Title: Live 8 in Philly Post by Jimmy_B on Jun 30th, 2005, 9:14am They're expecting 1 million people for the Live 8 concert on Saturday as well as all the tourists who come around the 4th of July. This one article says there's basically no way one million people will fit onto the area near the Art Museum. I guess there goes trying to do the Rocky imitation and run up the steps; http://www.nbc10.com/live8/4653508/detail.html :o Traffic should be a lot of fun. Somebody wake me when it's over and I hope they keep the noise to a minimum...I want to sleep in. ;;D http://www.nbc10.com/live8/index.html Jimmy |

Title: Re: Live 8 in Philly Post by Lizzie2 on Jun 30th, 2005, 9:44am Jimmy-- Take SEPTA!!! We need SEPTA to earn money so that they will expand the schedule. Vital for us in zone 5! ;) I have Saturday, Sunday, Monday off. Even though I think the concert sounds great, there is no way in hell I'm going to it with all those people! Last year, they had a concert with fireworks at the art museum. Diane and I walked over during the concert. We did not have fun -- too many people, couldn't see anything, very loud obnoxious kids AND adults... And that was hardly even a fraction of what they expect for Live 8!! I saw about 4x's as many cops on the road as I drove in this morning. Traffic was sumthin special! Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Live 8 in Philly Post by Jimmy_B on Jun 30th, 2005, 9:50am I was toying with the idea of going...went to Live-Aid when I was 18. Even though the sound stunk and the acts were for the most part minutes long...I had a great time. But that was with seating at JFK...I don't think I want to fight 1 million people for a good vantage point. There also saying there will be only 400 portable johns. One million people to 400 porta-johns = either depends undergarments or the nearest tree. Either one does not sound like much fun :P Hope you can get some rest, Lizzie. At least I'm a few miles upwind. Jimmy |

Not the sound that would probably be so vexing. I'm thinking the smell would be even less fun. [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif] |

You're quite right!! The smell in Philadelphia right now is enough to make you die on the street as it is! Once it gets hot here (and probably any city), it really smells like the sewage is flowing in the streets. Bleh!!! Jimmy - I left Philly at around 4pm, and I just got home. That be 1 hour and 45 minutes for a 35 minute drive. There was an accident on the ramp from 676 to the Schuylkill, so I didn't go that way! I took Vine Street over to the Ben Franklin pkwy to Kelly Dr (drove right along the stage for Live 8). That dumps me onto City Line Ave where the Friday's is -- head west on City Ave to 23 West, which is just past the Bala Cynwyd shooping center. (Conshohocken State Rd) That winds around forever and ever until you eventually get on the Schuylkill all the way at the blue route entrance - then 202 South down to my house. If you watch the news, I'm sure you know what all those roads are like! There's some accident at the Conshohocken curve going east, and traffic was at a complete stop all the way backed up to 202 North. That sucks! In order for me to take the train in tomorrow to be at work by 8am, I have to probably leave my house by 6am - but I may do that. I really think that tomorrow afternoon is going to be even worse than today! Can't wait to moooooooooooove - maybe Manayunk/Roxborough? Anywhere where the commute is less than 30 minutes! ;) Be careful if you go down to that mayhem. You know what happens when Philly riots! Remember Greek week several years back? Not a pretty picture!! Lizzie :) |
