By the same token, if a Doctor discovers the cure for cancer, does that give him the right to walk into a primary school full of children and shoot kids with an automatic weapon until he runs out of ammo?

Good deeds are not an excuse for piss poor behavior.

I must have missed something here but there is no need for me to know since I have dealt with BobP and I know what a  great person he is.

Feb 28th, 2005, 10:58am - that seem to be when you joined. Will June 26, 2005 be the day that you leave?

I HAVE told him, in front of everybody.
I've also wished him the best to his face. (internet face, that is. He hasn't shown at any of the meetings I've ever been at)
He's got a sick, juvenile thing going right now with LOTS of people that is jeopardizing all the good things he's done.
He gives out some of the WORST drug advice ANYBODY here has ever given....
Many of us spend way too much time correcting the bad info he's dishing...
it's quite sad...

Hmmm....I think Den has always said it best with his 'Take what ya need and leave the rest' phrase.

If someone is really bothering you that much to make you so angry that you feel the need to rip that person to pieces just to 'get back' at them, then seriously...please do us all a favor and just maybe stop reading their posts for a bit or try to take a breather!

Honestly, no matter how much you may not like someone else's opinion or actions, is the most effective way of dealing with that REALLY to start a thread with the sole intention of blasting them publicly?

Seems to me that a mature way to handle that would be to first take it to that person in private (not as a response in a public thread), and if that doesn't work, then focus on people you get along with and just let it go.  If that person continues to try to get at you, it seriously is only going to be worse if you fight and yell right back.

We can't control how others act towards us, but we sure as hell can control our reactions back at them.

"Hot heads and cold hearts never solved anything."

Just breathe  8)

I agree that it can be discouraging, but that alone cannot destroy a thread.

The eventual pissing contest that results is a direct result of all involved who start cat-fighting.

Just something else to consider....

Anybody can make a controversial post, but the responses to that post play just as much a part in the 'pissing contest' you refer to. ;)

(Not attacking you, Nani...I hope you know I wouldn't do that....just trying to make a point or observation or something...)  ;)

BobP stands up for what he thinks is right, he is man enough to say he is wrong when he is.
He is one of my best friends. We have not always agreeded. He has even called me a hypocrit (sp)! I believe I have told him to fuck off a time or two and he has told me to. LOL
We have debated a lot of issues on OUCH. We have worked together. I would work with him again. I wrote a post one time. Bob P wrote me and asked whats wrong? Bob P knew me well enough to read between the lines and knew something was wrong. Bob does more than just reads post.
You know none of us are a 100 percent right, I sure as hell have been wrong on some of my post and opinions in the last few years. BobP didn't mind telling me I was wrong, he never stopped being my friend. He has been here for me when others were not, he has been here for me no matter what. I know for a fact he has been here when needed for others.

I don't only like Bob P, I respect this man. I trust his opinions. I am proud to call him my friend! I think I like him most because he will tell me when I am wrong about stuff. Not one time has he let a indifference  come between us as friends.

I never had a true understanding of how much of an impact OUCH has made on an international level until being at the AHS conference this past weekend.  If it weren't for the original founders sitting around developing the concept....OUCH would never even exist.  Look at the success of some OUCH org's outside the US.  Speaking with Dr. Goadsby really showed me what a difference the OUCH-UK has made over the pond.  The grassroots go back to a few people with some very bold ideas and a lot of passion for the cause.  It takes quite a lot of energy, effort, time, etc to turn those ideas into reality.  How many people come up with some really ingenious and creative ideas but never follow through with making them happen?

OUCH-US definitely has had issues on again and off again - I don't think anyone would dispute that!  But admist all of the negative stuff that sometimes occurs - it is SO important to take a step back now and then and really remind ourselves just how much OUCH has accomplished in really very little time - as far as history is concerned!

That should be a good incentive for us to recognize that we all share a common goal - eradicating Clusters from the planet - or at least make big steps in the understanding and treatment of cluster along the way!  It is much easier to obtain that goal when everyone remembers that we all want that and lets go of the fighting and pettiness which has become a major deterrant to achieving that goal.

Of course it still takes work - and tons of it - but really just take a look at the other OUCH sites like that of UK, Canada, and Italy for example.  Then go back and read the history of OUCH's beginnings - or even better, listen to the stories.  One of the really neat things last summer in Nashville was talking to Kip and hearing lots of his stories from the past about the origins of this stuff!  Small steps equal really huge steps in the long term.  And we have to step back to see just how huge - helps to keep up the morale and really furthers our organization by bonding together despite differences.

Sure there are personality clashes and conflicts, but we need to be able to step aside of those issues and remind ourselves daily of the bigger picture.  Lots of people on both the board/execs and in the membership get frustrated and may at times say things that really are not conducive to moving forward.  However, if you look at the overall issues from both sides of the fence, everyone truly has the desire to achieve the same goal and really make OUCH the best it can be.

I always was impressed and amazed by the history of this site and of OUCH.  However, it really took on a new meaning this past week.  I really am so thankful to DJ and the founders of OUCH for opening such huge doors for us.

Keep rowing!
Carrie/Lizzie2 :)

Holy crap!  My own titled thread.  I'd of been here sooner but I went completely off the verap this weekend and paid the price.  Guess I'll stay dopey for a while longer.

For Nani - the a-hole remark was for one person not everyone who is happy to be pain free.  That person, I judged, used the pain free title as a nenner nenner rather than an I'm happy to be pain free.

I think the only drug advice I give is quoted from medical literature.  At least I hope it is.

Some people here have me figured out and I smile when they call me on my own game.  They become some of my best friends.

I'm supremely happy for everyone who is pain free, no matter how they got that way.  The past 16 weeks of my own cluster cycle reminds me how fantastic it is to not dread going to bed.  To not be afraid to take a nap on Sunday afternoon when the golf on TV gets sooo boring.  To not have to lug an O2 tank with you every where you go.  To not fight panic when your head starts getting that feeling 15 minutes into your #1 daughter's college graduation ceremony.  When you haven't taken a dump for 3 days because of the verap!

To those who complimented me in this thread, thanks friends.  To the others, everyone is entitled to their own.  Best to you too.

Brown nosing? No. I'm not going to talk smack about someone I'v never met in person, so no need to brown nose. Can Bob P be some what harsh? At times, yes. His rants are usually provoked, grow some skin and get on with your life. Having a laugh at someones lack of stool softner? That's always funny.

Dear BobP.
Here's your class for proper information since "YOU can't answer any questions related to ACTUAL fact". Pay close attention to paragraph #2.

Half-life
1) The time in which one half of the atoms of a radioactive isotope disintegrates into another nuclear form. Half-lives vary from billionths of a billionth of a second to billions of years. Also called physical or radiological half-life.

2) Biological half-life - the time an organism takes to eliminate one half the amount of a compound or chemical on a strictly biological basis.

3) Effective half life - incorporates both the radioactive and biological half-lives. It is used in calculating the dose received from an internal radiation source.

The fact is BobP. that you have "NO IDEA" when Imitrex is safely out of the system, do you?

jokrs2,

Like I said before and you just confirmed with your post of the definition:

Quote:
On the issue of Trex.  It has a 1/2 life elimination rate of 2 hours.  Therefore:

t+2 hrs = 1/2 dose
t+4 hrs = 1/4 dose
t+6 hrs = 1/8 dose
t+8 hrs = 1/16 dose
t+10 hrs = 1/32 dose
t+12 hrs = 1/64 dose

You could pretty much say that trex is out of your system in 12-14 hours.

I don't quite understand why you keep comparing it to Chernobyl?  The stuff there has like a 24,000 year half life (a little different then trex's 2 hour half life).

Half life degradation is not "completely" stable in any time frame. What happens over the first 8 hours will not necessarily be the same over the next 8. Everyones metabolisms are a bit different and the characteristics of imitrex were still in "my" system after 4 days without a tablet, and with kudzu it was at least 5 days and I am a fairly large guy. The advice that Flash and others have given is not bad advice and it is much safer than what I've seen and read others have done, (mixing meds) in an effort to get away from this terrible pain. When I discussed my LSA use with my doctor, he said that he agreed with the time factor of 5 days....by the way Bob, I've removed my prior rants, and I am sorry for my immature handling of this matter. I am in no way meaning any disrespect for what you have done for this community. Blessing's, Joe

I know I sure am, and I'm not even bagging on anyone, just taking arrows in my own side, but it's still a riot.  It seems as far as some people are concerned, I can do no wrong, and as far as others go, I can do no right.  I think some people see poor ol' Bob in the same light.

I am not all that sharp, but I find that Bob's half-life example falls into the 'Pretty fuckin tight' category.

Marvel at this graph of tritium's -biological- half life...
http://www.physics.isu.edu/radinf/images/trit1.gif

Well fuck me if that does not match Bob's projection.

The difference between common usage of 'half-life' and 'biological half-life' is the manner in which the half-life is reached... the former is radiological while the latter is biological.  They still tie to the 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc progression across set intervals.

Perhaps I am just misunderstanding what element of Bob's logic one is busting on here.

Sorry to bust the bubble.

From WebMD where it states that age, weight and a variety of other factors make it difficult to say what & when a therapeutic level has been reached on many medications including aspirin.

Medication blood levels can be measured in a person who may have taken an overdose.
The dose of a medication may need to be adjusted until the right blood levels are achieved. Dosage of a medication may also need to be changed if a person's lifestyle changes (such as becoming more active) or if the person begins taking another medication that can affect the medication being monitored.
A prothrombin time (PT) test is a different type of monitoring test. It is used to monitor the effects of the blood-thinning medication warfarin (Coumadin). A PT test may also be called International Normalized Ratio (INR). For more information, see the medical test Prothrombin Time.
Many medications do not have established therapeutic levels or methods to measure them. The therapeutic level is determined either by how a person's symptoms are responding to the medication or by the onset of an adverse reaction.

Well, Jokr, you'd best get THIS newsflash out to all the doctors who advise folks to wait only 24 hours between mixing their triptans.   Don't get me wrong, from first-hand experience here I don't think it's a good idea to EVER mix triptans, but...that is the standard advice coming from the medical community.  So, again, better get your declaration on a newswire quickly.

My point was, though, flaming someone effectively in Jesus' name is just WAY over the line.  I don't care WHO the flamee is, frankly.  I'd have said the same if you'd been the flamee, Bill - just so you know and to answer your question, ok?

Bringing religion into a discussion like this is just not appropriate.

Just an FYI to said pervs?  I'm not the spanker (or the spankee, so don't even go there).  Jonny doles out the spankings and when he gets tired, Don steps in.  It ain't pretty folks.

This may be Planet Clusterhead, but there are other places to go. I know of one place in particular where in the last 11 months that I've been reading and posting daily, I've yet to hear any name calling or for that matter- I've never even seen anyone get judgemental with anyone else. It seems everyone on the buster site is too busy sharing experiences and data in hopes of helping both themselves and others in an all-out effort to find relief from the excruciating pain that we all experience.

Many of you might remember a thread between Bob P and I about a year ago that got out of hand. I really got into that one! Until a few, especially Elaine who brought me to this site, voiced their disappointment in us both. Oh well, at least I learned my lesson.

I still stop by here from time to time- especially some of the other boards. I'll post if I need a question answered or if I think I can answer someone else's question. But by and large, I just absorb. As Den has been quoted, "Take what you need and leave the rest." That works for me, but I do share other's concerns about having to wade through all the garbage (hi-jacked threads, name calling, ego-massaging, etc.) to get to what you are looking for. I don't think a newbie would stand a chance. He or she wouldn't know who to believe! Anyway, just my 2 cents. I'm still chronic, but doing better. There are a lot of good people here. I love you all and wish pain free times and all the best for everyone.

I just read this whole thread and was saddened.  :-[
Now EVERYONE BACK TO YOUR CORNERS AND STOP FIGHTING!  I hate to see posts like this, but this is a family and we're not always gonna get along.

I missed "The gift" to BobP since is was deleted, but I can say he's been there for me in the past and I consider him a helluva guy.

The only logic I can offer here about half-lifes and system absorbtion is that while something can be workd out of the vascular system within a couple of hours, ANY medication can remain in the body for a period of days while being processed through the liver. I'm not sure about the Triptans though so I will have to research it.

The only other wisdom I can add to this long-overrated thread comes from another of equal length when another great man said "Just keep typing just keep typing just keep typing just keep typing just keep typing just keep...."

Peace love and hominy,
Carl D

Jokrs2 introduced me to this web site and I have known him and his family for many years as we attend the same church. He doesn't drink alcohol as it can cause severe triggers in him, so obviously the statement of him waking up drunk is an outright lie, and you're telling someone else to shut up until they know the facts?. He said he also took down his original post and apologized and that many of you were completely unwilling to even realize that the person insulted his thread for NO apparent reason and attacked Joe for being happy about finding a way to find some pain free time, and never bothered to even put himself in Joe's position or let alone apologize to him personally and that Joe attemted to be gracious to him after the event. Lee, you got the fact's straight. Joe said he will be back soon because of all the kind emails of support that he has received. He even cleaned and maintained the landscaping at our church for 3 months on his own time for no pay, while we were waiting for the new interns to start their training. That is the actual person I know. He also told me that from now on he will only be posting to positive threads which don't have porn, distasteful humor, degrading pictures or statements to women or men or anything political, as he believes this is of no benefit to this web site. Thanks for the opportunity to speak. Sincerely, Vicar2

Bob P in a tutu? Now that is a frightening image. [smiley=mellow.gif]

The first time I met Bob was at a hotel room in Vegas. He had the door propped open with a beer cooler and the whole world could see in. There were whiskey bottles on the table and drugs out in plain sight.

Well, I'm here to sweep up.  How'd it go tonight.

It's cool now, but some joker came through the door earlier yellin' something about being big too and wanted to know where that punk was.

Don't tell me.  He was looking for Booby right?

Yeah, then he got all sorts of flack and so he tries this different tactic and picks up two pool sticks and holds them like a cross.  A few drinks were thrown and there was so much alcohol all over the sticks... anyway, a match comes flying from somewhere and POOF, my only two straight cues in the house were a couple of charcoal dust lines on the floor.
So then he says he'll just go now and headed toward the door, but I guess that personality must have had some sort of half life to it.  He reversed his jacket and walks back as someone else, and was talking about the guy inside his jacket.

So what ever happen to Boob?

Oh he's still here.  He borrowed all the disco tunes from the juke box and mentioned getting back to the yacht or something.

Uh oh.

What's the matter?

All the disco tunes?!!  Those were Don's favorites.  Does Don know where the yacht is yet?

Nah, Booby ain't sayin', you know how he likes to avoid controversy.        :)   ::)

Margi.  I had to look at that hard myself.  It's not me, it's Arnold L in his ball cap.  I'm pretty sure I wore my OUCH t-shirt the entire weekend (I have 5 or 6 of them, I didn't wear the same one all weekend).  Arnold had a cool setup.  That bag in his lap in this picture was a small O2 tank/reg/mask that he carried with him everywhere he went.  Just slung it over his shoulder and away he went.
