaches to the cat's collar - funniest damned thing you ever saw. I guess it's supposed to scare birds and fish away before he can get to them. If I ever learn how to do this picture-posting thing, I'll post one of the cat with the bib. Meanwhile .... I've got to get a life! Kris |

NOW, I love the afraid of shooting the eye out thing! [smiley=laugh.gif] Reminds me of "A Christmas Story"! I love it, thanks for the laugh! I needed it after my Monday from Hell! Karen |

Title: Re: Pathetic - I've bonded with my pond fish Post by stevegeebe on Jul 11th, 2005, 9:23pm The very best gift I ever gave my wife was a BB gun. She scares the tree rats from the many bird feeders we have sprinkled about the yard. She scares them, mostly, and has to train the new ones every spring. She, Dianne, also is enamored with the fish we have in the sugar kettle pond that we have next to the porch. She would not hesitate pop a round off on our dogs if she caught them near the pond. She likes her fish. They all have names. Shoot at the bib. Steve G |

Hope the bib works! I have a fish in tank that we all talk to. His name is Sharkey. He used to be Goldie until he ate the other fish and grew to about seven inches long. |

Title: Re: Pathetic - I've bonded with my pond fish Post by AussieBrian on Jul 11th, 2005, 9:53pm Try putting wire mesh below the pond surface. With some floating plants you can't see it and the fish get a bit of protection from cats and birds. |

Title: Re: Pathetic - I've bonded with my pond fish Post by don on Jul 11th, 2005, 10:06pm Fish ponds are great. Few years back I decided to dig one. I did but got a little carried away. You could swim with the dolphins in this thing. To big and to deep. Threw in a load of Koi and never saw them again. LOL |

Title: Re: Pathetic - I've bonded with my pond fish Post by Topical on Jul 12th, 2005, 4:09am Sorry to hear that. Do you name your fish? Get a water hose next time or a "super-soaker". Just the threat of getting wet will make the cat run off. Safer than that BB gun. |

Title: Re: Pathetic - I've bonded with my pond fish Post by sandie99 on Jul 12th, 2005, 4:14am Kris, I'm so sorry for your loss! :( I used to have an aquarium and I was always sad when one of my fishes died. I wanted to name them, but we had too many to do that. I hope that you'll find a way to protect your pond. I had to be very creative when I wanted to make sure that none of the local cats would get to my quinea pig. They were clever rascals, but we managed to protect Olivia. :) |

Title: Re: Pathetic - I've bonded with my pond fish Post by LadyElaine on Jul 12th, 2005, 9:45am I don't know a lot about Fish except I like them. My Mom has a little pond her fish are so big her cats scard of them LOL! Buddy and I are thinking of building one here by the porch. Sitting by them is calming and hearing the water fall is so nice. Fish are smart, my Moms are anyway. She is real attched to her fish, God help anything that messes with her fish. Your not strange! I talk to flowers and trees! ::) |

Title: Re: Pathetic - I've bonded with my pond fish Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jul 12th, 2005, 8:49pm You guys are so great - now I don't feel like a total fool for loving those stupid fish. I've decided to set up a target sheet on the tree back yonder and begin practicing with that BB Gun! My only hope is that I don't accidentally hit one of the neighbor kids or the mail man! Kris |

Title: Re: Pathetic - I've bonded with my pond fish Post by Grandma_Sweet_Boy on Jul 12th, 2005, 9:06pm Kris - ya gotta bond with something and why not fish? They don't leave a mess for you to clean up - you don't have to do their laundry - they're easy to feed - they don't track muck on your freshly washed kitchen floor - they never argue with you. Hell, I figure we should all come bond with your fish and we could help ya snare the neighbour's cat! Carol |
