Title: Are there any TV geeks out there?
Post by Jonny on Jun 20th, 2005, 6:08pm
50 in Hitachi rear projection, 7 years old.

I know this is a long shot but just thought maybe there was someone out there that could advise me on this, dont want to get screwed by the TV fix it guy.

Heres what its doing, sometimes it clears up and sometimes not. It also does this with a VHS or DVD in play....Theres no way I can go back to a smaller TV.....LMAO ;;D

Thanks!

Dig out the manual and look up if there is a knob to twiddle to get it into sync on external sources.

Ueli has the better idea - when in doubt RTFM!  Give it a try - what have you got to lose?

I hope you are not dealing with Catho-ray tubes
and that there isn't a moth stuck inside the projector.
   [smiley=huh.gif]

My sis had one that was back on the 1990's
and the colors would fade in and out...
so we had to replace the color-thing-a-ma-bob  :P

but I know that doens't  help you one bit.  ::)
 Sorry  :-X

The tv fix it guy always charges half of what it would be to buy a new one. Go to Best But dude, tv's are pretty cheap now.

Sean.................................

There's also a place in Cambridge thats wicked cheap for home entertainment, I'll see if I can dig it up for ya.

Not really too crazy.  Too bad televisions don't have a degauss button.  Just don't touch the speaker to the screen.

Is that a speaker on top of the television?  If so, try moving all speakers away from the set.  Maybe one is going out and throwing some magnetic interference.

Have you ever had the mirrors cleaned/realigned?  May be the  problem.  I haven't had mine done either but it's supposed to be annual maintenance.

I say have the T.V. repair guy come over and fix it...

...and then when he asks for payment...

....fire bomb HIM!

Good luck with fixing the TV, Jonny...Wish I could help but my VCR still flashes 12:00 at me and I have NEVER successfully recorded anything from the television.

This is going to sound crazy but give it a good hit with your open hand. If that helps, or changes the problem then it probably is bad solder joints. The Chinese suck at soldering and most bad electronics I have seen can be fixed with a steady hand, which I no longer have so I toss them :)

I've already seen my thoughts on the cause twice. It looks like it's been magnetized. Move the speakers and anything else magnetic away and then have your TV dude give it a degaussing.

I kind of like it that way though. It reminds me of my High School years.  ;;D

LOL yeah pretty much looks like what happened to my old computer monitor when it got demagnetized.  But it didn't stop there...one day the thing just went black.

I like the suggestions made here!! :)

Hitachi, one of the best electronic co's on the planet. 7 years is about all your going to get out of any thing these days, most  everything is assembled in China or Mexico. I have a 19" Hitachi monitor .21 dpi three years old, awsome piece. Assembled in Mexico. Think the trash guys will haul that big bastard off?

Nope.  EPA guidelines (at least the ones here in Okieland) prohibit disposing of monitors in landfills.  The computer store I worked for couldn't just throw dead monitors in the dumpster.  I got in trouble for doing that once is how I found out.

That's why you throw away a bunch of empty boxes at the same time...To hide the stuff (monitors, toner cartridges, nuclear waste, etc) under them.

Over here in tulsa, if you make friends with the Mexicans they haul off anything, but it is all taken to a trash burner.

I took the Opus advice and slammed it three times, on the third hit it was fine.....10 mins later it was doing it again, slam did not work again.

I moved the speakers and that did nothing.

Manual says check connections...they are fine.

I think I will mail it to Lee so his Mexicans can take care of it ;;D

Buy a Sony Plasma. I purchased mine from www.plasmabay.com and saved about $1700.00 bucks.
Or, you can go bigger size for cheaper w/ a DLP here: http://www.bestbuyplasma.com/plasma/dlp_land.asp What ever you do, do not get the EDTV Plasma...it's a monitor.
My last bit of advice is to buy the most expensive you can afford and buy a good brand b/c you will never regret it. Research it thoroughly.
Edit: I have several Sony TV's, DVD players, and surround sound. Not a one of them has ever had a problem. I prefer Sony.
