I am sending my kids to a "school's out" party today.  The girl's father who is hosting this shindig has an 18' trampoline with a safty cage.  He sent out release forms for the parents to sign and return to protect himself against any suits that may be brought up should an accident or injury take place.  Of course I signed the slip, but my issue with this is that society has become such a place that it is a requirement to cover one's ass in such a way.  Makes me yearn for the good old days.  :'(

It's amazing that a guy who sends out release forms like that would ever even buy his kids a trampoline. Seems as though he should limit his kids to attach the velcro tail on the velcro donkey. Or maybe a nice game musical bean bag chairs, or what they would like to reduce everything to, old video reruns of Full House.

Surprised he didn't give the heads up that they would be serving peanut butter (different release form).

Duct-tape is the single best tool for keeping kids safe.
You can attach them to trees, furniture, lamp posts, you name it...
ok, back to my corner...

Yeah, but first, you have to wrap them in bubble wrap.  ;)  

I know, I'm over-protective and smothering. But, hey, I know where my kids are and they're safe...

Playing Devil's Advocate....Sounds more to me that the guy has been burnt before by one of his kid's friends parents. But would still like the kids to have fun.

Either that...or he's a lawyer. [smiley=huh.gif]

Construction worker actually.  Spoke with him last night.  Just trying to preserve the low rate on his homeowners insurance.  I understand his point of view.  Just makes me wonder about society in general though... :-/

6 weeks ago a boy and my son were horseing around at school and the kid dislocated my sons elbow, his parents were terrified that we would file a suit. Kids are kids and they're gonna get hurt, but I don't blame this guy for permision slips, he's just covering his butt.

Raise kids in a safety bubble and they'll be sissys.

A few years back we had a bad ice storm in east texas, there are limbs still hanging in the trees, I was fixing a fence a year or so ago and the man who lives down the road stopped when he saw me. Anyway as we were talking to me he pointed to a hanging limb and stated that if that were to fall on him, he would sue me. I told him that if that is how he felt to get off my land and not to come back on it. That way we would both feel safer. Then I painted every fence post purple.

Yeah but he'll sue you because he'll trip over the fence post in the dark because it's purple rather than white while peeping in your window.

I agree Redd... I long for the good old days also....

My son's little minipin (a 5 pound dog who thought he was a dobbie) "barked" at a neighbor, scared her, she fell and is now suing my son. And the damn insurance company is going to pay her "pain and suffering"! I told him to take mine (I have his dog's "father") to court with him and show how vicious the little mutts are! Geezzz!

And the peanut butter isn't so far fetched either. There's a kid at my grandson's preschool who's alergic to peanuts and they sent out notes that anything brought to school to eat should NOT contain any peanut ingedients.

It's a shame that everything we do, we have to figure out how it will look in court before we do it!

He ain't a lawyer. Sounds like he knows nothing about the law.
Under the law toys like trampolines are like swimming pools………they are considered an attractive nuisance. That ‘release’ form is worthless in a court of law.

Ever thought about emigrating, i wouldnt want to live in a society like that. I feel really sorry for all of you, living in a place like that, sue this, sue that, OMG, get real.

Before marriage, everyone should be required to sign a release form stating that there shall be no law-suites against either party when the marriage is dissolved.  

King Henry the 8th had the right idea about getting around all that leagal stuff.   I dont think the gals would be so anxious today if the bottom line was a quick be-heading for hounding hubby!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the other hand,  what ever happened to Lorania Bobbett????
