Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by cootie on Jun 14th, 2005, 8:52pm Hey there........hell yeah I know where Hinkley is.......isn't that far away either.....maybe 40 minutes I think. Used to go watch for the buzzards years ago till we moved out here where they live all summer. Hell we get them here before they do anyhow. No pancake and sausage day for us Pam ;;D |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by Lizzie2 on Jun 15th, 2005, 12:02am Pam... You know where Vermilion is, too...don't you? Or am I thinking of someone else who said they knew where it was... Nobody ever knows that place! Best kept secret on Lake Erie, IMHO! ;) I miss that town! However, I'll never miss the sandflies. Bleahhh!! I may try to get out to Vermilion and Sandusky for a trip sometime in the somewhat near (1-2 years) future...we'll have to hang out :) Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by cootie on Jun 15th, 2005, 12:32am I've been thru Vermillion.......Sandusky is a good 1 1/2 to 2 hours away up north.......used to go up there to Cedar Point ! Lake Erie is kinda cool area......used to go up there many many years ago to 'see the sites' or go fishing. To me it looked like the Ocean. Looks cool in Cleveland when ya come up over the hill in town and all ya can see is WATER between and behind the buildings. I'm not much for the big city anymore even tho I find it EXCITEING it is too dam dangerous these days. Pan handlers demanding money or else......robbery's and car thefts or break in's.....and muggings. Used to go to this one big bar up there to see famous bands (Robin Trower,Johnny Winter,Buddy Guy) but it started to bother me when I had to walk over a few inches of glass along the building realizeing it was car window glass. The odds looked pretty good your car WOULD get broke into with all that. Course around here ya see alot of broken buggy bumpers Pam We do go to baseball games or football when we can get the tickets up in Cleveland.....dam salesman doesn't give em out like he used to. Front row seats with free dinner and drinks in the glass LOUGE.....very cool !!!! |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by Lizzie2 on Jun 15th, 2005, 12:38am LOL true true. I actually have only been to Cleveland a couple times, even though it wasn't a far travel. My dad worked in Akron, and I know he was in Cleveland quite a bit. If I'm not mistaken, it took us about a half hour to get to Sandusky from Vermilion, but it's been quite a few years now! We even went several times by boat. A friend of ours had a little speed boat, and we'd take trips over to Sandusky to go to Cedar Point or just to dockside pizza (I think it's called?) I learned to sail when we lived in Vermilion. The beach, lighthouse, and maritime museum were across the street from my house. Wish it wasn't such a far drive from Philly or I'd go back and visit more often! My childhood best friend lives in Cleveland right now with her sister and brother-in-law (and new nephew!), and her parents still all live in Vermilion. Fun place...small town, nice people. :) |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by giffy76 on Jun 15th, 2005, 7:01am I used to jump off the big dam at the swimmin hole in Hinckley, Whips Ledges I think it's called. I work in Brunswick, about 5-10 min. away |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by Missy_Donna on Jun 15th, 2005, 7:50am I know all of the places you guys are talking about. And yes, it is Whips Ledges. Man, I love this. I worked in downtown Cleveland for years, and it is a scarey place but just after 5:00 pm. I worked on 13th and Euclid, and one day I had to work past 5. When I went out, it was a different world! Two guys were fist fighting and I had to cross the street to avoid them. Winos sleeping in doorways. Gangs hanging around outside the bars. Prostitures walking the streets. I'll never forget the sound of fist hitting face. Awful. When I left our building, a bag lady was moving in for the night with her shopping cart. So sad. From then on, when I had to work late, the boss sent me home in a cab. But during the day it was pretty. We had hundreds of people walking around and many eating lunch in grassy parks. The winters were really hard there...just like Buffalo. I thought I was going to freeze to death many a time waiting for a bus in below zero weather. Couldn't drive downtown.......just no place to park. Then, in the big snowstorms, the busses wouldn't even show up. Boy I sure don't miss that stuff!! I'd never move back, but I do miss the seasons and a little snow at Christmas. WMMS rocks! Anyone remember "Big Wilson"? Cootie reminded me of the Ghoul. My last home was in Richfield.....where the Collisium was. Between Akron and Brecksville. I have friends and family in a square from Akron to south Cleveland, and from Euclid (remember Music Carnival-Theatre-in the Round?) to Elyria. This includes Brunswick and Strongsville, Lakewood, North Ridgeville, Berea, lots of towns. Some of my moms family have property at Vermillion on the Lake. Dad used to go on fishing trips with the guys to Whiskey Island . Cootie, I'll bet you remember the flats.....some cool bars down there and good bands. |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by cootie on Jun 15th, 2005, 10:48am Hey I've peuk'd in the flats.....ha-ha-ha. And yeah that place is scarey after a certain time......think it is the same in alot of cities. Noticed that in Atlantic City when me and mom took a tour bus gambling. The boardwalk was such a pleasant place with people strolling around and baby strollers and couples. After dark it was mohawks....purple hair and chains and groups of kids and teens walking around LOOKING for trouble or to rob someone. We used to go to that Whips Ledges around in Ohio and flick school to go hang out or on a weekend. Rouges Hollow was COOL in Doylestown that is supposed to be haunted......neat area. Anyone know of Nelson's Ledges ? Beautiful place......hippie capitol happenin place of the world but 'it's cool' ! We hosted a party there few years back. Place turns routy at nite......them hippie's get a lill too trippy dopey druggy wild ass fally noisey 24/7 never stopping Pam (we didn't appreciate the DRUM circle along the water till 7:00 am) We used to go to the Empire bar off E 9th and Carniegie I think it was.......had all the TOP bands/concerts come thru and play there we went to see. They had a habit of lettin too many in the door and fire marshall would come in and climb on stage and SHUT 'R DOWN !! Love somea the bars out there.......all have a beach or parrot motive and some sports cuz of the stadiums. Kinda reminds me of the beach areas down south.....fun place to bar hop and site see WITH A BIG BOUNCER BURELY DUDE and see all the cool places and there themes inside how there fixed up. But I'd NEVER wanna live there. And we get more then a LITTLE snow these days Donna in winter........more like above the top or yer car stuff. Winter sucks these days. |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by giffy76 on Jun 15th, 2005, 11:37am I stay the hell out of the big city, too many idiots, not enough bullets. I went to the flats a time or two, it's really went down hill the last few years. Give me a bar that still has pickin & grinnin night, you hillbilly folks know what I mean. |

Haha!! That it is... We don't go there really. In fact, I've never gone to the casinos there. On our trip to Ocean City, somehow on the way back to Philadelphia, Dave and I got on the AC expressway going the wrong direction...didn't realize it till we were staring dead ahead at the hotels! LOL Ocean City isn't too pleasant on the boardwalk for most people... (NJ that is) Lots and lots of high school kids, etc... One night my friend and I were on the boardwalk (several years back), and we almost got beat up because these punk kids were asking us for cigarettes. We didn't have any. They didn't believe us... Well, when we were walking back the other direction, we went out to the sidewalk on the street until we passed where we had seen them! haha Our family goes to Stone Harbor now at the shore. Quiet town. I love it there. :) Philly doesn't seem as bad as Cleveland now listening to your stories. Esp since I dont' remember Cleveland really. However, we have a lot of violence, etc. Just depends where you are. Well, really it can happen anywhere, but some places are much worse than others. Where I lived (center city, across from Jefferson Hospital/University), it was fairly safe. I wasn't far from the historic section with the liberty bell and all, and it was just about 10 blocks or so down to Penn's Landing. I walked down there all the time - although I don't really like that walk by myself. I felt fairly safe there most of the time. :) Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by cootie on Jun 16th, 2005, 12:08am Last tour buss trip to Atlantic City my bus driver fell asleep.....while driveing !!! I was in front on onea them big new bus's next to my mom.......me bein mis worry wart for the world insomniac was the only TENSE one on the bus not passed out. Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by Lizzie2 on Jun 16th, 2005, 1:23am Holy crap, Pam! That's a wild story...and one that would be quite scary! Had an interesting experience on a city bus back in mid-May. That's about as exciting as it got. But since in the ER, sometimes I saw patients from trolley/bus/subway/train accidents, the thought did cross my mind that this guy could potentially get us all hurt pretty bad! He was a maniac.... Driving thru the city, starting up before people had their footing from even stepping on the bus. He honked at everything around. Everybody on the bus was quiet until a few people started making comments. I'd walked about 17 city blocks on my own before the bus ever even showed up. I was going from about 38th street to 10th street. I was walking from my pre-op knee surgery appointment back to my apartment, so I shouldn't have even been doing that. But part of me wished I had just kept walking! haha Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by Frank_W on Jun 16th, 2005, 8:53am Cootie, you really know how to have a good time while traveling! Next convention, I'll get plane tickets to the nearest airport to you, and we can ride the Greyhound to the convention. Whaddya' say? It'll be FUN!! [smiley=laugh.gif] |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by cootie on Jun 16th, 2005, 10:05am Oh yeah Frank......I'd get to the convention lookin like a yak cat !!! Oh and hope we get that other bus driver I had once on a tour bus that was very very nice on the trip there......real chatty dude and again me and mom were in the front seats which set up ral high above the driver in the new buses. He kept wantin me to sit down next to him and keep him company the entire trip there (8 hours I think).....I didn't really wanna do that. He gabbed and told jokes and was really funny and freindly at all the stops they make on the way. But on the way HOME was a different story.......like nite and day difference. Guess he stayed up all nite gambling and had been doin back to back routes there......he was a real jerk on the way home and drove WAY TOO FAST gettin a few inches behind semi's askin them to 'get him home' ? He was yellin at people and honkin at people in the way and pissed off mad all the way home !! Really got on my nerves. Guess the drugs wore off ech ? Mr Chatty became Mr death defying Crabby Pam So much for bus tours.......friend went to Myrtle Beach with us last fall and we hauled the bike in a big trailer. She scared the shit outa me drivein 100 mph inches from other vehicles bumpers thru the mountains and zig zagging in and out of traffic. I'm not much for world travel.......took my hives a few weeks to clear up and spent my vacation on high stress alert in the red. |

Title: Re: Hey Cootie...... Post by Frank_W on Jun 16th, 2005, 10:11am I had a taxi ride in South Korea that was pretty harrowing, along with a Greyhound ride from Sacramento all the way to Bakersfield, that wasn't any picnic either, let me tell you! LMAO!! |
