Title: Jackie needs our Prayers and vibes! Post by LadyElaine on Jun 15th, 2005, 8:30am Jackie don't complain much and not one to come asking for prayers or vibes, so I am going to do it for her. Jackie having back trouble, its got her down, and down right mad. Jackie is independent and not being able to do things is getting to her. She has given so much to us all here. If surgery is suggested, be SURE to get more than one opinion. We have a really good neurosurgeon here in Sarasota by the name of Glasser. He has the best of reputations and comes highly recommended by other docs. He will eventually do a few laminectomies on me, once I get my other issue behind me. If you care to, e-mail me. I've done a bit of research on spine problems and know of a few good sites that have peer reviewed papers. You are certainly in my thoughts and prayers and I do hope to hear from you. I swear this board is amazing.....I felt better today than I have in a long time....was even able to walk without a limp for a few hours..... :) The hard part about this is not being able to "do". I can usually throw a bull over the fence but right now I can't carry a gallon of milk across the kitchen. I think it hurts my pride more than anything.... >:( I'm gonna be OK though....my Daddy always said I was made out of horse turds and barbed wire..... ;;D....so I'll be fine. I'm going to do my best to be in Dallas next month... already plotting on how to get through the airports.... ;) Jimi.....you old focker....who you calling an old broad... ::) Jonny.....SMOOOOOOOCH right back at ya.. Thanks again...you ALL are the best!!!!! I am always on the go doin stuff and workin around here......even if I have to drag myself I jus am not one to LAY around no matter what. Get second and third opinions on any back surgery.....have talked to so many people that either got better for a short while or worse....so be careful. I know how you feel.........and it can really get you down bein it is a 24/7 thing. Bad backer Pam |

Hit head on in '97, 4 herniations which became displaced.......yrs of Pt and then a series of epidorals helped immensely! get flare ups every few yrs but highly recommend the epidorals. Post by cootie on Jun 16th, 2005, 10:20am My doc recommended epididorals.....yet most people I have talked to said it may of worked a month to 3 months and they were in worse agony after that. Plus I beleive they are expensive ?? Which adds up esp if ya do it alot with how insurence only pays half or less. (at least ours which is rather good ins it jus doesn't PAY for stuff......har-har jokes on us) What to do what to do Pam WHERE do they do the injections....is it a certain spot they have to go in ? What if you have bad areas at the bottom of the spine.....middle and top (neck)....do they have to go at the lowest point ? |

Yes, it worked very well for her. However, just as they were injecting the HORSE NEEDLE :o into her spine, a contraction hit and she arched her back. They punctured her spinal chord as a result and a bit of spinal fluid leaked out. The doctor warned her at the time to be on the lookout for an ensuing headache within 48 hours. The doctor really downplayed how serious this could actually be. With Savannah's birth, we were all pretty caught up and excited and the new family was released that same day (less than 12 hours later!). This was Thursday that this happened. By Saturday nite, we had to take my daughter back to Emergency because of the headache. What had happened was that because the spinal fluid had leaked out, the cushion of fluid that the brain normally floats on was compromised and she was in horrific pain as a result, vomiting, blood pressure WAY too low, losing consciousness, almost speaking in tongues by the point we got her to the hospital. Now, I've seen a LOT of headaches in my life. I'm telling ya...this one was worse than any cluster I've ever seen, folks. 3 bags of morphine later and 7 hours in emerg, they finally decided to do a blood patch (reinjecting her own blood into the hole, forcing the fluid back up the spine and thereby reversing the problem). Within a matter of about half an hour, she was totally fine and on her way back home. So, if you're considering an epidural? Sit STILL! edited to add: the ER doc told us this happens in 1% of epidurals. Low risk, but still... |
