Title: OT: Mo' divin' (Safe and Sound) Post by Frank_W on Jul 6th, 2005, 1:50pm Tomorrow morning, I'm headed back to Florida for a couple days of diving. I've got all of my own gear now, but I haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet, so the first dive is bound to be mucking fuddled... I'll post some pics when I get back. :) [smiley=wave.gif] |

Title: Re: OT: Mo' divin'... See ya'!! Post by marlinsfan on Jul 6th, 2005, 3:02pm Hey Frank! Which way are you headed? I'm in Hollywood and the weather has finally started to look up. Visibility right now is less than 30 ft, but will get better if the dry spell continues. Surf temp is 83 degrees. I can't go diving till my cycle breaks.... Keep your eye out on Tropical Storm Dennis. Expected to turn into Hurricane Dennis later today, and to be over the western tip of Cuba friday night. Key West is in the "cone of error" for saturday. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at4+shtml/160819.shtml?5day It's "summer" everywhere. In S. FLA we call it hurricane season! Happy diving! Title: Re: OT: Mo' divin'... See ya'!! Post by Kirk on Jul 6th, 2005, 6:21pm Skin the shark. Filet out a side. Use a cookie cutter to make nice round little junks of shark meat. Beer Batter Breading and deep fry them. Thrasher shark is my favorite. Tastes like Scallops. Fries goes good with it too. Have fun [smiley=smokin.gif] |

Title: Re: OT: Mo' divin'... See ya'!! Post by Frank_W on Jul 11th, 2005, 9:55am I got back from Panama City Beach on Saturday evening. We dove on Friday, and my new gear worked flawlessly. I love it!!! The only problem I had, was on the first dive. Somehow, my snorkel got twisted around, and kept my mask from sealing. My dive buddy was able to fix it for me, since I didn't realize what the problem was; only that my mask wouldn't seal, and I was inhaling an unpleasant amount of salt-water. (Blech!!) Thursday, we drove all day and then checked into the hotel and drank lots of beer on the beach. The dives went great. Once again, we dove Bridge Span 14 and the Black Bart. Visibility was AWFUL, (10' or less) so I didn't get any photos, but there was a great abundance of sea life, which made up for it. The ocean was soooo calm, it was like being on a lake, instead of the ocean. The rest of the day, all around town, people were nailing plywood over the windows, pulling their boats out of the water, and running as far in-land as they could. The lines at the gas stations, (the ones that still had gas!) were lined up all the way around the block. We were mandatorily evacuated on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. I haven't clicked on the news yet, but I hope everyone is okay, down there... On Friday night, we went to a pub called, "Newbie's," and hung out, drank beer, and listened to the locals talking about being evacuated, others who were going to stay and ride it out, and some who were a little scared. It was like being at a party for the end of the world or something... Eerie and poignant, and yet, fun at the same time. After the pub closed, we went down to the beach and drank more beer until sunrise, and just before dawn, we watched lightning zig-zagging across the sky over the ocean... So... That was the trip, and all in all, it was very enjoyable. We managed to time it just right somehow, and ended up completely avoiding all of the evacuation traffic. |

Title: Re: OT: Mo' divin'... See ya'!! Post by jcmquix on Jul 11th, 2005, 10:32am I'm glad you guys had a Good Time and avoided all the Hurricane Crap... Glad you were all Safe & Sound... Maybe next time the Weather & Sea will be nicer.. Meanwhile I guess we are getting ready for TP #5, to be upgraded later this afternoon, looks like this one might hit closer to home... Maybe it will fall apart, but the Gulf waters are still pretty warm (Good for Hurricanes)... Still waiting to hear on Family I have at the Navy air-base where Dennis hit.. but I think they are all well... All we got was alot of Wind & Lots of standing water.. Again, Glad you are Safe & Had a Good Time. [smiley=me&mb.gif] PFDAN's to ALL!!! |

Title: Re: OT: Mo' divin'... See ya'!! Post by Frank_W on Jul 11th, 2005, 10:36am Thanks, bro'. Yeah, that's one frightening thing: The water was VERY warm! 87F on the surface and all the way down! At about 80', there was a thermocline that dropped the temperature to 74F, but that was only about ten feet from the bottom. When I was there in May, it was 85F on the surface, and twenty feet down, there was a thermocline that dropped it to 64F. (Brrrrr!!!!) Be careful. So far, this hurricane season is shaping up to be friggin' AWFUL! |
